The state according the 2014 census estimates is one of the largest in the United States with 26.9 million people, of which 20.6 million (working population) are 16 years and over. As a general rule, the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) sets 14 years of age as the minimum age for employment, and limits the number of hours worked by minors under the age of 16. The U.S 2014 census estimates also shows that Texas population has been dominating by Whites (80.0%) over Black or African American (12.5%); American Indian and Alaska Native (1.0%); Asian (4.5%); Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander (0.1%); other (13.3%); and Hispanic or Latino (38.6%). The percentage of foreign born persons living in Texas in 2014 now hovered around 16.8 percent (4.5 million), of which 70 percent from Latin America and 20 percent from Asia. One of the partial reasons why Texas dominating racial discrimination is because of the size of its population. It also shows that Texas growing diverse population has constitute changes in the state economy and ongoing evolution of its political culture. 3.7.2 Texas Political Culture The Texas Political Culture are segmented into three (3) three political subcultures Individualistic Moralistic and Traditionalistic. Individualistic Texas subculture relies on the marketplace as the Government 's role is limited primarily to keep the marketplace functioning by motives, materials, tangibles and advancing themselves professionally (Elazar, 2000). Their
The people of Texas are diverse and carry their “big can-do attitudes and accents” (Pearson); making Texas a bigger than life state. The political culture of Texas is impacted by two different subgroups of
Texas can begin to respond to it’s ever-growing population by expanding its infrastructure. In essence, building more roads/ bridges and efficiently organizing new pipelines and electrical grids. In the past, Texas has been recognized to embrace more of an individualistic political culture. However, in southern Texas, traditionalistic political culture is dominant. Having these two different political cultures will make it difficult for any progress towards the increasing demands because they represent different ideas. The individualists culture believes the government should make advances in society while having little intervention with the public. Traditionalistic culture believes the government should focus on maintaining the status quo
Immigration is increasing in Texas. People from different countries such as Mexico, china, India, Bangladesh and so on are migrating in Texas. They belong from different caste, religion, cultures. Majority of immigrants is from Mexico in Texas. As Texas is the border of Mexico there are numerous Latino people in Texas. My district has
A political culture is mainly referred to as the shared values and beliefs of the citizens on the topic of political and economic life that reflects the fundamental assumptions about how government should operate and function as a society. Although the people share the framework of values, beliefs, and habits of behavior related to government and politics, the reference as to how the judging is to be viewed is how the relationship is between the government and the people, obligations to the government, limits on government authority, and the rights and responsibility to the people. A political subculture can change over time given that Texas has a political context of big, and the diversity in Texas it is possible for Texas to be able to contain
The historical backdrop of political gatherings in Texas starts after the Civil War, with 10 years of Reconstruction-period government keep running by Republicans speaking to Northern interests. When Reconstruction finished, Texas got to be what was, in every practical sense, a one-party state ruled by Democrats. This time of Democratic govern kept going a century, just continuously unwinding in the 1970s after the social liberties development. The Civil War and the social liberties development can along these lines be comprehended as the two hastening occasions for the real changes in Texas gathering structure. Today the Republican Party controls the majority of Texas' open workplaces. In spite of its present strength, Republicans have turned
The Texas population consists of people with a variety of different cultural and racial background. The Texas population seems to be very young with an approximate 27.3 percent of the population being under the age of 18, and about 11.5 percent being over the age of 65 (U.S. Census Bureau, “Texas.”). Factors that increase the Texas population include higher birthrates, lower death rates, as well as immigration from other countries and states. The population is changing from a primarily white population as recorded during the 1990s to a projected primarily Latino population by 2050. However, Latinos were not a considered a separate ethnic group until the 1990s but were counted to the white population which consisted of European whites and the Latinos. The African- American population decreased from over 20 percent during the 1850s to below 20 percent population as of 2015. Asian- Americans are considered the smallest population in Texas at 4.5 percent (The Asian Population,” 2010 Census Briefs). Due to the changing economy and
Texas political culture is one that can be described as a combination of three main ideas: individualistic, traditionalism and moralism. Considering Texas and its overwhelming 254 counties we can see these main ideas undoubtedly. The 254 counties each have their own general set of ideas, attitudes and beliefs. The whole state of Texas is simply not just considered individualistic, traditionalism, or moralism, it is considered all three. Individualistic, traditionalism and moralism are all strong values that coexist in our society and they all affect how we as the people live our lives. A political culture shapes a region’s politics.
Political culture is complex even in a place like Texas where there is a broad consensus about core values and ideals. Despite numerous constitutions and national flags, the changing fortunes of political parties, and the almost complete transformation of the economy, the state's political culture displays a remarkable continuity. The dominant political culture's particular combination of economic liberalism (faith in the "free market" economy), social conservatism (favoring traditional values and moralism), and populism (promoting the rights and worthiness of ordinary people) has proven quite resilient over many decades and even centuries. These ideological tendencies are expressed in a dominant political culture that tends to favor low taxes, low government services, and pro-business policies, while at the same time reserving a significant respect (at least in the abstract) for popular control of government.
The population in Texas has changed since the past years around the 1850s to now. The population in Texas should be only for Anglo and African Americans, but Hispanics had come to change the percentages of the population in Texas in a tremendous difference. The percentages on the old years were kind of low. But now, it has increase and increase has the years have passed. What are the political implications of these trends?
The majority of residents in Texas are Mexicans. Mexican Americans are not the minority in the state anymore. Discrimination occurs in many hidden ways. We have come a long way and diversity is practiced throughout the work place. It will continue as long as society continues to compare ethnic groups. Yes we are all different, and we should be proud of who we are, but aren't we all human? Redlining used to happen and is still happening. "Mexicans will not be able to purchase their own house much less, be the owner of a new vehicle." These types of comments are patterns of discrimination that Mexican Americans have faced at one time or another.
For years to decades’ immigrations has been an issue and maybe in some way a solution to big business gain. Is a real way to fix it or find a balance? It has been and will always be an ongoing subject with politics to come. Since the 1800s Texas borders has had a large population of undocumented immigrants. Though in the current century it does not have the high population with undocumented immigrant now, it is a targeted border for migration.
The Hispanic population has seen the greatest increase and makes up approximately 36 percent of the state’s population.
Texas has a reputation throughout history of differing views from the federal government in laws and politics pertaining to social, fiscal, and educational issues. On the whole, Texas operates as a largely conservative state. Because of this, policy-making is often right wing. With the institution of a Democratic, liberal president, the State’s dissent from the Federal government has only increased over certain issues. One hot topic of the 2012 Presidential election was immigration. With the major increase in immigration, it is no surprise that the issue was so emphasized. Between 2000 and 2011 there was a 30 percent
The History of Texas Texas history itself had its own amazing story. The small number of American settlers moved to the land of Texas had led to the dramatic war with the Mexicans. The land of Texas was used to be owned by Mexicans. Due to the argument between Texans and Mexicans caused the battle of San Jacinto and Mexican War. In long ago before American settlers moved to Texas, this place was so rich and an abundance of land.
As of February 2016, Texas unemployment rate had fell 0.1 percentage points to 4.4 percent (1) according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). There were 1,011,882 people unemployed in Texas in Septemeber 2009, but now is 436,912 fewer people unemployed. Although the economy is adding more jobs but the unemployment rate is still a problem in Texas. The reason that Texas had higher unemployment rate than the other state because Texas had the most immigrant. The unemployment rate in Texas of African American is 11.4 percent, which “has been well over twice the white rate for much of the last five years” (Gable 2). Also, Hispanic is 7 percent, which is much more than the white unemployment rate of 4.3 percent. The closing down companies and
