Lying is certainly appropriate in some situations. People lie all the time. I find it necessary to lie all the time. I lie about my age. I lie to girls about how successful I am. I lie on my job applications. When an application asks if I have ever been convicted of a felony I always check no. I find that most people do not even do a background check. Maybe some employers don’t care because who doesn’t have a past history of doing something they feel bad about or regret.
One of the Ten Commandments is Thou Shalt Not Lie. A man in church said he lies when his wife asks if she looks fat in this dress. The Bible says in the Book of Proverbs, Chapter 19, Verse 22, “A poor man is better than a liar. It must be pretty important not to lie if not
I agree with the fact that lying is NOT okay. BUT, its also okay in certain situations. Most adults lie to their children about multiple things such as: believing there is a Santa, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, etc. Some adults Some children think what they are being told is true
Lying can save you in severe situations such as life or death. Elie lied about his age and said he was eighteen instead of fifteen. “‘Your age?’ he asked, perhaps trying to sound paternal. ‘I'm eighteen.’ My voice was trembling.” (Wiesel 31). Not telling exact information to strangers about yourself can prevent bad things from happening. He told the doctor he was sick so he didn’t have to get his crown taken. His crown could buy him an extra ration of bread and soup, so he decided it’d be smart to keep it. He said he was a farmer because it could save him from being killed immediately. Lying is one of many ways that can help people survive in certain situations.
Lying is known as a bad thing, but sometimes it can be used for good. Dishonesty just depends on how you utilize it. In the story, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain you will see lying happening very often. When Huckleberry Finn lies it is usually for a good purpose. While the king and duke use it for more greedy reasons.
Lies lead us away from God and make us create a false reality that ends up hurting us later in life. I think that the best life you can live is being happy, with loving friends and family, and a good relationship with God, and the only way you can have these things is through honesty and truth, not lies. Overall, honesty mentioned in the eighth commandment will help us live a good life and lead us to live morally. Commandments seven and ten are the commandments of justice. Commandment seven is “you shall not steal” and the tenth commandment is “you shall not covet your neighbor’s goods”.
Almost everybody can agree that lying is wrong, but are there any circumstances that make lying okay? In the book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, a young boy in the 1840s runs away from home, and floats down the Mississippi River with a runaway slave named Jim. The two undertake a series of adventures meeting lots of new people along the way. Much of the story is developed through the elaborate lies told by Huckleberry, which both shape him as a character and make the reader feel a deeper connection to him. In contrast, the Duke and The King are con artists who take advantage of people to steal their hard earned money for their personal benefit.
William Shakespeare once said, “God hath given you one face, and you make yourself another.” Lying is without a doubt never justifiable because lying can lead into even greater conflicts that might never be resolved additionally lying would ruin someone’s reputation; one might argue that lying can be justifiable under one circumstance which is that lying can protect people from danger; however, lying can make someone lose people’s trust.
Lying can be described as the act of telling an untruth, but just when is it ok to lie? In the articles, “It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying,” from Life on NBCNEWS.com, and “Brad Blanton: Honestly, Tell the Truth,” by Barbara Ballinger, it provides evidence that leads me to believe that lying is acceptable when you do it to protect a relationship or someone from a life or death situation.
So… lying… the thing that nearly every single person in the world does around the world. Just because people do it, does that make it acceptable? I believe that lying is always wrong to do no matter the situation. There are some people out there who think that lying causes stress and that lying isn’t a way of life, and i totally agree with them.
Speaking truthfully is a very important part of living ethically. The Bible has very strong feelings against lying as seen in this book of Psalms. If someone knowingly tells someone that they intend to do something, but know that there is no
There are 4 kinds of lies, there is a lie in the interest of the liar, lie to protect someone, lie to cause harm, or lie by omission. Lying is sometimes acceptable because lying can protect others, it might get you out of a difficult situation, however lying can hurt others even yourself. There is many examples of when lying is okay. Dishonesty is justified when it can protect others. Obviously, lying is sometimes okay. But it’s a slippery slope. I remember hearing a friend once lie to another friend about how much money he and I had just lost at blackjack (it was like $150 and he said $250) in order to make the story even funnier. Not a huge deal—I’ve probably done the same thing other times—and yet, I never quite trusted this friend the same
As Martin Luther stated, "What harm would it do, if a man told a good strong lie for the sake of the good and for the Christian church... a lie out of necessity, a useful lie, a helpful lie, and such lies would not be against God, he would accept them." (Rogers,
