Why Do People Still Read Shakespeare

There are those who associate Shakespeare with elevated social status and feel that Shakespeare is no longer relevant to a broad audience and therefore should not be taught. In addition in a world where composition is diminishing as technology becomes more prominent, they believe that Shakespeare is less important. These ideas are flawed as Shakespeare continues to be relevant intellectually, emotionally and most importantly culturally. Shakespeare should continue to be required reading.

When looking at the today, Shakespeare’s memory has lasted for less than 500 years, and is still likely to last because of his great works, and the movies and books depicting his work. The movies of his plays, and the book full of all of his plays. “Shakespeare’s work was performed throughout the next hundred years as his fame and reputation grew throughout the country.” Although we may not know how long his influence and memory will last exactly, it’ll get really hard to forget someone who introduced so many words to the English language and so many good works to enjoy in many different forms. To read or not to read that’s the question? Shakespeare is being taught all over the world, it’s being taught in 9th grade all the way up to 12th grade. Shakespeare should not be taught in the ninth grade curriculum because it's too hard to teach; also its very difficult to understand, last it's not even relatable to today's youth. That why I think Shakespeare shouldn't be taught in school.

He was a play writer, actor, and poet in the Elizabethan era, and is mostly known for the plays “Hamlet”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Othello”, and “Macbeth”, some of which are seen as the finest works in history. His birthdate is unknown but he was baptised on the 26th of April 1564, and therefore the 23rd of April 1564 is commonly used as his birthdate, but that is just a qualified guess. Shakespeare shaped the English language in inexplicable ways but I am going to try anyway.

Throughout his time, he has written a total of 884,647 words and 118,406 lines. Not to mention, Shakespeare was not only a poet, but he invented some words like amazement, bedroom, champion, dawn, eyeball, and fashionable. Never the less should he still be in the classrooms in the 21st century that would be believed to be a negative; Shakespeare no longer belongs to be in the class room of grades 9 to 12. When teachers tell their class that they will be reading Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, etc. nobody is jumping for joy. Most of the children in the class is bored out of their minds nobody understands Shakespeare anymore.
