Whitsett, North Carolina is a town that many have never heard of, yet it is my hometown. Situated in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, Whitsett is located directly between Greensboro and Burlington, North Carolina in eastern Guilford County. Having moved from a house located in the city limits of Greensboro, NC at the age of three, Whitsett is practically all I have ever known as “home.” My parents decided to move to Whitsett because they were able to find a larger and more suitable house with the arrival of my younger brother, Landon, in the year 1999. With almost 19 years having gone by, my family still lives in the same house today. Our house is located in the neighborhood development known as “Stoney Creek.” Importantly, this is the …show more content…
To avoid the confusion and the added explanation, I often tell people I am from Greensboro, NC. Being one of the larger cities in North Carolina, most people can easily recognize this area of the state, even if they are from other parts of the country. For instance, those who are college basketball fans are often familiar with Greensboro as it hosted the ACC tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum for multiple years. Though it is not being totally honest with others, it is not as far-fetched as it may appear. By car, it takes me less than five minutes to get to city limits and roughly twenty minutes to get to the heart of downtown Greensboro. My high school even had a Greensboro address, despite being out in the county. With a total land mass of 2.8 miles, Whitsett does not have a single school bearing its town name. For all intents and purposes, Whitsett is a suburb of Greensboro. Though I have close ties to Greensboro, I feel I ultimately experience a sense of misidentification. I have to constantly misidentify where I am from for others to gain a relative understanding of where I have spent practically the entirety of my life. In many ways, Whitsett does not feel like much of a place if you are having to constantly remind others that is, in fact, real and that it is a little town outside of

Cathay Williams, born into slavery in Independence, Missouri in September of 1844, was determined to become more than a house slave. In 1861, the Union Forces captured slaves as “contraband” and forced them to serve the military in roles such as cooks, laundresses, or nurses (“Cathay Williams”, n.d.). At the age of 17, Cathay was forced to serve the 8th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment where she travelled alongside the Soldiers to Arkansas, Louisiana, and Georgia. It is believed when Cathay was in Little Rock, Arkansas; she came across African-American Soldiers that influenced her decision to become a Soldier. On 15 November 1866 (at the age of 22), Cathay Williams commenced her ruse of enlisting into the Regular Army as William Cathay for three

Tanner Wulkoff was born into a family of five. He found his life dull and difficult with his kinfolk and instead chose to live in exile at his grandparents' house. This may be surprising, but it becomes more understandable when you learn of his siblings. Reese and Timmy are troublesome twins. Growing up, Tanner was constantly mocked and pushed around by the terrible toddlers. His father dissaproved of his desicion to dye his hair and play computer games and instead believed Tanner should play sports. He allowed them to walk all over him due to his unconditional love for his family. However, when Tanner turned 11 years old, he had enough of his siblings' abuse. For the first time in his life, Tanner took a stand- he fled to his grandparents house in the small town of Lanesville. Together, him and his grandparents had many life- changing experieances together. They went shopping at ungodly hours, witnessed the Tractor Supply Store burn to ashes, and watched late-night reruns of "Annoying Orange" and his favorite, "Uncle Grandpa". He enjoys the peaceful and secluded aura of Lanesville. Every

As you enter Brett whiteleys studio in Sydney you are overwhelmed with his experinces and feel as if you are standing in whiteleys imagination. The high white and wide spread room creates a blank canvas like space, and the opportunity to take a journey with the artworks like whitely would have travelled creating them. You can feel the intamiacy and heart, put into in the artworks as you step into not only his gallery but his home showing art was truly his life. Studio walls covered in quotes, photographs and sovenirs scattered along to bookshelf and you discover that you are experiencing what influenced and inspired whitely in creation of the series “other places”
At the ending of 2064, the war between Minnesota and Wisconsin had finished with a very bad ending. The war had destroyed everything and families were left with nothing. Everyone struggled for their survival. Other states did not want to be involved in their crisis, so they left them all helpless. Since everyone had lost everything they had owned, they had to start over and relocate. If they start from where they had ended, it'll be extremely tough. Everything had changed and nothing was the same. As a result of the war, this is how the society of Swynhollow came to be.
I feel that we should communicate in person. You can get more detail in person or notice how that person is feeling which you don’t get so much detail over the phone. Plus the internet has had a lot of bad things happen on it over the past few years on email or just social media. Then there is also lots of arguments that start over the internet.
“Never be happy with just good. Every single day, you need to do something to make yourself better than everybody else. That’s the only way we’re going to improve,” said JJ Watt, a NFL player. JJ Watt is a defensive end for the Houston Texans. He is not only a very good football player, he is an amazing person. When Hurricane Harvey hit the Coast of Texas, he spent his time, money, started fundraisers and got other people to help out. This is why Kindred should invite JJ Watt to speak to our community.

Martin Luther King Jr. is considered a hero for his outstanding achievements, noble qualities, and excellent choices. However, one may wonder what are the qualities that create an ordinary hero. The “Whirligig” is a book about a young boy who makes whirligigs and places them in four states of the United States due to his murder of a young girl, Lea. Brent, the young boy, places these whirligigs for Lea’s mother, does this prove him to be a hero?
