When March 5th finally arrived we had a lot of preparations to tend to. We were pretty sure the Mack’s would leave at night, they told Alex they had a family birthday party to go to. Unlike past Fight Nights no invitations were sent out, everyone was invited. We posted Alex’s address on all forms of social media that morning. I then went to Alex’s in the middle of the afternoon to help him set up for the night. We moved couches, and set up the basement for optimal viewing. Now all we had to do was wait for the Macks to leave. We hung around the house for the rest of the day but right around dinner time I left to make it less obvious and met Katie Peters and Hannah Bouas at subway for dinner. Alex was going to call me whenever his parents left …show more content…
Now we told everyone to park in the Toms parking lot and walk to Alex’s from there, just in case the parents came home early there would not be a ton of cars on his street. Now we were expecting around fifty people to be at the house for the fight. When I walked in there were already over fifty and people kept pouring in. Videos had always been posted through snapchat, this is how the popularity of our event grew, but the problem with snapchat was that these videos were only ten seconds clips and scattred clips of the fight. When promoting this event we advertised we would live stream through Periscope. Bobby Tedesco and John Hilpert were in charge of the stream and they did a great job, the entire night was streamed live to the internet where we averaged fifty views throughout the whole night. I still littered my snapchat with videos and with the number of people there they did …show more content…
We expected that the only fight that night would be Chandler vs. Brendan, that was definitely not the case. Before the main event there were six other fights. We had attracted a lot of the seniors to Fight Night X and they were definitely down for fighting. These minor fights included, Alex Mack vs. Zach Diecker, Luke Worley vs. Blake Metcalf, Max Kemper vs. Collin Goveia, Michael Smith vs. Austin Sweet, Square vs Joe Wolf, Bryce Rutledge vs. Parker McDonald all leading up to the main event. Will Hogan had been taking cash bets throughout the night and Brendan was the heavy favorite. (Our event had turned from an underground fight club to an underground fight club with illegal gambling) Brendan was the favorite due to his size and the fact that he was getting shipped off to Army basic training in just a few months. But, he was a wild card, like I stated earlier he was not part of our friend group so we had never seen him fight. This was unlike Chandler who was a Fight Night veteran with a side of batshit crazy when it came to wrestling. After a crowd pumping introduction from Joe Wolf the most historic fight in Fight Night history was
In the American Colonies Unit, I learned about the development and structure of the early colonies in America. More specifically, we talked about each colony's economy, government, religion, and history. For instance, we talked about how William Penn obtained a charter for Pennsylvania and made it a place of religious freedom and tolerance ("Brief History of William Penn"). In the American Colonies Project, we had to write a first-person narrative about living during the colonial times. For my project, I chose to research about Virginia during the time of Bacon's Rebellion. I chose to research Bacon's Rebellion because I wanted to understand why people 0f Virginia decided to rebel and what went through their minds as they burned Jamestown to the ground.
I have lived in only one location my entire life: Edwardsville, Illinois. A peripheral suburb of St. Louis, it stands as the rare oasis of people in a desert of corn, pinned in its own personal bubble. Due to this blend of time and isolation, I developed a natural familiarity with my hometown. But, throughout my childhood, I longed to break free from the confines of the bubble and venture outward. However, this changed last summer, as I walked through Richards Brickyard, our family heirloom, that my great-grandfather, Benjamin Richards, founded over 120 years ago. I felt these childlike sentiments slip away. The bubble that had surrounded me for so long began to vanish, and the picture that it had been obscuring was slowly revealed.
The excerpt above is part of Ronald Reagan's campaign speeches in California on March 31, 1976. Reagan's speech is reflective of the problems that forcing groups of individuals together forcibly and unnaturally. Professor Zoë Burkholder candidly highlights in the journal article "From Forced Tolerance to Forced Busing: Wartime Intercultural Education and the Rise of Black Educational Activism in Boston," that integrated busing was unsuccessful because both white and black students were still working to understand the tolerance of each other.
Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather was the best fight I have ever witnessed. My neighbors invited me over their house to watch the fight. I was so ready to watch the fight; history was happening right in front of my eyes. This has never happened in the the world of boxing. The best MMA fighter, fighting the guy maybe known as the best ever to box. I got goosebumps just watching them walk up to the ring. I just couldn’t believe this was actually happening; I’m watching history. I was watching the fight at my next door neighbors. They are the definition of hipster; they’re hipsters on steroids. I definitely stood out. They’re the best people to watch fight with, they were so passionate about it that they made the fight way better. All the
If you follow me on Snapchat (which you probably don't) you'll have noticed that I've recently upgraded my whip of choice. For the last week your boy has been cruising around in a super clean Infiniti Q50. Now, that's just my loaner, as my recent purchase is still getting worked on before pickup, but point is I'm moving on from my vehicle of the past seven years. As welcome as this is in so many ways, the part of me that is constantly depressingly nostalgic is aching inside.
I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for CHAT. Throughout the years as a participant, I learned to be mature, help others, I even got a mentor along the way. I would be on the streets, in fights, in a community where my life will just be a step in a different direction. Most of my life CHAT has been a resource to me at home, at school, and at work as well. I have grown to know the neighbors, the volunteers, the interns, and the staff of CHAT very well. CHAT has given me the confidence I need to succeed in life.
Eighty to ninety percent of the population needs to be vaccinated to prevent the potential spread of a disease (percent depends on the infectiousness of the disease). Another valid reason to vaccinate oneself is to create a secure blanket of immune people to protect the unfortunate individuals without the choice of becoming vaccinated. The strategy of protecting others who have not received vaccinations is called herd immunity, which is a more essential reason to become vaccinated compared to only protecting oneself. Those who cannot receive vaccinations are people that have severe allergic reactions to the preservatives in vaccines and younger children. In a Ted Talk, Romina Libster explains the importance of herd immunity, “People who are
It's a Friday afternoon, I plan to go to Great Wolf Lodge in an hour with my church. I see one of my friends so he says to his mom “ Hey, that's my friend” I said “Crap” So I go inside to sign in to go and see my friends just sitting in a corner on a big sofa. We are listening to music and just talking then a green bus comes.
It is true in life that everything happens for a reason. It is also true to say that sometimes it is all about being in the right place, at the right time. There was never a more prominent example of this than a traumatic summers evening, only a few years ago.
basically standing room only, and then going on to give you a blow by blow account of the fight.”Yes,
Sitting in a hospital waiting room, alone, afraid; and waiting for the news; would she be ok? Would she even survive? My nerves were out of control; my heart was beating through my chest, you could literally see it thumping through my top. The beads of sweat racing down my forehead, as if I was in the middle of the Safari dessert. I have been an athlete my entire life, yet I have never felt so physically drained. I look around, my eyes opening, then closing; as if I am coming in and out of consciousness, then suddenly echoed words begin to ring around my ear drums….” Sir…...sir, can you hear me? Sir please, we need to know what happened. We need to know what happened to her. Maybe my motionless state showed my
I like to beat the rush for lines and do not prefer being late, but
She carries symbolic bracelets and tangled up headphones and torn playbills. She carries crumpled sheet music, a highlighted play script, a rusty gun and holster, an old calculator, worn out journals for writing fragmented lyrics, passionate feelings, unforgotten memories, and so much more. Twice or three times a week she carries packets of law and a lunch that was packed that morning. She carries a water bottle that is always half empty, or much like herself, half full, depending on how you see it. Wyatt carries the priceless shark tooth necklace she gave him, locked away somewhere unknown. Hannah carries the cheap but meaningful books that she gave her, unread but still valued. Her mother carries the candy she gave her, hard but sweet, a reflection of her soul. Something they all carried in common, was that they all carried something that was given; taking turns, they carried pieces of her shattered heart.
Well today is finally here. My final day of my eighth grade year. I've grown up so fast since I moved to Peersville. A few weeks ago we had the high school cheer tryouts and I am officially going to be a high school cheer leader. Peersville is a small town. Not much to do here just a pool, bowling alley and a few parks. Oh, by the way I'm Faith Flintwood, your average middle schooler. I'm 14 years old and just beginning my summer.
In the beginning of third grade was so exciting because I will get to see my friends. But when I got home my parents told me and my brother that we are moving. I was really excited at first because it was my first time moving.
