“They grew up on the outside of society. They weren’t looking for a fight. They were looking to belong.” The Outsiders is a book written by S.E. Hinton about Ponyboy’s life as a greaser. He is in a gang and his gang goes through life together. In this book, many things change and happen. Some of those changes were good, but most were bad. Why is The Outsiders still relevant 57 years later? Although The Outsiders was written fifty-seven years ago, it is still relevant today for many relatable topics including change, friendship, and loyalty. Friendship is important, it's a necessity in everyone's life. All of the seven greasers are best friends and practically brothers. Today, friendship is one of the most important aspects in a kid's life. …show more content…
The gang all grew up together and are practically brothers. The Greasers experience everything together because they are all that each other has. They all might have a big age gap or have different personalities, but that doesn’t matter. That doesn’t matter for friendship. All that matters is if they are loyal, accepting, and connected. They are all connected and won’t be unconnected, no matter what happens. Even if someone ends up dead. All of the Greasers have an amazing bond and it's because of their loyalty and brotherhood toward each other. We all have amazing friendships, just like in The Outsiders. It isn’t a real friendship if you aren’t loyal to each other. In the book, their loyalty is tested many times. For example, Dally, when he was the only person who knew about Johnny and Ponyboy killing Bob, “The fuzz won’t be looking for y’all around here. I told them you went out to Texas.” (Hinton 88) Dally lied to police just to protect his friends, even though it is a crime. Another example was Mr. and Mrs. Curtis’ death. Ponyboy and Soda had to stay out of trouble just so they could stay with Darry. Pony may hate Dally, and Steve might hate Ponyboy, but they would still do anything for each other and are
“Us Greasers usually stick together but when we do fight among ourselves it’s fair.” This shows that the Greasers stick together with their Gang and support each other . Another way they support each other is when Johnny killed Bob, Johnny killed bob to save Pony even though he knew killing him would have consequences. Same with Dally when he risked his life to help Pony and Johnny after Johnny had killed Bob, Dally gave Johnny and Pony a gun and some money out of his pocket.
The Outsiders describes a gang conflict between the Socs (rich kids) and the Greasers, the poorer people on earth. The novel is about two weeks in a life of a fourteen year old boy. The novel tells the story of Ponyboy and his brawls with life.
You can’t run away or give up on your problems because they will always follow you. The greasers never give up. The Outsiders is a book where it is mainly about a boy named ponyboy who has a pretty crazy life with some crazy people in it. People always look at the Greasers as a cold blooded Group, but really they also have feelings that can get hurt. They are not all they seem to be.
Greasers and socs are very different types of people. But, even though greasers don't live in the best area or don’t dress the best they still have a rock solid family. It doesn't matter if something happened to their parents their friends form an even stronger bond than their parents. Although Greasers are very rough and sometimes unkind to each other but they still love and watch out for each other.
They show many ways of loyalty they’re there for each other no matter what. From the begging to end they were there when Johnny, Dally, and Ponyboy were in the hospital. However Dally was loyal to Ponyboy and Johnny because he wouldn’t tell Sodapop or Darry where they were no matter what. Dally gave them money and a place to run off till things died down. The Greasers are loyal to eachother because they share the similar backrounds so they relate to each other
They are equivalent to a family, and have to stick together. Even if cherry is a west side soc she still wanted to help because she felt sorry. Greasers aren't supposed to cry even though they have so many feelings. Ponyboy and Johnny miss the gang and the gang misses them. In the book it states “"We're all cried out now.
The Outsiders is a novel written by S.E. Hinton. The Outsiders has a lot of violence and adventure. This novel is about two gangs in rural Oklahoma, The Greasers and The Socials also known as the Soc’s. The Greasers and The Soc’s hate each other. These two gangs don’t like eachother because they don’t understand each other.
They don't have that deep bond that the greasers have. Like I mentioned earlier, they only hang out with each other because they don't want to be seen with people like the greasers. "We couldn't let our parents see us with you all."(46) is a line said by Cherry to Ponyboy before she gets in her boyfriend's car. The Socs want to maintain their reputation, and if being fake friends with someone means that, they'll do it. Some of the things the greaser boys do for each other stand out more than others. Dally and Ponyboy helping Johnny cover up the murder and escape is one of those moments. Dally risks being arrested again and Ponyboy risks his decent record."There's an old abandoned church on top of jay Mountain. There´s a pump in back, so don't worry about water. Buy a week´s supply of food as soon as you get there this morning, before the story gets out, and then don't so much as stick your noses out the door. I´ll be up there as soon as I think its clear, "(61) quoted by Dally. The ultimate act of selflessness is when Dally jumps in to the burning church to save Ponyboy and Johnny, not even thinking about his own life being put at risk.
The Greasers are poor people from the Socs or the Middle Class and they are wild people. In this book I would choose Darry as the friend I would have in the book. I would choose Darry because he is strong and caring. I think Darry would be a good friend because he is strong. If he's strong he could defend me when I'm in trouble or when people bullies me in school.
The Greasers go to extreme lengths to help and protect their friends. When Johnny killed Bob to save Pony-Boys life it was an instinct that Johnny had. He said “They were drowning you pony, I had no choice.” Johnny saw that his friend was in trouble so on instinct his priority was to save Pony-Boy which meant killing Bob, but he did it anyway to save Pony’s life. This shows us that Johnny cares so much about Pony-Boy that he would do anything to save him even if it meant murdering someone and possibly going to jail. When Pony, Johnny and Dally went back to the church and saw that there was a fire Pony felt responsible so he went to rescue the kids then Johnny went after Pony-Boy when Pony-Boy was out and was waiting for Johnny to come out the church the roof collapsed on him and Dally went in to save Johnny even though it meant risking his life. Both of these examples show the theme of friendship. This theme was important because friends will do anything to help each other and be there for each other, and tell each other everything and anything. Friends will always be there to the end. S.E Hinton was
The Greaser have one of the most difficult life out there. Here are some reasons why. They are struggling in life and they don’t really have any money. They just have each other and always getting in fights. Also two of their friends are died and they were still dealing with that. The Greaser had it hard because lots of bad things were going on at once.On the other hand the Socs had it hard because their parents expect them to do many things they don’t want to.Tons of people have a tough life but many people believe that the Greaser had it way more tougher than the Socs.
Have you ever been on a boat and it started to rock and you were scared to disbelief? Well, that’s how the greasers lived their lives. One big boat that wouldn’t stop rocking. Ponyboy, Dally, and Sodapop all enhance the family relationships by understanding each other more and keeping the greaser family from falling apart. The reason for this is that the greasers help each other through hardships.
But after joining these gangs, they finally experience what it’s like to have money. Ultimately, the Greasers are full of children that face problems regarding their
Greasers, just like the socs, have a strong, brave, tough and mean person, named Dally and he also had hard times too. Maybe the way each gang express their feelings and how they understand the world and people, are different from one another. Maybe it's how they were raised up. Whatever the reason is, the socs and the greasers should not hate but accept each other, simply because they are the same. They have good times, live, breathe the same air, has things to love and also have conflicts.
Through Ponyboy's story about his greaser life, the reader was able to see the high amount of loyalty that went on in the gang. The Greasers lookout for each other no matter the circumstances even if it involves having to kill someone. A very good example of inner loyalty was when Johnny and Ponyboy were getting jumped by the Socs. "'I had to. They were drowning you Pony. They might have killed you. And they had a blade... They were gonna beat me up.'" ( Chapter 4, Hinton)
