Most schools today start earlier than they used to. This is not a good thing because it has many negative effects on the students and the teachers. Students are having to wake up at times that are unhealthy for them. They are not getting enough sleep because their schools are making them wake up early, and the ones that are getting enough sleep are getting to school late. Schools should do what’s best for the students and that is to start school at a later time in the morning. To begin with, students would be more rested and prepared in the morning if schools were to start later. It does not take a genius to know that a student that is well rested will work better than one that is tired and drowsy. A student that is well rested will learn better and more efficiently. Students are not getting enough sleep because of how early schools start. Schools are starting so early that most kids are not getting the recommended hours of sleep, which are 8.5 to 9.5 hours. They can have more time in the morning to do what they need to do and then go to school. Students would not have to rush to school to try and beat the tardy bell. Kids would miss less days of school and absences in school would drop by a great amount. Many school and people may say that we should not start school later because it cost too much to make it happen, but if you look at it in the long run, schools would actually save money. “Megan Reilly, chief financial officer for the Los Angeles Unified School District has estimated that boosting attendance by just 1% would bring in an additional 40 million dollars per year.” (Lewis) This means that schools would not only have students missing less school if they started later but they would also bring in a lot more money than they would if they started
Schools all around the nation have starting times for school, that are too early for the students and teachers alike. Schools starting times should be 8:30 in the morning or later, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. Sleep loss has become more common in children due to early start times which only gives them 6-7 hours of sleep a night when growing children should have 8-9 hours a night. children suffer the chronic loss of sleep due to the hormonal roller coaster that you call puberty, which only lets them begin to go into a REM sleep around 10 p.m. . It’s also been proven that adolescent children suffer from highers risks of physical health problems, mental health problems, lower test scores, missing school, substance abuse, and being in a car crash due to sleep deprivation. Students end up having to get up before 6:30 to get ready and catch the bus or walk to school, but when you have to study for hours after school, eat, clean up, participate in extracurricular activities, including sports and clubs, and do chores in less than 4 hours to get the sleep they require to be healthy mentally and physically it’s almost impossible. School should start later to better our future generations, with more sleep we could have more positive members of societies.
First of all, kids will be more energized and be more academically advanced if school starts are pushed back. They also have a lower risk of being in car accidents and have fewer health problems such as depression, mood changes, and being overweight.” Many schools start before 7:45 a.m. and have tired students not putting forth their best efforts while 40 percent of American High Schools start classes past 8 a.m. The schools with later starts
Anyone who knows me knows that I am not an early riser and don’t like to get up early. When I get up early I am very slow and sluggish, which then sometimes causes me to rush and get stressed or even sometimes missing the bus. So wouldn’t having later school start times solve all of this? Schools should shift their start times to later in the day because getting more sleep improves performance and test scores, kid’s brains aren’t always awake and ready to work so early in the morning, and lack of sleep can be dangerous when driving.
For one, making school begin later is improving dropout rates; it’s also reducing tardiness. I can see how starting school later can improve these. I know that sometimes I wish school started later because getting up early isn’t very fun. I also understand how kids just don’t want to go, which causes tardiness. Maybe people just finally have had enough. School starting later also shows a significant improvement in the work, effort, and grades of students. If a child doesn’t get enough sleep, they
Students are not getting enough sleep. There is either homework or after school activities keeping kids from getting the right amount of sleep they need. The author states that, most kids are going to bed at 10 p.m. or later on school nights, even though they have to get up early the next day. Greg wakes up thinking that he will get to school on time but soon finds out he pressed snooze one too many times. He wakes up at 6:38 and only has 12 minutes to get ready and make his way to the bus stop, already in a bad mood he quickly gets ready feeling groggy and not well rested. When he gets to school he can’t properly focus and only has sleep on his mind. Gregs gets sent to the office for sleeping, which he has no control over. He makes his way throughout the day in a bad mood collecting his work but doesn't completes and gets it assigned as homework. When greg gets home he goes straight to sleep and still doesn't complete his homework because he's so tired. This is the reality of many american teenagers who don’t get enough sleep because of how early schools starts.
Everyone has at least experienced what it’s like getting up early in morning and getting ready for school or has at least heard about how awful it is dragging yourself out of bed. It gets mentally exhausting especially if you do it for five days out of every week. Some kids don’t get to go to bed till late because some do sports and some nights they have late games which just makes it more exhausting for kids. This is why schools should start later in the morning, it will give the kids more time to get their healthy sleeping hours so they are not sleep deprived and unhappy.
If school were to start later the children would get more sleep which would improve their overall health, and it would also improve their school performance, so it is for these reasons that one can claim that it would be more beneficial to go to school later on in the day. To case a point on how later school would be beneficial to students because it improves their health is when the article “Support For Sleeping In? Half of Parents Favor Later School Start Times For Teens” by Mental Health Weekly Digest says “More schools across the country are exploring delayed school start times as research shows benefits for adolescents' physical and mental health, including reduced risks of obesity and depression.” In short, this quote is showing that later school times are showing improving physical and mental health.

If we were to start school later, academic GPA’s (grade point averages) would definately increase. Isn’t this what we want in our school? It is proven that the more sleep you get, the more awake and alert you actually are. I interviewed Michael Claffey, a sophomore at Newington High School, he stated “ Goooooud.” Also Jorge Premto a sophomore at Newington High School stated “Yes Michael, yes I do believe school should start at nine o’clock am. This will thus help further my education because I will be well rested.” In all, we need school to start later because it will help us with our education.
Waking up early is a challenge for some students. This is mainly because of huge workloads and getting ready for the school day ahead of them. Students need to rest or they will not have any good grades in school. This is the same thing for teachers. They have to grade hundreds of student’s tests. That would take a lot of time and make them tired for the school day ahead of them. If school started earlier than students and teachers would have time to rest more and be energized for the school day leading to

According to Marie Anderson from Demand Media a 2001 study showed that school administrators cited extracurricular activities as a major reason
“Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise” said Benjamin Franklin. Then again, going to bed early is not always an easy thing for teenagers. A lot of middle and high schools make their students come to school as early as 6:30 am despite the fact that most teenagers go to bed at 11:00 pm. With that schedule, students aren’t getting a full nights rest which is why schools should start later in the day.
Students hate waking up early in the morning, especially when it’s waking up for school. Many students earn tarties because they over sleep or don’t get enough sleep. It is scientifically proven that a student’s brain doesn’t fully function until 10:00 am. It is also a proven fact that students need around 9.5 hours of sleep. School starting later in the day would help with tarties, skipping, and sleeping in the classroom.
