When I wear my Pre-Law Fraternity sweatshirt as I walk into my business class of 600 students, I get an undeserving odd look from my peers. I am surrounded by students strutting in their consulting club windbreakers, Google t-shirts, and backpacks that say Haas Undergraduate Student. I am one of three in my class of six hundred that has aspirations of going to law school. I plan to earn my law degree in order to pursue a career as a forensic accountant, which also receives an undeserving ‘what?’ from the same peers.
I come from a family of police officers, not exclude my dog who is a purpose patrol canine.I have never desired to become an officer due to the risk, but I always knew that I wanted to be in a field similar to my relatives so I could remain relevant. This drew my interest to law from a young age. However, I found stability in numbers and finance, which I appreciated and enjoyed. This has led me to merge finance and law in the most efficient way I can, meaning I have to take leadership roles in order to pursue my two passions.

Overall, the semester went smoothly, and the next semester I received two positions in our autonomous student union after being recommended by peers. My first job deals with the creation and editing of finance bylaws for our organization, which is my favorite as I merge together budgeting, auditing, and creating codes to ensure that our student government remains transparent and fair. My other job deals with Campaign Finance committee, where I am known around the office for being the only one that can be darling while informing candidates running for positions that their campaign will be under investigation for an ill-use of
Also I enjoy the various jobs that Law Enforcement proposes; you get to learn something new every day. Becoming a Police Officer offers new challenges daily and there are few career fields more challenging than Law
Based on the ethical and professional practices of each of the branches, the law enforcement career path is most in line with my ethical beliefs and professional disposition. I feel I have a high code of ethics of what is right and wrong while it may
Of course when figuring out what career you may want to pursue it is essential to inquire information from individuals who are working in that field of interest. In my case I decided to interview a longtime friend and active police officer in my hometown community. Officer Delancy from the Stuart Police Department located in Martin County, Florida. Officer Delancy has been a patrol officer for the last over twelve years and counting. As I talked with officer Delancy one question I asked him was why did he want to become an officer of the law. His reply was “I always knew I wanted to make my community a better place to live in and becoming an officer is one way I can help to do just that.” Officer Delancy felt the need to protect and serve our
My decision to become a Criminal Justice major was not a simple one. My high school cross country coach was also a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer who told me that I had a very “police-like” attitude, which ignited a spark in my brain. Initially I thought it would be pretty cool to chase people down, shoot guns, and have my picture plastered on the front page of every newspaper for taking down the biggest drug cartel in the United States although my mind was still set on majoring in Athletic Training.
I have currently received my associates of science degree in criminal justice from Southwest Tennessee Community College. I decided to further my education and obtain my bachelors degree in criminal justice to explore more opportunities. I believe that going back to school will help give me the tools necessary to excel as a criminal justice professional. When I was in high school criminal justice was always something I was interested in learning about. I wanted to know more about the criminal justice system and how cops, courts, and corrections operate with one another. Once I enter into the criminal justice field and begin working as a professional with my bachelors I will become more remarkable to employers. This degree will also give me
Becoming a Police Officer has been my dream for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I always wanted to see what was going on when the flashing lights and sirens raced past my house. As I grew up, I realized I possessed a strong desire to help others and to become someone who served my community in a way that would make my family and me proud. My desire from a very young age to become a Police Officer has influenced choices and decisions I have made and contributed significantly toward shaping me into the person I am now.
Since I was a child I have always had an interest in law enforcement. A lot of my family has experience in this field including two police officers. After lengthy studies into what would be the best move for me I decided that a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice would be the best life choice for me. I will begin by enrolling in college in the fall of 2016. Looking forward to my career I am very excited about what this life holds for me.
I can truly say receiving an acceptance offer to Howard University School of Law is such an honor and a blessing. I have dreamt of this moment many times over the past few years. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be a part of Howard's legacy entrenched in perseverance and commitment to social justice. Since I began looking into potential options for my legal education, Howard has been at the top of my list for a multitude of reasons. As someone who attended a PWI for undergrad and as a result encountered some pretty blatant racism and discrimination, I feel that it would be so powerful to attend an institution founded to specifically empower our people and groom us to change the trajectory for future generations. Besides Howard’s ideal location in the heart of our nation’s capital, the school itself maintains a nationally recognized prestigious reputation while offering graduates unparalleled networking opportunities. I look forward to being taught by renowned scholars who look like me, and the extremely low student-faculty ratio ensures that I will have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with my professors.
I hope you are doing well! I apologize for this delayed update, but here's a quick summary of my first two semesters so far at Wake Forest :-)
My decision to go into police work has, of course, been influenced by my personality and talents as well as how those aspects of myself interact with the necessary skills for criminal justice careers. Much like we learned one needs to be able
The Discover Law at University at Buffalo Law School Scholars Program gives college students the opportunity to experience law school and also, prepare for the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). I am interested in the program because for four weeks, professors are taking time out of their summer to not only help students prepare for law school, but also the LSAT, which is an exam needed in order to be accepted into law school aside from good grades. Early onset learning and preparation for the LSAT can insure a higher score when it comes time to take the exam. Therefore, the program is highly beneficial in my process of becoming a lawyer and will stand out on my resume when applying for internships in the future. I am also interested in the program because it takes into consideration the daily struggles of a college student by offering a free summer program which is beneficial to a law student's future.
Since I was 11 years old, I knew that I wanted to go to law school. When I finally started college, I majored on Criminal Justice thinking that that was what I needed to study to prepare for law school, but after many conversations with professors, advisors, including attorneys, I decided to change my major to Liberal Arts instead. As a Spanish speaking individual, I realized that in order to reach my goal of preparing for law school, I needed to improve my English. Since then, I have taken courses that I believe has helped me to improve my English. Since I started college, I have been planning my pathway to law school. This is why, when I was the Student Trustee in my second year of college, I contacted our First District Attorney Paul Caccaviello to see if I could do a work study at his office. I was able to work with him for two semesters. I would read
Being so young the choice I’ve choose for a career; People would think its to much. I grew up with my family being in the law fields. I started gaining interest when my parent introduced me to different law TV shows. I started watching TV shows such as criminal minds, Hawaii five-o, flashpoint, and etc. The mystery to solving the cases and actually being able to catch the suspect is exciting to me.
Then when I was about 10 years old I started watching this law and order show, and it made me change my mind about being a cop. I wanted to be a lawyer instead. I wanted to be a lawyer because they make a lot of money if you are a good one, and they get to defend innocent people who have been found guilty.
My career objectives and aspirations include successfully graduating with honors from North Carolina State University with my bachelor’s degree, attending a prestigious law school specializing in business law and/or international law, and earning a well-paying job to match the skills I learned and developed. In preparation to attend law school and in attending law school, I aim to have the opportunity to shadow or intern a lawyer in the fields of law that I am interested in. While in law school, or upon graduating, I would love the chance to clerk for a Supreme Court justice. My decision to pursue law school is influenced by my desire to have a career that benefits society. There is a lot of confusion today on what is legal and what is not,
