Why I Want To Pursue A Degree In Physics

These three interconnected goals alongside my optimistic attitude connect me to my future because they lay the path toward its realization. During college, I plan to major in physics and mathematics, but I expect to take a wide variety of courses to maintain my well-rounded nature. With this broad background and focus on personal goals, I feel confident that I will meet my career objective and dream of becoming a physicist. How do my goals provide the means to meet my objective? My avid pursuit of volunteerism encourages me to maintain a career path on which I may develop technologies that will help people. Once I obtain employment, I hope to be able to utilize my leadership skills on the job site as an expert in my field; however, in order to obtain that employment initially, I must complete college and graduate school, which will require that I excel in my classes. If I achieve my goals, I will certainly set myself up to successfully meet my ultimate objective.

The one idea that drew me to a liberal arts college was the ability to take a wide breadth of classes from all disciplines. I hope to receive not just facts and memorization out of my education, but applications to other subjects and even daily activities. A prominent example of this is my potential major, physics. To prepare for an eventual career in the scientific field, this semester I am pursuing research in physical oceanography. Also, I joined the physics club in order to extend my learning outside the classroom, in addition to using this club as an opportunity to seek out like-minded individuals who also share a passion for science.

I met and outscored my best friend in Biology on almost every test and lab. I competed against one of the boys in Chemistry, whom I continue to challenge in an effort to make him push himself and myself as well. I was driven, hungry to learn more and help those around me. I stayed up late to take peers’ calls and answer their messages about assignments. I helped anyone who asked for my assistance to the best of my abilities. During this time, I realized how much I enjoyed Science and it was not solely because I was doing well. I recognized I had a natural talent for science as well as an inclination towards it. I enjoyed Biology and Chemistry immensely, and because of this, my decision to major in Biochemistry was easy, almost obvious, unlike the conclusion I assumed back in elementary

Deciding to pursue a degree was an easy decision because I didn’t choose to further my education for normal reasons. My two reasons on why I went back to school are because of competition and pride. The first being competition comes from the fact that I’m one of twelve children. Sibling rivalry is a very real thing and competing against eleven other individuals to show how you fit in the food chain is difficult. Only three of my siblings have completed their college education two of them graduating with a master in their fields as well as having 3.5 or higher GPA. As for the other sibling, she recently graduated with her bachelors with 3.9 and has been recently accepted into her master’s program. I’m one of three who is currently going to college

I would like to attend college because I thoroughly enjoy learning. I take great pride in my education; as a women in the twenty-first century, I am going to take advantage of the opportunities I have and educate myself as much as possible. Obtaining a college degree is also essential to thrive in the industry I would like to be involved in after college, the fashion business industry. I selected my major, business administration because I have curated and ran an online store since I was thirteen. Sunday comes again, and it's finally time to continue the weekly interviews with my grandpa. Before we began the interview, he showed me an in-depth family tree that a relative of ours had put together for our family. Being the tech savvy person that I am, I show him how to navigate around the application of our family tree. Then we began talking about our topic, fear.

College, up until my sophomore year of high school, had always been portrayed in my own mind as an overly enthusiastic and admittedly picture-perfect environment. It was, for some reason, a faraway land with smooth sidewalks and clean, crisp landscapes, smiling students and animated professors, cozy (albeit messy) dorm rooms and fashion-forward backpacks. The word itself meant immensely more to me than four years of hard work and the opportunity of earning a degree. It represented an era of independence, something I’d never truly tasted before, and of freedom to learn and to flourish, to create and nurture relationships that would last a lifetime, and to be myself without the polarizing judgment that came along with growing up in a tight-knit community. It seems that this day and age, college is becoming a very crucial part of today's society. Without college it is very difficult to get a job in a field that you want to be in, but at the same time it is difficult for people without a degree to maintain their job. This is why it is very important for a person to complete college. Hutchinson Community College, like many other colleges, is working to prepare their students for life after they have graduated. Although there are many ways to improve a college to make people want to stay and finish their degree, the college should be aware of the students’ desire to finish the degree before they are accepted.

My senior year of high school I sat in my moms car on the Purdue campus and cried over a pamphlet about veterinary medicine. I had worked myself to the bone for four years of high school and I was changing my mind completely after my acceptance. To many people it may not have seemed like a big deal at such a young age, however I am a planner. I like to know exactly what I am going to be doing and when exactly I will be doing it. To see the future that I had so painstaking planned fall apart was a scary experience. As my mom sat there thinking she asked me: "Samantha, what do you really enjoy? What is your passion? If you could pick any career regardless of the pay what would it be?" This was a tough question for me. I had chosen vet med specifically because of the high salary and my love of animals. The fact of the matter was I did not enjoy science and I really did not enjoy math. My heart was with history, government, and politics. As we drove home that day we bounced around several career options within my chosen fields. Coming into IUPUI I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted to do, thanks in big part to my internship at a local law office.

Upon my visit at Texas A&M University at College Station I was intrigued by the unique traditions of the university. The campus itself was not like other big city campuses, it had its own zing. It is an open minded place and I aspire my mind to be opened to what is out there. College station is with today’s movements and they are moving forward. The school’s atmosphere is friendly and inviting, it is definitely somewhere I'd like to be. Accordingly, on the hand of my education, the engineering program is wonderful. I had met one of the professors while on my trip, she was an exceptional unique professor and within the two hours I was with her I had learned about physics in a way I would never forget. Since moving to the United States, a land of opportunity, I followed the immigrant tradition of working hard to pursue my passion/ambition to study and get my degree. I started attending community college a year after I came to the United states. I spent three years at Northern Virginia Community College and transferred to the university of Virginia to earn a B.A degree. I have always kept a full-time job while attending community college to cover my living expenses and help my parents back home Throughout my journey of achieving a higher degree, I learned how to work hard and how to overcome challenges in my own personal and academic life. Now I am very confident in achieving my goals.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have wanted to attend North Dakota State University. Both my sister and dad are NDSU alumni, so furthering my education where they did gives us something special we can share. Additionally, not many of my relatives attended college, allowing me to see the difficulties in providing for yourself and family without a college degree. Although I know the next seven years are going to be challenging, strenuous, and will push me to the edge of my comfort zone, the satisfaction of administering medical services to those who need them will make it all worth it. Not only will I be able to care for others with a Pharm. D., but my own opportunities will grow. Whenever I get discouraged during the coming years, my mantra will be “college is an investment in myself,” a reminder to keep working hard.

I would consider myself very an incredibly driven person, both academically, and in my personal goals. Throughout my educational career, I have consistently strived to achieve the most I could. For me, this meant high academic achievements, honors accolades and achieving the goals that I set my mind to. I have a very strong intrinsic drive to seize every opportunity I’m given. To guarantee I didn’t close any doors to my future I applied to as many colleges as I could instead of staying in my comfort zone and applying to schools I was guaranteed admission to. One of the biggest ways that I am a go-getter is the fact that I faced rejection head on from top schools in the country. For me, it was better to try than always wonder “what-if” even though the process became extremely disheartening at times. I pushed myself throughout the admissions process to have as many opportunities as possible. Additionally, I have an innate desire to learn new things and grow through my education. I have pushed myself to take challenging Advanced Placement electives in subjects I am passionate about and I am eager to begin college to continue increasing my knowledge in certain fields. My whole life I have always wanted to become a successful engineer, and graduate from the University of Cincinnati. Some of my goals in life are to go to the University of Cincinnati.
