Of course when figuring out what career you may want to pursue it is essential to inquire information from individuals who are working in that field of interest. In my case I decided to interview a longtime friend and active police officer in my hometown community. Officer Delancy from the Stuart Police Department located in Martin County, Florida. Officer Delancy has been a patrol officer for the last over twelve years and counting. As I talked with officer Delancy one question I asked him was why did he want to become an officer of the law. His reply was “I always knew I wanted to make my community a better place to live in and becoming an officer is one way I can help to do just that.” Officer Delancy felt the need to protect and serve our

I get asked the same question all the time, why do you want to be in law enforcement? My answer: This world has far too many bad people out there and not enough good people. I want to fight the good fight, the best way I know how. By helping the people in my community. With each person I help I hope to spark a change in not only their lives but the lives of those around them. This spark will turn into a flame and then a burning fire of hope, that spreads across this world. This is my
Being one of the largest populated and diverse cities, a peace officer that’s employed within Harris County, TX boundary, would encounter individuals from different ethnic backgrounds, financial status, religions, etc. commonly. Furthermore, a peace officer in this area would be faced with strenuous incidents more often in a rural area and would benefit the peace officer with experience. You can’t have a temper and you have to be a good judge of character. You really have to have an eye for detail and constantly be on your toes. You have to be somebody that really helps people out. He went on to tell me how I should seriously consider this career knowing my accomplishments in the Army and currently being in school studying Criminal Justice. He told me, “The State is looking for guys like you when they go to hire a person. Someone that stands out above the rest, is honest, has integrity, and is more than willing to work hard and treat people fairly in the world.” I think highly of Randy and what he has done and accomplished. He has been more than a mentor for me and I know I can always count on him. After gaining insight on his career, it is still something I would very much like to do. It is interesting and now more tempting than ever to put school on hold and enlist in the Academy as I am having my doubts on whether or not school is for me. In conclusion, the life of a law enforcer is very different and less entertaining than how it is portrayed on television and in the movies. It is also very different from my career as Military Police but it is still very much a career choice of mine. Because of this new insight and my experience, I am able to compare these stereotypes with the actual roles of law
An examination of the patrol officer’s jobs and duties took place. The gathering of information and interviewing a seasoned patrol offer assisted in this examination.
