Every student loves the sound of the bell ringing at the end of the school day. Who decides how long you have to wait for the last bell? Who decides when you go back to school from your fun summer break? Why can’t we just have the bare minimum? Were about to find out.
The state set education guidelines that each student is required to meet, and eight hours is what Steele high school believes is the right amount of time needed to reach the standards. The individual school districts and school boards decide the length of a school day, as there is no state regulation as to how long the day must be.
While it would affect students, it would mainly serve as a way to close the achievement gap between students by allowing teachers to talk to each other about students they share. That way they wouldn’t have to wait until after school, when teachers may be tired or in a rush.

In Asia its 210 days and in China there are 230 days, In the United states, students spend about 75 percent of the time European students study.
Overall, I think school should be longer but with fewer days, eight hours just seems like way too long to be in school, by sixth period your brain has shut down and you’re tired and ready to go
A lot of parents are shaking their heads at the consideration of a four-day school week, and a longer school day. Shorter school weeks or longer school days are reasonable solutions when there is a shortage of funding, or possible budget cuts coming to the school district. This solution has many mixed opinions from parents, teachers and school board members.
There were exactly 83 days that Brick Memorial High School gave its children to use for whatever they wanted. We were able to be young and dumb (to a degree) with no repercussions or scoldings from adult authorities. I would say that the majority of kids spent all 24 hours of their days doing what makes them happy; staying out late for parties and waking up early to see the sunrise are a couple of things that my friends and I did over this past summer and look forward to doing next as well.
Hillary Scott 1/19/16 3rd hour Year Round School Did you know that 3,000 schools in the United States have year round schools? Year round schools in the United States enroll more than 2 million students each year. Year round school is a school that has no summer break, therefore students attend school for a complete year with breaks in between. More school districts should switch to a year round school calendar because of the great benefits it provides such as, keeping children engaged, less time spent reteaching, and it saves money. Year round school helps school districts save money by a multi track calendar, occupying schools, and more space for students.
As a way to minimize summer learning loss, the reorganization of the traditional school calendar in the year-round education system replaces long summer vacations with several smaller breaks throughout the year (Raisch, 2008). In year-round education policies, the schools are set on a school plan and track system. This maximizes the use of school facilities by dividing the school attendance days into rotating instruction and vacation segments. According to Chittom and Klassen (2014), “The plan determines the number of consecutive days students attend school and also dictates the break schedule.” In the year-round school calendar, the 45-15 plan, the 60-20 plan, and the 90-30 plan are the most common. For example, students on a 45-15 plan would
Have you ever thought about what school would be like without the long awaited summer break that comes with the end of each school year? If so, you might be thinking, what would I do with the extra time? Or how would we ever get a chance for a vacation? Is it going to be too overwhelming for my child? But the biggest factor of all, how would the children take this news? It is a great debate amongst many parents and school districts right now. Should we keep the traditional education methods? Or should society as a whole put this to the past and try a new approach to the way we educate our children: Year-round schooling.
The first session will be forty three days on with thirteen days off. The second will be forty five days on with eleven days off. The third will be forty nine days on with nine days off. The fourth will be forty three days with thirteen days off. Every four years there will be a longer break using the extra 56 days not used during the past years. This lets kids experience both types of schooling. During the school years kids, teachers, and staff will be interviewed on their opinion of the scheduling that year. Kids will be tested on intelligence while teachers will be tested on the convenience of when they taught. If their lessons were easier or harder during what part of the year and each year. The information can be analyzed to determine which type of schooling is the most effective.
The average school period is one hundred and eighty days with small breaks in between and a three-month break during summer to ease students’ minds and let them relax. The Board of Education should make all schools in the United States year-round to increase educational time and decrease the loss of knowledge over the breaks. It gives students the same time to relax and plan family vacations periodically throughout the year, but never creates the stress of changing sleep schedules that summer break changes. Not only is it a good way to enhance education, but it also is better for planning family events, positive effects on budget, academic achievement, and could decrease the absence rate of students.
The school day should be shorter because students could get more sleep, they would have more time in the afternoon, and they could focus more on each class. A shorter school day will also benefit the students so they can have much more time to different activities as well.
why I might support this idea would be, because this might help us focus on our studies more.
Tuesdays and Thursdays ended at 2:05. By increasing the amount of school hours students stayed in school for an extra hour three days out of the whole week. One victim of this stated “The extra hours of school has made me tired. Especially the final hour of school. The end of school was already tiring since it was after lunch, but now it just is not possible to focus.” Another student said, “With the extra hour of school there are more classes everyday, which means more homework and less time. There is no time for other activities too because of the hours.” This can be detrimental, in a number of
One of the most heated debates in the U.S is probably that our school hours need to be longer, now this may or may not help our country some say yes some say no. Most people are on the no side because, if we have a longer year kids will have more stress which would HURT us academically. Also, people deserve to be with their families during the summer and extra school would make kids more stressed and wouldn’t help the kids academically. Also, having a longer school year does not help us industrially, as in camps. Kids deserve their summers and if we have a longer school year it will HURT our country academically.
Longer classes will stress out students who already dislike school! The stress will cause many students to freak out. If I remember correctly, teachers already spend more time at school than students, this time extension will make the adults stay at school until about five o'clock! One more thought is, What if a student has an activity after school that they do, for an example, my sister has choir and GA’s at church on Wednesday around five o’clock. If my sister had school until 4:30 she would not have much time to get homework done, eat dinner, prepare to leave, and get there in time! It is like asking to make her late to her activities that she
Also, we are at school for eight hours. In eight hours you have spent at the school, you should be able to get enough work done. We are at school five out of seven days a week. Schools start to early and end later than they should. For eight hours we have to listen to rules, that do not make sense. The point is we are in school for eight hours, for five days a week! A way they could fix this is, starting school at nine and ending it at two-thirty.
Did you know that in some states, school lasts from dusk till dawn? People have different points of view on the length of the school day in America. Some people think that the school day should be longer to improve academic levels for students. The United States "lags behind other countries in core subjects. In 2015, American students came in 24th in reading, 25th in science, and 41st in math out of 72 countries." (p 30). Because the U.S. is behind, many experts believe that students should have an additional 90 minutes of school. The school day should be longer for many different reasons.
Schools today are focusing on improving their students’ academic performance. Each school district has their own calendar schedule which they believe is the best schedule for their students and community. There are a variety of school schedules including traditional public schools, year-round education, and four-day school weeks. School districts across America cannot compromise on an optimal schedule.
