In my opinion, the South wasn't to blame for the civil war. It was actually the North that was to blame. The Election in 1860, caused the Civil war. The first reason was that Lincoln won the election. Abraham Lincoln won the election vote which infuriated the south. They also heard that Lincoln was about to abolish slavery. This caused the Southerners wanting to rebel and be independent even more. The North was economically strong. They wanted to abolish slavery because they thought that all people regardless of skin color, race or religion is right. The South believed he was pro anti-slavery. Lincoln believed that every “black” man should be free. Lincoln wanted to put an end to slavery during that time period. The South did not want
The civil war was drastic event that was caused not just by one simple action. It was the product of a snowball effect from multiple disagreements and differences between the North and South. The region's, railroads, and slavery are some of the roles played in causing the civil war from 1861-1865.
Have you ever wondered what Texans did for the South in the Civil War? In the first place, the Civil War was fought between the North(Union) and the South(Confederacy). The Civil War killed a huge amount of soldiers. Approximately 620,000 soldiers died from fighting, starvation, and diseases.
I think the southern states states seceded (withdrew) from the Union , which lead to the American Civil War because the northern states had more factories, the northern states had a more effective and permanent way to make money than the southern states, and also the north had faster transportation than the south. The first reason as to why i think the southern states seceded from the Union, which lead to the american
If asking an average person on what started the Civil War, one would probably answer with slavery. However, there were several other reasons for why the Civil War took place. The South wanted to succeed mainly for the same reason the Colonies succeeded from British Powers. The South wanted their independence. The South wanted to escape the tariffs that were being placed on them by Andrew Jackson, just as the British were putting tariffs on the colonies. The tariffs created a very hostile atmosphere that was pushing the states’ decisions to secede from the Union. These tariffs would reduce the amount of money the South could take in, because foreign countries could not afford to buy much cotton because lack of their exported income from the tariffs. Vice President, John Calhoun proposed that the states have the right to nullify a federal law that not only can protect the welfare of the states but it also violated the Constitution. Once Calhoun proposed this nullification, to the South it became clear that the North could wield power that could damage the South’s economy. The South believed that they were fighting against a tyrannical government that the North were subjugating and enslaving them. The South really disliked the high taxes, which isn’t it one of the main reasons that our previous generations fought against in the Revolutionary
The institution of slavery swiftly divided the Americans eventually causing the Civil War. Since the founding of the colonies, the southern colonies drastically differed from its New England neighbors. For example, South Carolina divided because the southern region exploited slavery for the production of cash crops, such as tobacco and sugar while the northern region held different political beliefs and specialized in lumber for ship making. Eventually, this division led to the creation of two new states—North and South Carolina. Similarly, slavery worsened this divide among Americans eventually causing the creation of two new nations—The Union and the Confederacy. Both sides held opposing beliefs and because neither would succumb, the method
One of the key factor contributing to the Civil War was States Rights. This refers to the struggle between federal government and individual states over political power. One side argued for greater state’s rights and those arguing felt that the Federal Government needed to have more control over states. The states felt they should have the right to decide if they were willing to accept certain federal acts. Meaning that states had the right to rule federal acts unconstitutional. The federal government denied states this right. When nullification would not work and states felts that they were no longer respected, they moved towards secession from the Union. The southern people were viewed as democratic and depended slaves for the plantations, they were devoted to agriculture and shipped cotton up north and favored low tariffs.
In my opinion, the main cause the civil war is the Economic Factors. As a popular saying goes: interests above everything else. In my opinion, the slave was the most important for the South, because the South was the farmers plantation economy, they need a lot of slaves. When the North and Lincoln against the slavery and wanted to abolish, exactly, which will threaten the South benefits. Maybe there were not any good ways to solve the South difficult rather than war. Basically, there is nobody want to war, sometimes war can solve many difficulty problems deeply. Obviously, the US Civil War was the elimination of slavery, emancipation of slaves and makes America from division to unity. Everything has two sides. If you have seen the film called Saving Private Ryan. You will know war is horrible. In this movie, soldiers died by bomb or killed by the enemy. The river became red by their blood. War is evil. What I want say is if there is good way to solve problem than war, absolutely, we will not choose war. War is a sharp way to solve every problems, war just causes more problems to civilian, every sensible person knows that, I guess that means
The Civil War was caused by the idea of States’ rights, the hypocrisy of the United States in its celebration of ‘Independence Day’ while slavery existed, and the election of President Abraham Lincoln.
The civil war was mainly sparked by tensions between the north and the south. Both sides rarely agreed on topics and could never make a compromise. Slavery was a big reason for the start of the civil war, but the causes don’t end there. Although some may say that political or economic reasons started the civil war between the north and the south, political reasons were the real cause. This is because of important decisions made by the government, and the south seceding.
Slavery was the most important cause of the Civil War, because this single issue divided the North and South to begin with. The ideological differences between the North and South led to economic differences, conflicts over newly acquired territories, disputes over the constitution, and political extremism. The Election of 1860 was the culmination of these disputes and caused the South to secede in 1861 and guided the way towards the Civil War.
The final cause leading to the Civil War was Abraham Lincoln’s election. Lincoln in truth fought for and against slavery depending on the situation. However, Southerners strongly believed Lincoln was anti-slavery. So before Lincoln even entered the office seven states had already seceded. These states included the following: South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. Lincoln was moderate towards slavery at first, but many congressmen agreed that the South was becoming too strong and slavery should not be
I believe that slavery was not the core cause of the Civil War but rather the core cause was the vastly different belief systems and life styles of the North and South. Slavery was a symptom to the overall problem, so it received credit for the start of the Civil War. If Slavery had been the root cause, the south would not have seceded when Abraham Lincoln was elected. Lincoln made it very clear in his campaign and his presidency that his only concern was to preserve the Union and if slavery could preserve the union then so be it. Slavery was not threatened by Lincoln being in office but it also would not expand. The south seceded when the opposite party, who had different beliefs in how the government and nation should be ran, was elected
The Civil War was all the Northern States’ fault. The “issue” of slavery should not have bothered them in the first place. If someone had a problem with slavery the solution was simple: don’t own slaves. Instead, they tried meddling with slavery which lead to the Southern States’ secession and eventually, the Civil War.
The Civil War happened due to the many differences between the North and the South. For example economic, social, cultural and political differences. These all helped lead America to a Civil War. But to an extent, the most important cause was the fact there were many disagreements with states' rights versus federal rights.
Slavery, as Abraham Lincoln often noted, was the root cause of the Civil War. Tensions over slavery dated back to the contradictory nature of the American Revolution of 1776 that resulted in a republic simultaneously committed to freedom for whites and bondage for blacks (Barney W., p. 61). Within years North and South reached the point at which compromise was not possible. At that time Civil War had been started.
