There are several reasons why I decided to take Honors English, but I'll start with the one that is the most important to me, and that is college. College is something that is very important to me, and I want to be prepared for it. When I graduate I plan to attend a school out of state or preferably study abroad, possibly Germany. Unfortunately universities tend to be very expensive, especially if it is not in the state you live in. In order for me to be accepted into a top school I will need scholarships, good grades, and an impressive transcript. By taking this honors English course I hope to increase my chances at achieving my goals. The second reason I chose to take World Literature is because I have always enjoyed the reading and creative
I believe that I should be in English 9 honors for freshman year. I think this because I have worked really hard to get where I am in school and think that I can only improve. Honors English is a challenge I would like to work for. This year most of my grades in ELA have been 3.5s although there are people that get better grades I am willing to improve and push to be in a high level class. I would like to push to the best of my abilities in high school and work hard and being in an honors class would let me be able to do that. The work load will not bother me because I believe it is worth it. In high school I would like to challenge myself in ways I never got to in middle school. I am looking to learn at a faster pace than I have been learning
Dear to whom it may concern, I would love to be in Honors English 2 (10th) and Honors World History (10th) as they are my two favorite subjects and I am the most passionate about them. I am currently in Humanities Academy as a freshman and my goal is to keep up the challenging classes because not only do I love to be challenged, but these subjects make me excited to learn. School comes very easy to me and I love to learn so much, so I know I can handle the tasks thrown my way during these courses. My personal goals I wish to achieve are to keep improving my strengths and making sure I am learning to my fullest abilities. Ever since I was a little girl, I have always said I want to be a famous author when I grow up. Now as I am getting older,
I have been told that I need to write a 1000 word essay on disrespecting a Non Commissioned Officer. But it is really hard to write about this because I am having a hard time wondering how I disrespected them. So, where do I start on this and what do I say about it. As far as this essay goes I am just going to write how I feel about respect and how respect works both ways. It is wrong to disrespect a Non Commissioned Officer because they are appointed above me to guide me to the right place and things to do. But it is really hard to respect someone when they do not respect you. Respect works both ways and if that person or leadership does not respect you trying to respect them is difficult. No matter what is said it is disrespect.
When I was in high school, I wished I was one of the top students in class. And when I saw the top students get awards in my senior graduation, I felt a surge of humiliating emotions – a feeling that I will never forget. I wanted to do it – I wanted to get that award, but I couldn’t. But now, since I can start fresh in college, taking honors college is going to help me get the highest distinction, the thing I couldn’t do when I was in high school. Following my passion will also lead me to stronger sense of the world and how I belong into it and why I am doing what I am. I will also basically have a deeper understanding of myself and the world by being in Honors college.
Being in an advanced class such as honors will make me push and strive more for my goals.
Taking an AP English class may sound like a hassle especially if after school activities or jobs take up the majority of the time. It is worth taking a class that will bring rewards in the future. When I was in a normal English class, I felt bored out of my mind. It was not because of the teacher or because of my peers, it was about what I was being taught. Everything was being taught at such a slow pace that it was becoming dull.
When I started the English Composition course I expected an entirely different type of writing. I expected more of a story telling writing, novelist, story and screenplay writing. To my surprise, it was a different world of grammar, style, voice, sentence mechanics and structure guidelines. I was afraid of something new and challenging. I expected more of a three act structure to write a novel or a short story but the course was different. Different in a helpful way that it opened my eyes to how the overall writing process works.
First, the academics. I have always enjoyed learning new things from many areas. This is what spurred me to take a variety of advanced classes in high school in many subject areas. Having the wide knowledge base and a varied array of perspectives is critical to understanding new concepts or solving problems, whether one’s at school or solving real-world problems. Thus, the interdisciplinary approach of the Honors College is essential to me in my education experience. And, of course, some of the more tangible aspects of the Honors College experience appealed to me as well. The access to personal priority registration, career path advice, mentoring and advising all will give me the opportunities to ensure my life in and beyond school will run smoothly.
My choice for my English and History selection for my senior year would be Honors English and Honors History. If I could only select one honors course I would take Honors English over Honors History. I would choose Honors English over Honors History because I learn a lot and absorb a lot from the in class discussions about our reading, and while I might not always be the most vocal person in class, I learn a lot from what others are saying, and I want to be around people who are equally as invested in the class and the reading. While there would also be a higher quality of discussion in an Honors History course, I feel as if I would learn more from the discussions in an Honors English class compared to a standard English class, than an Honors
I am a journalism major with a focus in public relations and a minor in marketing therefore I believe the Honors college will enhance my academic experience at Georgia State by allowing me to develop my people skills as well as my personal professional development. The honors college programs do not only provide rigorous academic programs for strong individuals to constantly feel challenged but it also provides guidance to develop individual professionalism ,and I believe both would allow me to grow as a journalism major. In addition, I know the amazing staff that the honors college provides would help me maintain my focus and personal development all four years of my undergraduate studies.
I chose to study ENG4U in summer school in order to balance out the heavy workload during my grade 12 year. By balancing out my workload, it enables me to manage my time better and ultimately allowing me to put more focus on my academically challenging courses such as SPH4U and MCV4U. Additionally, since I’d always had an intense passion for computing technologies, I needed a consistent amount of free time every week to participate in Computer Club and prepare for Waterloo’s challenging competitions. Besides freeing up time for clubs, it also gave me time to regularly exercise at the gym in order to improve my
The first rule is respect for others. A few of those “others” are teachers, police, authority figures, and business people. Respect
The English language is particularly complex in almost all aspects. Many of the words in the English language have different meanings for the same word. This is not unlike the definition of the different levels of usage. McCrimmon defines the three levels, formal, moderate, and colloquial, by their sentence structure, diction, and tone (McCrimmon 193). ¹ Using McCrimmon’s definitions, authors can determine what type of writing is applicable to each of the three levels. For the formal writings, an adequate example of where readers can find it is in a professional journal, and an appropriate place to find an example of the moderate level is in a weekly news magazine. Also, the best place to look for an example of the colloquial level is in certain sections of the newspaper. All of the levels of usage apply to these different types of writings and assist in defining what each level involves.
I have decided to pursue post-secondary education for various reasons. For instance, I am interested in particular subjects, such as Business and Applied Sciences, and would love to be able to study within these faculties while learning about something that captures my interest. I feel that by attending post-secondary, selecting and building a career would be much easier. After receiving a degree, chances of obtaining a good job with a well-established company will be greater and I hope to one day work as a software engineer for a major company such as Google or Microsoft. Another reason I wish to attend post-secondary is because I wish to help make a change in our world one day. Attending post-secondary will help me gain the knowledge and
What motivates me as a student is having the opportunity to be a part of a program that allows underserved students to access rigorous courses in order to prepare them for the Honors College as well as giving them the support and mentorship needed to be successful at UMass Amherst. Although I was not originally accepted into the Honors College I feel that I would fit right into the Emerging Scholars Program and be able to transition into the Honors College. The thought of having academic support, challenging classes, and being more active on campus excites me as a student. I believe as a highly motivated student I should be granted the opportunity to continue and work on my leadership skills through the thought and action of a diverse and inclusive
