Everybody lies, and some people believe that lying is okay, but 52% of americans ,according to a new Associated Press- ipsos poll, say that lying, overall was never justified (NBCNEWS,2006). People say lying is a necessary part of our life but in reality, lying is unnecessary. In other words, people think it is not okay to lie.
One point it is not okay to lie is, that lying will cause many problems and one is you will lose other people's´ trust. According to Randy Cohen ,a ethics columnist, every lie has a cost and one big cost is you lose other people´s trust (NBCNEWS,2006). In the 1800’s being called a liar can cause the individual to lose their dignity (Sissela Bok).
Another point that lying is unnecessary is because it is slowly hurting
I agree with the fact that lying is NOT okay. BUT, its also okay in certain situations. Most adults lie to their children about multiple things such as: believing there is a Santa, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, etc. Some adults Some children think what they are being told is true
Lying is known as a bad thing, but sometimes it can be used for good. Dishonesty just depends on how you utilize it. In the story, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain you will see lying happening very often. When Huckleberry Finn lies it is usually for a good purpose. While the king and duke use it for more greedy reasons.
Almost everybody can agree that lying is wrong, but are there any circumstances that make lying okay? In the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, a young boy in the 1840s runs away from home, and floats down the Mississippi River with a runaway slave named Jim. The two undertake a series of adventures meeting lots of new people along the way. Much of the story is developed through the elaborate lies told by Huckleberry, which both shape him as a character and make the reader feel a deeper connection to him. In contrast, the Duke and The King are con artists who take advantage of people to steal their hard earned money for their personal benefit.
I feel that telling lies is not acceptable for the following reasons. Lying is not the right thing to do in a bad situation. If someone is talking behind your back, you would want someone to tell you what they are saying. If that person lies to you, you think of a different perspective then of what the situation actually is. If you confront the person who’s talking behind your back and it turns out to be a different story, the situation is going to get worse because that person who told you about the
William Shakespeare once said, “God hath given you one face, and you make yourself another.” Lying is without a doubt never justifiable because lying can lead into even greater conflicts that might never be resolved additionally lying would ruin someone’s reputation; one might argue that lying can be justifiable under one circumstance which is that lying can protect people from danger; however, lying can make someone lose people’s trust.
Lying can be described as the act of telling an untruth, but just when is it ok to lie? In the articles, “It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying,” from Life on NBCNEWS.com, and “Brad Blanton: Honestly, Tell the Truth,” by Barbara Ballinger, it provides evidence that leads me to believe that lying is acceptable when you do it to protect a relationship or someone from a life or death situation.
Lying: it’s something everyone is guilty of. Whether they be big or small, lies are everywhere. We live in a society full of lies, so we take the consequences of lying with a grain of salt. There’s no doubt about it; lying can be dangerous. Therefore, we should be more wary of our lies and their consequences. Lies can be detrimental and do have the potential to change society for the worse.
The majority of people think lying is inherently wrong, and it is only justified in cases of significant benefit. Fear, manipulation and pride are the three main reasons people choose to lie. Some of the harsher lies are
Once people know that a person habitually lies, they do not take that person as seriously. Being honest demonstrates self-respect and respect for others. Honesty is appealing and engaging to others. Honesty also sets a good example for people who look up to that person. People will become closer and have faith in an authentic person. An honest person invites authentic and real friendships. Imagine if a friend overhears a lie told by another peer, it is possible that it could damage the relationship. It can be difficult to regain their trust once they are aware of the regular lying. People frequently tell lies to bypass sharing truths that feel uncomfortable or awkward. Lying should be avoided because it is important to share true judgment and care for others. Lying typically ruins relationships whether they are personal or work-related. It is clear that lying creates skepticism and disbelief. Most people will stop asking liars for advice on personal issues because they know they will not get truthful information. Friendships are often broken because of lies that get too big to keep lying about. Lying hides who people really are. People should try to keep a clean slate by staying honest, especially when there are consequences. Lying gets rid of credibility, yet people seem to lie more
The controversy over the topic of whether lying is sometimes, always, or never justified is complete nonsense. To say it is always or never acceptable would mean you’re not thinking about the situations in which we lie thoroughly. Simply put, lying can be sometimes acceptable when it brings good intentions.
As a general articulation, there is very little contention that would emerge when one expresses that lying is wrong. However, when proffered theoretical circumstances start to crawl further into different circumstances, people will start to dodge and legitimize why lying would be satisfactory in specific circumstances.
Lying is certainly appropriate in some situations. People lie all the time. I find it necessary to lie all the time. I lie about my age. I lie to girls about how successful I am. I lie on my job applications. When an application asks if I have ever been convicted of a felony I always check no. I find that most people do not even do a background check. Maybe some employers don’t care because who doesn’t have a past history of doing something they feel bad about or regret.
Next, another reason why lying is sometimes okay , is that it depends on the situation. An example is , it is sometimes okay to exaggerate a story to make it more interesting. A support is that four in 10 people said it was okay to lie. My source is
Basically, lying is not a good thing to do, but it do not always need to be like that. Judging on something that right or wrong should base on that it is benefit anybody or bother anyone or not. Some people know as “White lie” and “Black lie”. We can state that lying would be the right thing, in case that it benefits to somebody and not bothers others at all. But if not, it can be consider as it is wrong.
Lots of people lie, but when is it actually justified to lie and when is it not justified? In four articles each author shared their opinions on lying. Each author had a different perspective on the topic. Lying is sometimes acceptable when it is used to protect the feelings of others.
