Michael Jordan, or as the sports world calls him “MJ”, is the greatest NBA player of all-time, including legend-in-the-making LeBron James. Even though they are both excellent athletes, Jordan stands out on and off the court. Jordan exudes a greater drive for success. Michael Jordan is a better defender overall. His teammates weren’t as fundamentally sound as Lebron’s, meaning Jordan had to work even harder for his championships. Jordan is the best basketball player in history. In addition to his physical game, his mental game is equally or even stronger. To win at a high level, you have to have not only athleticism, but a winning mindset. Lebron had five hall-of-famers on his team, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Ray Allen, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Love. Michael Jordan only had two hall-of-famers, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman. MJ had to carry his team in the playoffs. “Through his three Game 7s, Jordan averaged 33.7 points” (Favale). Lebron could not even compete with Michael Jordan’s stats. Michael didn’t have an all-star center or an all-star point guard, so he was facilitating and rebounding the ball more for his team. On the other hand, Lebron had an all star point guard when in Cleveland, Kyrie Irving. Chris Bosh was an all star center when Lebron was in Miami. This goes to show if you have the talent, then you won’t need to rely on other players to achieve success. Michael Jordan said, “Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen” (Jordan). Jordan means that other people wait for greatness and rely on their teammates to make them look better. Michael Jordan had no one to rely on but himself. Jordan is better than Lebron because he worked hard and didn’t depend on anyone else to make his own success for himself. Generally speaking, Michael Jordan is an overall better player than Lebron James. Michael Jordan shows a greater drive for success, a distinguished defense, and adaptability to his teammates around him. Lebron James is not an awful player.
