Michael Jeffery Jordan, also known by his initials, MJ, was born on February 17th of 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. While he was still young, he and his family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina. Ever since Jordan was young, he had a love for sports.

Michael Jeffrey Jordan and Shaquille Rashaun O’neal were two great basketball stars that changed the name of the game forever. Jordan came from a large city in upstate New York where his parents “fared well financially with incomes from their jobs and James’s Air Force pension” (Porter 2). O’neal came from the largest New Jersey city where his mother gave birth to him at the age of eighteen and went on welfare (Nelson 2). Both of these young men left a legacy in the basketball world but from two very different aspects.

First, Michael played college basketball at UNC for three years before going to the NBA. He won the NCAA championship in 1982. On the other hand, Kobe went straight from high school to the NBA. Next, Jordan was drafted 3rd overall by the Chicago Bulls, while Bryant was drafted 13th overall by the Charlotte Hornets. He was traded to the LA Lakers shortly after.

Kobe bryant was such a inspiration for me. So many people loved basketball but as soon as kobe hit the court, It was such a different era. Basketball became more competitive and more fun to watch. Kobe bryant even held open his own foundation to help kids in need, almost everyone looked up to him almost no one on any basketball team hated kobe. Some basketball players even looked up to him.

This is the reason he won 5 championships, 1 league MVP, and was on the all NBA first team 11 times. He was so good, and so successful because he always worked hard and demanded his teammates to work as hard as he did. Some teammates resented him for it, while others gained from it and became better. The hard working nature of Kobe Bryant is why he is my hero, he inspires me to work hard in all facets of my life, and to become a better person.

Throughout history, Michael Jordan has proven that he is one of the greatest basketball players of all time. However, in 1996 when Kobe Bryant began playing for the Los Angeles, Lakers , Jordan’s status of the greatest player of all time was questioned. Kobe's amazing skills began to get close to Michael Jordan’s, but statistics still showed that Michael Jordan’s skills were still more advanced. Both players have shown their strengths but also their weaknesses for example Jordan is tougher to guard but doesn't score as many points as Kobe. Kobe is great shooter but isn’t efficient at scoring. We’ve seen their high and low points but Michael Jordan has remained on top.

Competition is what brings individuals together deciding who the best in the event is; one of the most fierce and competitive events in America is basketball. The official league in America for basketball is called National Basketball Association (NBA) which only drafts the best basketball players in the world; there have been many players in the NBA, but none other like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant who are future Hall of Famers. The perseverance of Kobe substantially overcomes LeBron James’s work ethic, leading Kobe to become the best basketball player of all-time. Titling an individual “The Greatest of All-Time” signifies the best basketball player and role model, which Kobe Bryant achieved over LeBron James from a dedicated work ethic, valuable awards, and a courageous attitude on the court with the motivation of winning. Deciding if LeBron James or Kobe Bryant is better, is hard to interpret considering both men have vast achievements from their basketball careers.

There are many more components that determine the greatness of a player than awards; such as assists, game points, and rebounds. Initially born in Brooklyn, Michael Jordan grew up in the state of North Carolina. His inspiration to being playing basketball began with his athletic brother, Larry. Originally, being a small sophomore, Jordan was cut from his high school team in the small city of Wilmington. After sprouting to 6 foot 3 inches, Jordan started at the University of North Carolina.

Lebron James and Kobe Bryant are two of the most explosive players in the NBA today. Each player has his own playing style that separates him from the rest of the league. Both players have their own career achievements, endorsements, and personal life stories behind the game. If you ask anybody, the comparison between these two players is great. It is a never ending debate between who is better because both players have something different to bring to the table. Side by side on paper, both players seem dominant and may one day end up in the basketball hall of fame. But as individuals, side by side, each has a different but similar life.
