Though many people will think there is a lot of bad in soda, technically it’s just carbonated water, which is basically “gas that’s called carbon dioxide that has been dissolved under high pressure” (sciencebuddies.org). When one opens a can of soda pop the carbon dioxide in it is released out causing the bubbles in the drink, and the best part for this project is that one can choose their own way to do it, yes they may have to follow what the recipe calls for but they can choose their favorite flavors and their own color for it like if they wanted to they could make a bacon flavored pop but it might not taste the best but the point would be that it would be their own idea.

There have been debates, and scientists have concluded that the diet coke and Mentos is a physical reaction, called nucleation. Nucleation sites are areas that have high surface with low volume. For this lab, we brought a empty soda can to school to show how pressure and temperature can affect the structure of the can. To begin the experiment, we needed a empty soda can, water and ice in a small plastic tub, and a hot plate. First, we added about a tablespoon of water to the empty soda can. Second, we put the soda can on the hot plate and waited until the water was brought to a boil. Then we used beaker tongs to carry the hot soda can and flipped it over into the container of water and ice. If we have waited a couple of more minutes for the carbonation, the balloons could of have been bigger and we would have had more accurate data. Some challenges we faced in our project was that some of the balloons popped while during the experiment and we figured out that they popped because of the amount of salt. We could have improved on the amount of salt that was poured into the soda. We should have added less salt to the balloon because that would have stopped the balloons from popping. The next step would have been to put less salt so the soda does not elevate to the top and fill up and pop the balloons.

The question that i was trying to answer is”How high can soda Fizz with mentos”. My hypothesis was that Coca-Cola will go the highest. My hypothesis was correct because out of all the other soda’s ,the Coca-Cola went the highest. The number that supported it was that it was measured in milliliters and they go up by 30. It was finally Friday, August 28, and I was eager to go to school. Friday, was the day our classroom got to do the Diet Coke Mentos Project. For this project we needed the following: two liters diet coke, mentos, tubes, thermometer, a beautiful sunny day, a bunch of excited fourth grader and an awesome teacher, who let us do this cool project.
