Why Did The Russo-Japanese War Happened?

In the February 8th 1904, there was a war against Russia and Japan which was called the Russo-Japanese War. The war was fought between the Japanese army and navy and the Russians. The battles were fought mostly on the right and bottom side of Russia. But, three battles had happen in North Korea. They fought because they wanted imperial power to expand its empire overseas. Also, they wanted to be known as part of the Western Powers. So, Japan started a fight with Russia to show how great they are. The Russo-Japanese War has showed Japan’s army and navy had complete dominance over than Russia’s.

“ This showed dominance over Russia because Japan was smart enough to attack before a declaration of war which surprised the Russians. Even when the Russians knew they were getting attacked, Japan’s navy had already struck two of their ships with torpedoes. Another reason why Japan showed dominance over Russia in the battle of Port Arthur was because, Japan set upped an attack against Russia in Port Arthur so they couldn’t use Port Arthur at all. Like in a text by History.com it says, ”Treaty of Portsmouth—signed in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in August 1905—control of Port Arthur and the surrounding region was transferred to the Japanese. (Japanese capture Russian naval base at Port Arthur, 2009)” This showed dominance over Japan because, they controlled Port Arthur by attacking the place with an army and not a navy. The last reason Japan had complete dominance over Russia in the Battle of Port Arthur was because of Russia’s mistake. The Battle of Mukden was the last land battle of the Russo-Japanese war. After the defeat at Liaoyang, General Alexei Kuropatkin regrouped in Mukden. But, because of Japan’s victory over Port Arthur, Japan were able to redeploy their third army which was able to beat Russia’s army. Japan had dominance over Russia in the Battle of Mukden, because of their win in Port Arthur. In a text by Britannica, they said, “With their victory at the Battle of Port Arthur at the start of the new year, the Japanese were able to redeploy their Third Army to join Field Marshal Oyama Iwao’s advance, swelling his force to a similar size (Bunting, 2018).” This means that they had extra army to fight with because, of their win in Port Arthur. Another reason that Japan had dominance was because, of Russia’s turmoil. Like in a text by Warfare History Network, it says, “Now Russia was facing increasing domestic turmoil at home, which threatened not only to derail the war effort but possibly to topple the monarchy itself (Ciotola, 2016).” This means that the turmoil in Russia was preventing war efforts in the battle. The last reason why Japan had total dominance of Russia in Mukden was because, they had to escape the battle.
