Where Men Win Glory is an ironic euphemism for war. The title is ironic because there is nothing glorious about war or the way it ended Pat Tillman’s beautiful life. Jon Krakauer orchestrates this masterpiece with his diligently, articulated descriptions and with a timeline sewn together from the threads of two worlds. The author’s style can best be characterized by his challenging, precise diction and his ability to fluently intervene pertinent quotes and facts that further persuade the reader toward his cause. Throughout the book, the author’s tone harnesses resentment towards the militant hierarchy; for through its ingenuousness, deceit, and manipulation, the military uses Pat’s death as propaganda to bolster the war’s support. …show more content…

Where Men Win Glory epitomizes the ideal environment for a family to thrive and advance. As a child, Pat and his brother were left to their own devices when playing in their expansive backyard. With few TV channels and an infinitesimal media presence, Pat and Kevin experienced a nurturing home that instilled positive virtues and allowed them to grow as human beings from an early age. This enabled them to be who they were – mature, sophisticated, and virtuous human beings. Even with that being said, sometimes one must undergo a momentous change to hasten the learning curve – Pat was no exception. Change is a hackneyed cliché for what can truly be a life altering metamorphosis into something special. Perhaps the greatest contributor to a great man, change solidified Pat’s resolve, aided him in reevaluating his priorities, and humbled his reckless demeanor. This was completed in a month’s work – a month Pat spent in a juvenile detention center. When he finally emerged from the bleak confines of seclusion with people much worse than him, he realized who he was and that this was not him. If such an experience would affect more people in this manner, crime and terrible people would be a thing of the past; however, the world is not a perfect place which makes people like Pat even more respectable.
