A lifetime of magical memories Growing up I didn’t have many friends. Reading became my get away instead of playing outside. The one book that I found that I could get away with was the Harry Potter series. This series has taken on a new world for me. Harry Potter takes people to a new universe and has defined a generation. I will be taking a closer look as to why this series is a great series for people to read. As I mentioned above, these books take on a new world for the reader. When growing up I was bullied a lot for the way I looked and how I sounded. My eighth grade teacher convinced my mom that she should let me read the Harry Potter books. With much convincing my mom eventually caved in. That was the best decision she has ever made …show more content…
With hearing about more ladies in the world pulling towards feminism or woman’s equality, the ladies in the books are a great influence. The ladies such as Hermione, Luna, Mrs. Weasly, Ginny, even the evil Bellatrix, all are strong willed individuals who can help themselves in almost any situation they have fallen into. This is a great example to girls growing up. It sets the tone in a young ladies life where you can help yourself in a situation but you also aren’t afraid to ask for help if the situation needs it. There are so many other types of things that the harry potter books have to offer. You can pull so many life lessons from them. Never judge a book by its cover is one of the lessons, another is that friendship is a great thing. There are many other life lessons from the …show more content…
Arguments have been made that all these books do is promote death, witches, and devil worshiping. I can see where people are coming from with this argument. Yes this is a book about young wizards and witches, yes this book deals with death, and yes it also deals with a group of people “worshiping” their “lord”. Coming from a Christian reformed background I can see where parents would get scared to let their kids read this because of those things. Since I have read these books, even though I am a Christian, I don’t think I turned out to be a devil worshiping witch wannabee. I am going to school to be a Bible teacher. I believe parents just need to have a little faith in their kids to make the best
My experience with literature started when I was in the first grade. My first-grade teacher was named Ms. Young. Every Friday, all the teachers would come together to have story time and read the children a book. I would be so excited for story time because I would sit down with my best friends Ashley and Jordan, and we would listen to the teacher that was assigned to read to us. During story time, all the children would gather around in a big circle and the teacher would be in the center in a big brown rocking chair, and read. Over time in the school year, the children would read bigger and longer books like the Junie B. Jones series, chapter books, and the extreme level, which would be the Harry potter series. Sometimes I would fall asleep because the book that was read was very dull. I remember Ms. Young read to us the “Very Hungary Caterpillar”9 by Eric Carle. I loved that book as a child. It had great illustrations of the caterpillar turning into a butterfly. This book made me love reading for the rest of my life. Now in college, I love to read books. I only
All this has added to the growing popularity of the Harry Potter brand that is everywhere today. Young readers can relate to Harry’s issues and the books create another world the readers can subconsciously ‘escape’ too.
There is a beauty in books. Each book opens up your mind to a world unknown. Each page of a book makes you think to yourself "what's going to happen next?". Books give you thoughts and opinions. Books teach you things you never knew. They allow you to escape reality and enter someone else's world. Books
J.K Rowling’s Harry Potter series, is banned for being too scary, setting a bad example for kids, and violating religious beliefs. In the series it violates religious beliefs. In the Bible, it explains that “wizards, witches, demons, and devils exist and are very powerful and dangerous. Teachers think students will be confused when they see something wicked is made to look fun”(P3). Rockwood school is not alone, they also think that witches and wizards are evil, and if the student reads about good witches and wizards, they will take the bible more lightly. Teachers think that students can’t tell the difference between what the Bible says and what a fiction book tells the student.
In my mind it is no different than so many other fantasy stories I have read. I can honestly say I had not read Harry Potter until this assignment, if for no other reason than it just didn’t interest me. Did I feel like the talk of wizards and spells affected my Christianity belief system? Absolutely not. I think those that worry their children will want to learn more about witchcraft after reading the book should be more concerned with prepping their child. My daughter is not old enough yet to read the book, however, when she is we will have an open honest conversation. I would hope that the ideals and beliefs that my husband and I have instilled in my child are far stronger than the power of a book. Yes, books are powerful, but more powerful than parents? When I took something away from my daughter when she was little it made it that object even more desirable. If we ban these books, are we not doing the same? We are infringing on their intellectual freedom to have them decide for themselves what they would like to learn more about. As parents it is our job to help guide them to what is right and wrong and then pray that we have done our job effectively. We give them out experiences and help them to identify between reality and fantasy. Maybe that is why some parents so strongly oppose Harry Potter. They are concerned they have not given their children the faith system that can sustain an outside perspective. I
Everyone loves to sit down and read a good book that really makes you get into it. What about a type of literature that really makes you wonder and is not realistic but fun to read about because it is different. Then maybe you should read the book called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, which was written by a talented writer named J.K. Rowling. This is an amazing book that is very popular, but then at the same time very disliked by some also. Witchcraft and other mythical actions happen upon this novel and can capture your mind in the first chapter. It can capture children and adults alike; this is not just a book for children. Some adults think otherwise though because many of them have been
Everyone has encountered a problem during their life whether a book had made them think about it or not! Some have bullies that won’t leave them alone others have who knows what kind of problems. However a book can make you think differently about yourself as you are and it can make you see things and feelings toward how other people feel. If you have never read something,
Books can make us laph and cry and learn, this is true but they reprisent so much more than that they can cause uproar and tear people apart like Salmon Rushdie’s book The Satanic Verses and at the same time they can bring people together in a world-wide fan club like the Harry Potter series. books are very important to me and many others. I think that books and stories are an outlet as well as a friend. these books all inspired me to have courage and be the best me I can be.

The Harry Potter series have been read and analyzed in depth by scholars and children. Scholars who have broken down this series talks about the underlying messages that relate to the current society in every way. Personally, I did not grow up reading these books so I will be writing about how I believe a child would respond and how I respond to reading the books as an adult. This series draws upon ideas of xenophobia, psychoanalysis, ethics, empathy, and much others.
Have you ever read the Harry Potter series? I bade you to read the Harry Potter series. I have three reasons why you should read the novel, and they are: if you like magic, if you like wizards and witches, if you like suspense, then read the Harry Potter series. However, if you haven’t read the series, here is a brief description of the first book of the novel: “The Fantasy Novel, ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’, By J.K. Rowling is about a boy named Harry Potter who was a one year old that was left on the doorstep of his mother’s sister’s house, (Petunia Dursley). His Aunt and her husband, Vernon Dursley, accepted Harry. Eleven years later Harry Potter receives a letter from one of the best schools of Witchcraft and Wizardry named Hogwarts, a school for magic people. When Harry finds out he is a wizard, he sets off for Hogwarts, where he finds that he is very famous because of his lightning shaped scar and his great Quidditch skills. He also meets many kind people and his very first best friends, named Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. Harry, Ron, and Hermione survive all the way to the end of the novel, where they discover that the Sorcerer’s Stone is about to be stolen, so Harry Ron, and Hermione try to save the stone. Finally Harry Potter alone reaches the stone where he meets the thief of the stone, the Dark Lord. There he most importantly finds a path he must take later in the series to overtake the Dark Lord, if he could survive his destiny.” After reading
Another factor which I believe has led to the novels success is that while reading, the reader wishes that they could live in this fantasy world created by Rowling where life is anything but ordinary. The novels make the reader somewhat desire a life like the one led by the characters of the novels, like going to a school to learn wizarding, always having extraordinary things happen and just being at Hogwarts seems like an unequaled joy for some. These novels have the ability to reignite the long lost imaginations of adults, and keep the imaginations of children strong.
Using imagination and creativity, J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series has defined literature as transformative. In this seven-book series J.K Rowling imagined and creatively pieced together a fantasy world of muggles, wizards, tyrants, and heroes to symbolically share with readers problems plaguing modern society. Similar to Shelley’s work of the past, never before have readers in the modern era seen teenage and adult mania surrounding an 11-year-old wizard. Some will argue that J.K. Rowling’s young-adult series lacks depth or wants to twist young minds by using magic and evil, but through close examination it is evident that
Within the story of Harry Potter there are many concepts to be noted. This book is interesting and very different from any other book. These many concepts will tell you about some of these strange things that goes on.
