When researchers begin looking online for sources it can become tiresome looking through countless web pages to find a credible source. On Global Post.com an article, “Why is Credibility of Online Sources Important in Education?” written by Kori Morgan said, “One problem of authorship on the Internet is that anyone with the skills and equipment can publish a website. Although a resource may have good information, it may be published by someone without qualifications, experience and education.” This quote by Morgan is a great explanation of why online sources can become trouble for people’s research. Without knowing the proper techniques for reviewing websites this can be fatal for the author’s paper. Starting with the least credible website,
For one thing it is free to use GCU library for the articles versus paying the outside publisher for it. The GCU library has over 46000 full text Journals covering all the major academic subject. The majority of the resources are peer reviewed and scholarly. Utilizing the general internet can have you reading and citing information that is not scholarly or peer-reviewed. If for any reason information needs to be researched on the internet, However, the best thing to do is it make sure it is Authority- Scholarly material; Currency- Current on the information used; Objectively- resources; the information provided is good and clear; Accuracy-accurate free of errors and have cited information; relevancy; relevant to your assignment. If this is
It is important to use the GCU library vs. internet search because using the GCU library you have access to over 46,000 full-text journal titles covering every major academic subject, and also receiving quality academic content. Using general internet search, publishers may want you to pay for the access of full-text content. Using scholarly, peer-reviewed resources will attribute to the overall quality of my course work. Being that information is everywhere on the internet you want to evaluate the accuracy and the reliability of the resources. It would be my job to research and evalutate all internet searches in a proper
I used this website because it looked very trustworthy/credible since there was a lot of information and a lot of details to back it all up. I understood all of the information because I have seen it in textbooks and other sources. There is also a lot of information on it about my topic, and the author had written it to be very well understood. Also, it has .org at the end, which is usually better than .com and more reliable than .com websites. Commercial websites usually aren’t the best for researching, they can be giving you very false information. Organization websites are not the best of the best, but they are better than some of your other options.
Carr had experiences of his own working with the web. He researched other writers with similar views on the subject to support his own thesis. Using evidence from different reputable sources helps draw in the reader and shows them the widespread effects of the web. Carr states that one of the articles he gained information from said, “It is clear that users are not reading online in the traditional sense”(94). The way we read now is considered as "skimming through titles, contents pages and abstracts going for quick wins”. Usually when people read on the Internet, they do not spend the time to read the entire article, and it is seen that people skip from text to text, focus getting lost quickly.
While many remember the Great Depression as a time of terrible trials for Americans, few understand the hardships faced by Mexicans and Mexican Americans in the U.S. This paper examines the experiences of Mexicans in America during the Great Depression and explores the devastating impact of repatriation efforts. America has an extensive history of accepting Mexican workers when they are needed for cheap labor, and demanding that they be deported when the economic situation is more precarious in an attempt to open jobs for Americans. In the 1930s, “Americans, reeling from the economic disorientation of the depression, sought a convenient scapegoat. They found it in the Mexican community.” Mexicans were blamed for economic hardships
The biggest forms of information given to you through using the internet would include blogs, podcasts, and videos. The sources I use to evaluate when doing research on the internet is authenticated speaker, speaker qualified, authority, other found credible sources, accuracy, last revision, and it’s current these are some factor I could think of. The topic I chose has credible sources and also reliability sources that are already evaluated and uploaded on podcast, blog, and video.
I could have use some of other site that google would have shown me. Most sites though don’t have the source citation at the bottom of the page or article. This site I used was a database from my school so I would believe they would give us the best sites but next time I should use other sites to find information that the site might not have. This site has credibility, and tells you where it came from, when it was published, and who’s it from .
When beginning to research for this project, it seemed that a lot of credible sources were from universities or other educational establishments. The best website is sponsored by Vanderbilt University and has awesome information and was very eye-catching. There was also another site sponsored by The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and it gave good information but not as much as the best one. Lastly, I chose a site that was not very good at all to discuss what makes it not credible. Knowing the difference between a credible source and a non-credible source is crucial to the research process. Each site chosen for this project has several pros and cons of why it is either credible or non-credible.
Explain how AQ was able to establish terrorist cells within the United States capable of carrying out these attacks without detection.
I recently read an article written by Neil L Waters called “Why You Can’t Cite Wikipedia in My Class”. The comment that Neil Waters made about how Wikipedia may lead to a citable source, is reason enough to use Wikipedia. Wikipedia itself is a website that can help with writing a paper and not hinder it. For example, when you are looking for information on Wikipedia it bluntly tells the reader that Wikipedia is a free online encyclopedia which will allow anyone to edit or submit an article. Wikipedia is the largest and most known websites to obtain a reference from. Due to the fact that anyone can add what they assume is important makes the website credibility questionable. This is why most professors do not allow it as a reference when writing a paper. Neil wrote an article about why students were not allowed to use Wikipedia in his class. He stated his students are responsible for the accuracy of information they provide, and they cannot point to Wikipedia or any similar source that may appear in the future to escape the consequences of errors. He even went on the further explain that Wikipedia is not an acceptable citation, even though it may lead one to a suitable
After, come secondary sources, these you need look through more to make sure they are valid and see between any bias there may be. Secondary sources are textbooks, editorials, and journal articles. These can be hard to consider accurate because there is usually some amount of bias within evidence. For example, a textbook for a catholic school on religion, even though it contains scholarly documentation, it may not include and adjust specific evidence that may go against the religion. As well, a journal article from a conservative site will not necessarily shed positive light on any democratic view. These sources can be used but only if it is capable to differ between bias and facts.
A source is the place or resource in which knowledge has been obtained. When looking for sources to use in a research paper you need to be able to determine whether or not a source is reliable and credible. It is important to use reliable and credible sources so that the information you use in a document you are writing is accurate and will not affect you in a negative way, by either getting a bad grade in school or just looking unintelligent to a colleague.
I would like to share with you what I have recently learned about obtaining information through the Internet. The Internet is a tremendous potential source of information about virtually any imaginable topic of interest. However, because there is no regulation or quality control over what people choose to publish online, it is crucial to learn ways of distinguishing credible, reliable, factually accurate information sources from those that are not credible, unreliable, factually inaccurate sources. For example, websites that are maintained by government agencies, accredited university research programs, and licensed professionals are good candidates to be considered reliable sources of information online.
Beer is the largest alcohol segment nationwide, accounting for roughly 85% of all alcohol volume sold in the United States and annually generating over $91.6 billion in retail sales. The current state of the beer industry is that demand has dropped for the overall industry. Craft Beer has all the momentum and is continuing to take sales from the bigger companies in America. Even though craft beers are on the rise overall beer sales have been in a decline. This has introduced new methods of making sales in the bigger companies. Anheuser-Busch and Molson-Coors have created their own sub companies that imitate microbrew strategies. They advertise great tasting beers that use rich ingredients. This is creating greater competition among microbrews because hundreds of microbrews are being created yearly to go along with the ones that the big companies are creating themselves. The competitive market is making it difficult for microbreweries to ever turn a profit leading to several companies closing shop every year. The overall amount of craft beer has been increasing significantly, as shown by the graph below.
Research in the library labs were very helpful and informative in spotting web sites that were biased and did not have creditable information. Many people make web sites that are not credible and it is always good to select scholarly sources when writing research papers for school. When one researches a subject, you should always keep good records. I am a disorganized person, and lose
