Applying to college can be a daunting experience, particularly for one whose academic career was interrupted during high school. However, it was this interruption, and what followed, that has allowed me to set goals for myself, both academically and professionally. Having been in psychiatric hospitals and dealing with mental health conditions, I have witnessed firsthand how those with mental illnesses and emotional difficulties are among the most underserved in our society. My goal in life is to make a difference to someone that is struggling, much like I have. I plan to reach this goal by earning a degree in psychology, and pursuing a professional career as a mental health counselor. Growing up, I was never really sure what to tell people when they asked what I wanted to do when I was older. Over the years I flip-flopped between a laundry list of possible professions: veterinarian, nurse, EMT, cosmetologist, and many more short-lived dreams. As I grew and learned from my life experiences, I realized …show more content…
I am lucky to have grown up with parents and teachers that instilled in me how important it is to serve others. Ever since I was a young child, I found that nothing was better than the feeling of knowing I made a difference in someone’s life. I consider being raised with empathy and compassion to be one of the greatest blessings I have received. After struggling for such a long time and receiving amazing care and having so many people reach out to me and offer help, I know that I want to do the same. I want to be the person who inspires someone who is suffering to really seek help and to believe they are worthy of it. I want to save lives. The most important thing to me is to become the person that I needed so badly during the worst time of my life; to be person that pulls someone up from rock bottom, instead of letting them drown. I will always strive to be a woman for

In my mind, I knew that wasn’t the future job for me. When I was in the third grade, my grandmother had a stroke. Since she had gotten sick, I had to take care of her .This is what persuaded me to become a Registered Nurse.

As a high school student, school was not my best interest. Yes, i can say that i was interested and determined to get done with my high school year and go to college and continue to persuade my dream in either becoming a cosmetologist or become in the culinary fields, but that didn’t go as planned. As the days go by everything becomes a challenge, School work gets harder along with the classes, also understanding everything that you learn even gets harder. Most people
Growing up the main question a child is asked is, “What do you want to be when you grow up? “ , and most kids respond saying a doctor, lawyer, or a cop. In reality not everyone sticks to their first idea, and it’s slim that they actual start working in the chosen career. In my case, I have always wanted to work as a social worker or a therapist, but I realized it wasn’t in my budget. Therefore, I have decided; as well as, grew interest in being a dental assistant for a pediatric office.
As a kid, what did you want to do when you grew older? When I was about 8 years old I wanted to be doctor. But as I grew older, I knew fulfilling that dream of mine would not come true. I knew it wouldn’t come true because over the past couple years, I had changed my mind from becoming a doctor to either studying to become a dental assistant or a mechanic. The reason I had changed my mind was because I had became more fascinated in how to improve my hygiene and my fascination with cars.

My commitment to my goal of receiving a Master’s degree in counseling has been demonstrated throughout my studies at Rollins by maintaining a GPA of 4.0, my willingness to support my cohort, and by exhibiting an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Although I had retired on a fixed income from a business career due to a disability, I have confirmed my potential, stamina, and desire to counsel through my volunteer work as a guardian advocate, working with people who suffer from addiction, and by remaining an advocate for the LGBTQ community. I have thrived with my undergraduate internship at the Center for Drug Free Living and with my prepracticum at Centaur.
Cosmetology is the study and application of beauty treatment. Branches of specialty includes hairstyling, skin care, cosmetics, manicures/pedicures. And a Fine Artists are artists that include painters, sculptors, and illustrators. In fine arts I would be doing painting/ body painting. For schooling I would love to go to University of Arizona or Eastern Arizona Collage. I have wanted to go to U of Arizona since I was 10. Eastern Arizona Collage offers the cosmetology class I need and University of Arizona has the Fine arts class I need. A lot of people have an interest in arts or something of the field. But the whole arts, makeup, and hair has been my escape from reality when ever I'm having a hard time at school or even in life. I've been doing (cutting and coloring) my own hair and doing my own makeup for 4 years. I have done other peoples hair and makeup before and gotten nothing but positive feed back. School will cost money so, I am going to be applying for scholarships.
I am going to be talking about,"Why i want to become a cosmetologist." I also will be explaining what i would love to learn. As a little girl,i always was interested in hair and make-up.I think to become a cosmetologist you have to really be interested in doing it.
Cosmetology has always been an interest to me. I have been very passionate to all things relating to beauty. It fascinates me the many things that you can do with just a few tools. One of Cosmetologist goals are to make people feel confidante and happy with themselves. I love helping people and this field lets me do that while focusing on something I love to do.
When I turned 38-years-old I wanted to make a change in my life. I was tired of working jobs that had me living from paycheck to paycheck. The only option I saw was to return to school to get some sort of formal training. I did not want to spend years in college, so I decided to go to a trade school. After some research, I became intrigued with the field of cosmetology. I liked the possibility of someday going into business for myself. I went for an orientation at a local beauty school, and I was sold on being able to complete the program in a year. I was overjoyed thinking that I would be soon be putting all those dead end jobs behind me. I thought becoming a cosmetologist would be life changing, and it would be, but not the way I envisioned.
When you graduate high school most of us look forward to going to college and starting a new chapter in our lives. There are many choices of fields to choose from when we enter college. Some of us know right from the start what we want to do and some of us don’t. I have had many ideas of what I might want to pick as my career for the rest of my life. It first started out with wanting to be a teacher, and then it changed to a veterinary technician, and finally with lots of thought and research I have decided I want to be a Respiratory Therapist.
I have always wanted to be the person others look to when they feel scared or vulnerable. In return for that trust, I have put enormous effort into helping people who seek me out identify their best options for the future. Not until I encountered life in all its confusing, brutal truth, however, did I realize I wanted to occupy that advisor’s role as a professional. My aim in applying to Northwestern is to become a licensed professional counselor in my home state of Wisconsin so that I can help young people tackle everyday problems, learn life skills, and ultimately, be the best people they can be. Ultimately, my goal is to complete a doctorate in counseling psychology, from University of Wisconsin-Madison in particular, after completion of my master’s degree while gaining vital work experience in my field and to use my expertise to train other aspiring professionals in my field.
