Why I Want To Pursue A Career In Audiology

I believe that my involvement in the National Junior Honors Society could change my future significantly. It is an outstanding opportunity to develop many skills that can be used in high school, college, and my future career. It will improve my leadership abilities, oral skills, and will give me the chance to work with many other people. I understand how prestigious this program is and I am prepared to be a member of this very beneficial organization.

Colleges and universities must rely heavily on individual student integrity to create a successful educational environment. To eliminate clandestine practices such as cheating and collusion, scholastic institutions have adopted honor codes as a way of ensuring honesty. Evidence from the provided sources demonstrates the effectiveness of honor codes. My school, which currently lacks an honor code system, should establish one for the benefit of the student body.

I want the best for this organization and all people involved in it, and I really believe with the entirety of my being that I can help benefit the North Forsyth Chapter of the National Honor Society as a whole. I have extensive leadership experience with high schoolers and I actively take part in a youth group that goes above and beyond to assist those in need and build a stronger community around us. If there is one thing I hope that people remember about me – even after something so near as graduation – it is not my presentations, not my 4.1 GPA, but my character, my service, my trying to make life better for those around me. Add in that no dishonest students can work together and should be seated away from each other, and this will allow room for the honor code to take effect and be integrated accordingly. One might argue, that putting honest students with dishonest student will not work, because of the fact that cheating has already happened in schools that are known to have strict honor codes, such as the University of Virginia, in which Chris Khan, the author of the article “Pssst—How Do Ya Spell Plagiarism?” discovers, “Since last spring, 157 students have been investigated by their peers in the largest cheating scandal in memory. Thirty-nine of those accused of violating the school’s honor code have either dropped out or been expelled—the only penalty available for such a crime” (Source D.) However, Khan overlooks that just because an honor code is strict does not mean that it is effective in reducing cheating.

The National Honors Society is a remarkable and sensational opportunity for myself to take. I know that I should be in the Honors Society to better my future in education. When I think of my character, leadership, and service in the community I know it can be improved upon, but I do see the value I have developed in those traits over my lifetime. I believe that the Nation Honors Society should take me in and display its various favorable opportunities towards myself because of my growing, thriving traits.

Student Council and the National Honor Society both share a common purpose: helping others. I have been a representative for my grade in Student Council for three of my high school years and a National Honor Society member for two. In the National Honor Society, I have served as president throughout my senior year. Coincidentally, one of the four pillars of the National Honor Society is service, a component in a good citizen. As a National Honor Society president, I have helped coordinate a blood drive and assisted in others, provided support to the students who struggle socially or academically, and coordinated award presentations to a majority of the student body. The other side, Student Council, has also provided for me a way to help others and be a good citizen. Being an Audio Engineer is something that I want to partake as “My Future Career.” I chose this career, because on a personal level, my interest for music is very deep to the point that it literally runs through my veins. I was raised up in a music oriented family, where everybody in my family is musically talented in some way. I wanted to have a career where I can make my own music, and actually do something that I will enjoy. While doing a career interest inventory, I was able to narrow down and plan ahead of what I want to do in the future, I chose between a professional drummer and Audio Engineer, because I know that I will be able to flourish in both fields. Fading in as I slowly regain consciousness, I peek at my surroundings and observe many of children and adults wearing the same look, the look of terror and fear directed at myself. I begin to feel the matted carpet beneath me and the stiff, school lost and found box I am propped up against, as I slowly begin to fade out again. A loud ambulance siren assaults my ears as the seizure finally resolves and I begin to see the interior of the ambulance. Experiencing darkness, illumination and everything in between, this constant feeling of consciousness created holes in my memories, awareness of time, and language delays. I required intensive sessions of speech-language therapy during and after school, multiple times a week which was my first introduction to the world of speech and hearing sciences. A position in the audiology profession requires a wide variety of skills, experiences, and abilities. These range from basic skills such as compassion and ethics, to complex experiences regarding research involvement and clinical competence. I have a great number of these characteristics that can be shaped and molded into a full-fledged audiologist. The most unique characteristics I offer as an undergraduate student are my ability to empathize, my experiences in the audiology field, and my desire and persistence to become an audiologist. I have spent a great deal of my time trying to better understand individuals with hearing conditions.

Before I started my first semester of college I made sure that my academic and career goals were set to avoid indecisiveness. One of my intellectual objectives has always been to be a part of the honors college. Deep in my heart I know I have what it takes to be in an organization of students that excel with integrity. Furthermore, the benefits that come along with being a student within the honors college can assist me with getting through my scholastic agenda which includes internships, scholarships and honorary mentions.

A study done in Source E shows that there are only eight percent of students that would turn in a fellow student for cheating. If that sort of dishonesty becomes rampant in a school, the honor codes can no longer be upheld properly. The honesty of students is key to the success of honor codes. If a student is dishonest about the misbehavior of another student, then the honor code goes to waste, because now the cheating has not been taken care of by the justice of the honor system. There is no foreseeable remedy for such behavior, and there will always be a “bad apple to ruin the bunch.”

Honor, by all means, is a virtue. Since ancient times, humans have recognized honor as being worthy of emulation. In modern times, however, humans have used honor to take advantage of other people for their gains, which is why our country is deprived of such virtue. Honor isn’t something that can be bought, sold, or traded. Rather, it is gained through respect while determining the hierarchy of an individual and revealing their loyalty and intentions. Therefore, I am deeply honored to be among the exemplary students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. I am deeply honored to be among the exemplary students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. I must admit this is what I’ve been looking forward to since the start of my high school career. On October 17th, 2015, during my regular chemistry lecture I made a mistake of violating the University of Texas at Arlington’s Integrity Code of Honor through taking an impulsive step of submitting another student quiz during his absence in the class. In this reflective essay I will answer all the question asked by the Office of Student conduct in each paragraphs respectively.
