For me, high school was a time of self discovery. Prodded with questions about what I wanted to do and where I was going to go to college, I took a wide variety of classes, all at the highest level. I tried computer programming, world history, spanish, and many others. In the end, the first class that kept me endlessly entertained while also posing a significant challenge was Chemistry. After taking Chemistry junior year, I knew my future was in science. So, I took as many science and math classes as I could. I took both Honors Pre-Calc and AP Statistics junior year, and this year along with taking AP Calculus BC I am taking AP Chemistry and Physics. After narrowing the field down to science, I faced a new problem. Science is just a broad
I was born and raised in India. Moved to U.S to go to High School and since then living here in Seattle. I am currently student at University of Washington finishing up my Bachelors in Biology and Health Studies. Recently I decided to go to nursing program so therefore I am here at Cascadia finishing up my pre requisites. I grew up back home in India with my grandparents, uncles, and aunts while my parents were here in U.S. Most of my schooling was done in boarding school so I was very independent from the beginning. My love for travelling gave me opportunity to visit England and Dubai for several years before finally moving here with my parents.
I have always encouraged people to dream, but to remember that when you are dreaming, your eyes are closed so you must open your eyes and begin to live your dreams. You cannot live your life of passion while you are asleep.
I would like to attend college because I thoroughly enjoy learning. I take great pride in my education; as a women in the twenty-first century, I am going to take advantage of the opportunities I have and educate myself as much as possible. Obtaining a college degree is also essential to thrive in the industry I would like to be involved in after college, the fashion business industry. I selected my major, business administration because I have curated and ran an online store since I was thirteen. I enjoyed the experience so much that I made the decision to pursue it as a career and not just a hobby.
Media surrounds us, from the graphic design on our morning cellophane coffee cups, to the carefully designed spreads in the magazines we religiously read. The world of Media and Film is beautifully complex, and something which I strongly want to be involved with. I have always immersed myself in the world of Media, and have only ever felt truly satisfied when I’ve been involved in broadening my knowledge and understanding of the industry.
I would like to attend college because I want to be successful in life, I understand it is getting harder to get a job with only a high school diploma and it is sure to get worse. My goals for the future include getting into a college with a good teaching and mathematics program, this could give me a variety of jobs and I was speaking to someone and they told me that people are looking out for women who have a degree in mathematics which will help me to obtain a good paying job.
Sunday comes again, and it's finally time to continue the weekly interviews with my grandpa. Before we began the interview, he showed me an in-depth family tree that a relative of ours had put together for our family. Being the tech savvy person that I am, I show him how to navigate around the application of our family tree. Then we began talking about our topic, fear.
The answer to this question is challenging to me because having two diplomas in higher education quite challenging to answer “Why do you want to go to college?” Trying to apply this question to the UoPeople and paraphrasing it as “Why do you want to go to the UoPeople,” I meet another issue. I have already responded to this question in the Discussion Forum.
As a first generation student, academic promise hasn’t always been a focus of mine until my high school years. Coming from a family where the only post-high school education is whatever training you receive at work, it is hard to relate when the possibility of university is so far away. Four years after high school, I have not only worked full time but also received my associates degree from my hometown community college. That is all great thanks to the family that have raised me, and taught me that hard work is the only work capable of doing. My parents never had the opportunity to attend college, so they taught me what they knew in life instead; where manners are always required, hard work is mandatory, and when finished with that work; you
The Rural Alaska Honors Institute (RAHI) is a very helpful program for me to become involved in, especially since I plan on going to college after high school to better my education and to shape my future. Since RAHI is at the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF), and I am attending UAF in the fall this year, majoring in Geoscience, it will help me get the feel of college and give me the experience I need. This program is something that interests me a lot and I will get to meet new people who I might be going to college with.
I dream of becoming the first person in my family to graduate from college and making my family proud. I dream of seeing myself as someone who loves their job as well as someone who is knowledgeable in their field. I want to be someone who people look to for help or advice when it comes to College or the field of Forensic Sciences.
From a young age, I’ve always known I wanted to attend college. To pursue what intrigues me and to study what I’m passionate about sounds like an opportunity I just cannot pass up. I have always enjoyed going to school and learning new subjects year after year, each year, giving a deeper understanding of the topics given to me. College would assist in broadening my horizons, finding new experiences, and deepening my roots in education.
My father retired one year ago, and It has been difficult for my two other siblings In MED school. College tuition took a big part of my family’s usual conversation, I grew up knowing that there will be a problem with me attending college, and that my family could probably not afford it. My family gives me great support, and they are working hard to try and start paying for not only one or two but for three college tuitions.
My first choice college was the University of Connecticut. But, I was not admitted to the main campus. I then made the choice to attend [current college] over UConn’s Stamford campus.
Everyone has different intentions for going to college, I chose to attend in order to advance and gain new skills, to experience the college life, and discover God’s plan for my life.
After graduating high school from Northside College Prep in 2015, ranked the number one school in the state, I had high hopes of entering straight into a 4-year university and getting the typical college experience. Even though many of my classmates were still unsure of their desired program, I always knew. All throughout high school even, I knew I wanted to pursue criminal justice. What started as an obsession with over-exaggerated TV crime dramas turned into a passion for true crime documentaries and books. Once college admissions were revealed, I was eager to begin my new journey. Although I was lucky enough to be awarded some merit-based scholarships and offered loans, the aid was ultimately not enough for me to attend UIC like I was hoping, and it seemed my dream was just a little farther from my grasp. As much as I wanted to go to college and get a higher education, I knew I realistically could not afford a 4-year university at the time. I decided on registering at my nearby city college, Truman, in hopes of receiving my associates degree first and one day being able to transfer into UIC as I had been hoping. Lucky enough for me, I had someone at home who had gone through a
