I chose to attend Xavier University, quite honestly, because Xavier offered to pay my way through school. The full-ride offer and being rejected by my top-choice university was what landed me at Xavier. I honestly thought that Xavier was one of the last places that I'd end up; nonetheless, I accepted it as my next school and was eager to get work on furthering my education. Once I realized that I would not be able to go to my top school, University of California at Berkeley, I realized that Xavier was going to be my stepping stone. My mentality was and still is that if I stay focused, work hard, and handle my business, that I will be able to get into Berkeley. I don't look at my position in a negative light at all; I've made relationships with
There was many reasons why I decide to attend college. I am extremely tired of applying for distinctive positions and being rejected for not having a degree. I'm a supervisor now over thirty employees when I see different positions opening in management or higher position. I apply on behalf of the job, gain being interviewed for my experience. Nevertheless, not having a college degree really afflicts me. As a result, I decided to attend college and further my education.
I want to use college as a way to become a better citizen by expanding my perspectives and opinions and providing me with new experiences and opportunities to engage with different people. I believe that Getting a college education will also give me the opportunity to build a better future for me and my family. By studying I hope to learn how I can improve the health of people in the diverse communities surrounding me and work to end the violence found within them.
Choosing to attend college was a difficult choice, my mother is the only person in all of my family to ever attend and graduate college. My father and the rest of my family have all gone into trade work, some of them attending a trade school and some not. While all of my family does well and live a comfortable lifestyle. I have noticed through the years that my mother has always been employed even when others in my family have not and she always seems to have an easier time finding work. This is the main reasons I decided to attend college, with higher education often times comes more job security and stability. I decided to attend CU boulder specifically due to the fact that it is very close to home, as well as the fact that it is a very
Why did I decide to attend college? I chose this path for my life when I was very young, both of my parents attended some form of higher education. They both ended up living fairly well, I decided that I wanted to be successful in life as well and that going to college would be an integral part of my future. I want to be able to live in comfort; be able to be a productive member of my community still, become an adult, and be able to understand things in a new light.
The reason why I want to go to college is that I want to be able to have a successful job or career. Also because someday I want to become a crime scene investigator and a criminal defense attorney to help others in need. Another reason is because I want to become someone important or successful someday because there's a lot of people who say that I'm not going to be good enough or I'm not going to be good at what I want to become and I want to prove them wrong anything is possible as long as you put your all into it. A good way to start fresh in life and leave the old habits behind to become a person I’ve always wanted to be. Make my parents proud since they didn't go to college to get the education they needed and wanted.
Martin Heidegger once wrote, “The possible ranks higher than the actual.” Thinking in terms of possibilities is ultimately, how achievements are made. After the life experiences I have had, this quote resonates with me on a personal level. When I left Colombia for the United States in search of a better life, I lived with my grandparents and was faced with the hardships of learning a new language, new lifestyle, immersing into a new culture, and even making new friends.
As a child I have always wanted to go to college and make something of myself. One of the reasons for this, is I have the possibility to be the first person in my extended family to successfully finish college. While I’m here my main goal will be to keep a 4.0 and staying unstressed. This way I can come up with techniques to keep my GPA up and my stress levels down for the rest of my college career. Though I feel I’ll stay fairly relaxed due to many of my classes being focused around business, which is my major and one of my favorite subjects in school. I plan to pursue a business administration degree, which will take me 4 years to acquire. When I get this degree I want to use it so I can work in a finance bank or a regular bank, but as long as I am able to work with finances I’ll be happy. This is why I am here in college and my plan for the years to come.
We are all puppets controlled by our actions. Words of Bill Gates impacted me when he stated, “If you are born poor it is not your fault, but if you die poor it is your fault.” Some are born in the warmth of wealth while others struggle to make enough to survive. I have learned from my parents never to chase success, but instead, pursue excellence, and success will eventually follow.
After graduating high school from Northside College Prep in 2015, ranked the number one school in the state, I had high hopes of entering straight into a 4-year university and getting the typical college experience. Even though many of my classmates were still unsure of their desired program, I always knew. All throughout high school even, I knew I wanted to pursue criminal justice. What started as an obsession with over-exaggerated TV crime dramas turned into a passion for true crime documentaries and books. Once college admissions were revealed, I was eager to begin my new journey. Although I was lucky enough to be awarded some merit-based scholarships and offered loans, the aid was ultimately not enough for me to attend UIC like I was hoping, and it seemed my dream was just a little farther from my grasp. As much as I wanted to go to college and get a higher education, I knew I realistically could not afford a 4-year university at the time. I decided on registering at my nearby city college, Truman, in hopes of receiving my associates degree first and one day being able to transfer into UIC as I had been hoping. Lucky enough for me, I had someone at home who had gone through a
As a first-year generation college student, transitioning to college my first year was difficult. If it were not for being in a trio a program since middle school, I wouldn’t have known how to prepare for college. This being a huge reason why I desire to join McNair program. McNair would help guide me and get ready for my transition into graduate school. It would allow me to review my options and actually become aware of what are important details to focus on when looking for a graduate school. If I were to be in the McNair program, I would gain valuable skills that would tremendously help my experience at grad school. I would have experience with doing research and also have connections that would help me professionally and in the long run.
For anyone, making the decision to go to college and enroll in a public university can be an overwhelming jump, therefore people generally have different expectations. I moved from San Antonio Texas to attend school in Palm Beach in hopes of forcing myself out of my comfort zone and to further explore who I am. As a college student of Palm Beach Atlantic, I expect to strengthen my relationship with Christ, be successful academically, and continue to work hard contribute to the universities woman’s soccer team. I have high expectations for myself considering this new way of life, and I believe being a student here at Palm Beach will help me grow as a person.
There are several attributes that I look for in a school, kind of like at for shoes or clothes, but in several ways more important. I looked for somewhere where I was comfortable that moment when I walked in I could see myself spending the next four years of my life in that college. When I stepped into Fresno Pacific I felt that feeling I knew this was the school where I wanted to get an education. The idea of attending Fresno Pacific, came before I even stepped on the college; I attended a meeting where one of the Admission Counselors described the culture, the atmosphere and all the activities that go on campus. This gave me an incentive to visit the campus and learn more about it. The moment I stepped in I felt in peace, it was perfect.
For me, high school was a time of self discovery. Prodded with questions about what I wanted to do and where I was going to go to college, I took a wide variety of classes, all at the highest level. I tried computer programming, world history, spanish, and many others. In the end, the first class that kept me endlessly entertained while also posing a significant challenge was Chemistry. After taking Chemistry junior year, I knew my future was in science. So, I took as many science and math classes as I could. I took both Honors Pre-Calc and AP Statistics junior year, and this year along with taking AP Calculus BC I am taking AP Chemistry and Physics.
I have always known I wanted to pursue dance as a career. I do not know if that means opening a dance studio, working professionally or just bettering myself through performing and teaching. All I do know is dance is the best path I know towards the more interesting things life has to offer. I hear a lot of people telling me I will not be able to do it or saying it will be too hard, but that does not deter me. I personally believe at Indiana University, I will be able to thrive. I want to go to college to learn, to meet people, and have an experience I could not get elsewhere. Indiana is that place for me. The sense of community and loyalty I have seen. personally, in Indiana’s alumni astounds me. Indiana has a reputation of being a phenomenal
This is very intimidating for a single mother to write her first award winning scholarship essay. Someone like myself who has overcome numerous obstacles and hurdles in my life; this is truly one of the most unnerved. Nonetheless, I have declared that it is never too late to want a better future and to become the best of you for you. Growing up in a state where education was not the highest ranked in the nation. Young adults were expected to go into the military or get married after high school. College was never a priority in my community. Actuality, extremely naïve, I didn’t think I would need to go to college. I decided to get married and have a family. Looking back on my decision, I should have chosen college.
