Science is All I Need Back in elementary school, I generally had a great distaste for everything science; I preferred math. Science seemed too simple and I disapproved of the slow-moving pace. One day a year the school hosted Science Matters Day, my favorite people, Scientists, were invited to visit; they brought all kinds of fun activities. One of my favorite memories of all has to be the day they made a hard-boiled egg sink into a bottle. The experiment was still simple, but it was different from anything we had ever done before. This experiment included the use of a flame to produce heat and create pressure. I thought it was interesting, and I was hooked. My next run in with science could have been better. The school put on a Science Fair, where all the students did their projects and experiments outside of school, but it was still run by the school. My partner and I wanted to do the project completely on our own. We refused help from everyone and anyone, but we had no ideas and we wanted it to be original. We waited for inspiration until we could not wait any more. We were walking home …show more content…
I met and outscored my best friend in Biology on almost every test and lab. I competed against one of the boys in Chemistry, whom I continue to challenge in an effort to make him push himself and myself as well. I was driven, hungry to learn more and help those around me. I stayed up late to take peers’ calls and answer their messages about assignments. I helped anyone who asked for my assistance to the best of my abilities. During this time, I realized how much I enjoyed Science and it was not solely because I was doing well. I recognized I had a natural talent for science as well as an inclination towards it. I enjoyed Biology and Chemistry immensely, and because of this, my decision to major in Biochemistry was easy, almost obvious, unlike the conclusion I assumed back in elementary
I’m applying to UA Early College because I want to be able to step into college ahead of the game. I have been an overachiever since I was little and take each chance I get handed to me. This program additionally prepares me for courses I will take when in college. It gives a more profound understanding of how classes will be and the paces they will go at.
I have always been interested in science, but the hands on experiments have helped me understand and grasp concepts much easier. I recall my first experiment in first grade when the class was given the lima bean sprout experiment, which required students to plant a bean in a paper cup. The purpose of this experiment was to teach us about photosynthesis and practice our observation skills. I recall how others were fascinated about why their sprout grew. I, on the other hand, was more captivated by why the other sprouts did not grow and the factors, which contributed to that outcome. This basic experiment taught me to look at things through different lenses and not always to the most obvious path.
I am interested in attending VPAC Early College for the amount of opportunities I will be given. I’m excited about classes being offered that wouldn’t normally be available in a standard high school setting. As well as being able to socialize and work with people who have similar interests in the Arts. I would also have a more individualized education and would be able to improve substantially due to this. These opportunities will allow me to grow not only as a student but as a person as well.
The experiments would serve to prove that science is observable, understandable, and thrilling. After each exercise would be an explanation of the experiments' concept(s). Once I finished presenting my proposal, Mr. Davis folded his hands and peered at me from across the table. I held my breath. He unfolded his hands and turned the palms up. He grinned. He thought it was a great idea as it fit into the national Boys and Girls Club aim to implement a STEM program into local clubs. I was
I would like to attend the BHS/UNM Early College Program for many reasons. As college is such an expensive endeavor it would be ideal for me to be in this program because it would supply a whole year of college for much less than it would normally. Not to mention that is may give me more merit for future colleges or businesses to offer me scholarships. I am sure that being in this program will aid me in future college as I will have already experienced it to a higher degree than most students. To me this is the next step in my life to achieve my future goals and hopes of being a college and high school graduate. I have many potential fields that I would like to pursue! My main goal is to be a musician/composer for films and other media, but
I’m Andy Adams a Junior in high school and in early middle college. I clearly don’t have a favorite subject yet, but soon enough. In English class I’m a little rusty on some stuff, but can work through it. I’m very motivated, when there is an assignment I’m on it right away and get done. I do get rusty on test and I still get retakes if I failed miserably and still get on it. I’m very good in English like I get a B previous English classes.
Since we lived in such rural area, my mom decided that it was best to teach us science and interact with the outside world instead of just doing basic learning. During the summer in our blue house in the middle of nowhere, my mom would have us actually do science experiments when we were a young age. Setting up experiments on the sturdy kitchen table we would often do things like the volcano project, or study different types of rocks. If there was nice weather out we would open up the window and do experiments based on temperature and how fast something can lose heat, how to take care of plant life, or to see how condensation works in real time. So ever since I was young, I was known to be best in a science project as long as it was a hand on experiment. Never been the best in a written way, but want me to jump in a creek to we can look at specimens? I have done that, and I would so do it again. So thanks mom for setting me up for being a potential biologist. If course, you have to have curiosity when it comes to science. It was seven a.m. in farmland country, and the sun was just now rising over the treetops of the tiny woods behind the school. Being late fall we fourth graders were saying how cold it was in the late fall. Our science teacher guided us to a part of the creek that was easy to get in and out, today we were supposed to go into the water to collect samples to see if the water of the creek was
People say high school is some of the best years of life, but I know I will look back and disagree. For me, high school has been getting diagnosed with depression. High school has been losing friends. High school has been finding me.
Ever since I was younger, science has captivated my interest and has molded me into the person I am today. When the rain would come crashing down on my elementary
Looking back at the years that I have completed in high school is a funny but a true life changer. If I was to go back to one year of high school I would want to go back to freshman year. One reason why I would want to go back to freshman year is to talk to myself. Another reason I would want to go back it tell myself to listen more. The last reason would to see if I could improve myself in any way.
When I was seven years old I made a huge discovery about science. I realized that everything that surrounds me; the tree in my yard, the house that I live in, and the chair that I am sitting in right now are made of the same exact materials that I am made of! I made this discovery whilst I was discussing science with my dad. Earlier that day, at school we had been talking about molecules and how they were made of atoms. My dad often likes to extend my understanding of subjects which I study at school, which is what he was doing that day. Since we had discussed atoms and molecules in school my dad had decided to go a little further with me, and talk about what atoms were made of. This led us to the subject of protons, neutrons and electrons. Over the course of the next few days he taught me the basics of what I have now come
I’m currently completing year 10 at the state high school in Beaudesert, a small town in Queensland, in which I have resided all my life. I am the youngest of six children, all of which attended St Mary’s primary school. I have a family base in the area. I am supported by my farther who formed his own concrete business in town following the end of his schooling, whilst my mother has devoted her time to being a home maker following the birth of her first child. However, it is my future aspirations that stretch beyond this humble grounding. My two older brothers have both successfully completed apprenticeships in their field of interest progressing through Tafe and gaining certifications. I have observed my two older sisters complete lengthy
My first memory of doing a science activity in school was bird watching in kindergarten. I remember my teacher took my class outside and gave each of us a sheet of paper. She told us to draw every different bird that we saw. When we came back inside, she showed us pictures of different types of birds in our area and had us tell her which birds we saw. I remember that I really enjoyed doing this activity. I think I liked it because instead of having class inside, we got to have class outside. I also liked having the freedom to walk around outside and look for birds without my teacher with me the entire time. Another reason that this memory stands out is because it was my first real science activity in
A critical moment during my undergraduate career is when I came to the realization that it is alright for me not to know what to do with my future. I realized that I was doing the right thing by furthering my education so that once I finally did know what career I wanted to pursue I would then have a degree to help me stand out. Once more, Dr. Reed convincing me to pursue a degree in Communication is one of the best pieces of advice I acquired during my undergraduate career, if not ever. I most likely would not have the confidence I currently have in obtaining a degree that I have no idea what I am going to with once I graduate.
