Six-hour workdays have a good imapct to a small amount of people. It has some good impacts such as more productivity and shorter work days. The impact it would have in reality would be far worse, than a positive change. In the article explaining why shorter workdays cause issuse, it states that because of every worker working harder and faster to keep up with buisness requirements, it is causing the workers to become sick. The reasoning is for the two hours you dont have to work, you have to push your body to another level to get the two hours caught back up too. The standard eight-hour working day fits for every job, from personal knowledge of being a construction worker. If i had to do a job in one work day, with a full eight-hours that gives me enough time too fully complete everything with no rush or breaking my back more than i would. Imagine if i had a six-hour work day to finish my job, not only am i short two hours, im losing out on two-hours worth of pay. In a week, if i lose two-hours a day of pay thats around 8 hours lost. Another thing to note is that, also 8 hours worth of work time that could of been used to make sure everything was done correct and up too code. …show more content…
This six-hour work day can help with the time needed to wake up and become ready for your day. What i know from these articles is that each have valid points of the reasoning of why and why they should not have six-hour work days. The information given in the first artcile had proof and evidence of why it was a good idea. Dispite the evidence and facts if you have ever worked a job that requires your full eight-hours, and your life matter on those extra two-hours a day. Then article two has the best reasoning and understanding of how important those hours
Times have changed since 1914 and we are still having issuses when it comes to the work environment. Both articles have made strong arguments; on what would be the best solution and how it would benfit not only the workers but the employers as well. However I agree that six hour days would not work. Either the workers lose two hour wages everyday or the employers hire more wokers for the jobs that are not being done due to only having six hours. All of the employees that they are forced to hire would not get a quarter of their pay because they are not full time. The people that only work the six hours would not be able to get health plans the full time workers are entitled to. Not having health care is stressful; that is living with the worry
A woman of 1920 would be surprised to know that she would be remembered as a "new woman." Significant changes for women took place in politics, at home, in workplace, and in education.
I think that the United States could go to the six hour work day. People in the past have done it and it was a huge success. During the Industrial Revolution people had to work 11-12 hours each day with little pay. Later on in the 1900s, Henry Ford changed the work hours for his employees and they showed great amounts of success. Ford doubled their pay and they did the work 2 times faster and more efficiently.
Many studies in recent years have shown that most people do their best thinking in late morning and late afternoon, and don't become fully alert until about four hours after waking. Other studies have shown that many people have only a 90-120 minute attention span for a particular task, needing multiple breaks to be at top efficiency. All of these factors make it very difficult to have eight hour workdays, while also giving workers much needed recharging time, family time, and enough sleeping hours.
The reading states that the conversion from 5-day workweek to 4-day workweek offers numerous benefits to both businesses and employees and should be seriously considered and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor states that the benefits do not justify this dramatic change and refutes each of the authors' reasons.
According to the passage, I believe it is important to work six hours a day with the appropiate break time. It will reduce stress and fatigue as well. It is also, healthier for our
The 4 day work week is not a new idea. It is one that has had its share of controversies over the years. Introduced in the 1970’s the idea of the 4 days work week has been making a comeback as of lately. There are several issues to look at here. One of the main statements in regards to it is that productivity will decrease because of fatigue. A 10 hour work day is too long. On the flipside, another of the main issues pointed out by proponents is that productivity will increase because you will have a workforce with higher morale. In this paper, we will discuss
While there are upsides to employers offing a four day work schedule there are also draw backs that many employers face as well. Many employees use their extra day off every week to work a second job. Often times when this happens the employee returns to work more tired and run down then they would if they were working a standard five day work schedule Thank God it’s Thursday? 74). Returning to work being more run down will cause a decrease in productivity. It has also been found that a large number of people who do work a four day work week report being more tired and fatigued throughout the day and tend to become more distracted than do employees who work a more traditional schedule (Bird 1067). This increased tiredness and fatigue will ultimately lead to a decrease in production.
Working eight hours a day is what makes a living for the workers. When you were little how long would you go to school for? I, personally, would go to school for eight hours a day, Monday through Friday. Teachers would always tell students they're preparing them for the future. Well, this is it.
According to the first article, A Six-Hour Workday Is Planty, employees started working eight hour shifts in 1914. That was over a 100 years ago, times were different compared to how the workplace is now. To consider changing an eight hour workday to only six hours would be a huge step. This could be either a step forward, or quite possibly a step backward. Although there are various amounts of benefits that come with a six our workday, there are also plenty of drawbacks.
Some people may say working six-hour shifts is better, simply because workers have more energy. But having an eight-hour shift isn't a big differnce and workers do get 10-20 minute breaks to recharge. Working an eight hour shift could be a little tiring but the money you make is much better than that of a six-hour shift. This is why we should keep the standard work day at eight
If we moved to a 6 hour work day from an 8 hour work day companys would face many issues. They would have to determine if they are still about to cover the employees for health insurance, would wages stay the same, and would they reqiure more workers to do
On average most children go to school for 7-8 hours. For 18 years of their life they are use to a shedule that fits with the average day of work, preparing them for adulthood. I believe that both Sides have strong points, but that eight hour work days are fair and can acomadate the average workers needs.
My position on the issue of whether or not a six-hour workday should become standard in the United States is divided, yet certain. Suprisingly , a six-hour work day is likely to be more than productive than an eight-hour day. Most people do thier thinking in late morning and late afternoon . We need time to wind up ,and wind down . Eliminating the first early hours of the common workday may result in similar improvement in the workplace. Most people can only focus on a task for 90-120 minutes at a time . Then workers must break to regroup. The biggest mark about reducing the hours in a workday is that asking employees to work a eight -hour workday is fair. I agree. The economic cost of six-hour wordays is prohibitive . Either workers or the
If you are working at a job you should be completing all the tasks that your boss or supervisor has giving you. There are 24 hours in a day. Most jobs should have people working at least 10 hours a day. People go to work to support themselves, their families, and their bills. Having a six hour work day is not long enough because you can't really accomplish much in such short time.
