The pika is a small-sized mammal that is found across the Northern Hemisphere. Despite their rodent-like appearance, pikas are actually closely related to rabbits and hares. Pikas are most commonly identified by their small, rounded body and lack of tail. Pikas prefer the colder climates and are generally found in mountainous regions and rocky areas where there tend to be fewer predators. There are more than 30 different species of pika that range in colour and size, across Asia, North America and parts of Europe. Pikas are solitary animals and are found inhabiting piles of rocks close to meadows where there is little in the way. Pikas defend their territory by whistling to one another, and their large, rounded ears come in useful to hear the calls from competing pikas. …show more content…

One of the largest rodents is the Sciuridae family is the Woodchuck (Marmota Monax) or more commonly known as the Groundhog. It is a fairly common animal most heavily found in the north and north eastern parts of the United States and across most of Canada (Encyclopedia of Life, 2015). Most Woodchucks choose to live in a habitat of grasslands or along the edge of a forest. They tend to like a cooler climate, but during the heart of winter they will hibernate in burrows that they dig throughout the year. The Woodchuck is a incredibly interesting animal that creates elaborate burrows for homes and one of the true hibernators.
Diet and Feeding Type: Primarily a carnivore, P. catenifer eats terrestrial vertebrates. The animals this species eats include: birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, eggs, and insects. This species uses constriction to capture and kill its prey.
They are found in South America, Central America and South-east Asia. It has four species and all of them are either endangered or vulnerable.
The preferred habitat for this species are wet areas such as river bottomlands, floodplains, wet prairies, and marshes. However, relatively drier habitats are often used in summers. They feed primarily on small rodents, but may also consume frogs, other snakes, and nesting birds. Breeding generally occurs during summer or early fall, although it can occur
Where do they live? They live in Africa mostly but they can also be found in Asia. They can be
They are very fast and can be able to run within short distances using the most minimal time. It takes less than 10 seconds to run within a distance of approximately 100 meters. While the animals move around they try to monitor the environment as quadrupedally and monitoring of the environment can be able to take as much as up to ten minutes in any case they have doubts of where they are, this alerts them of any predators. Consortship is a situation where the two animals would stay close to each other and monitor the movement and environment of each other. This is done as long as the animals are out in an environment that is not seen as being friendly. The patas can be seen to be less vocal and they move around in silence, they make certain noise only once when they have seen a predator. The noise or the sound takes just a few seconds as long as the danger is taken away

During World War II, propaganda was everywhere. It was seen in television and posters. Posters were popular forms as they were colorful, creative, and often portrayed the artists view and concerns on the war, and movies showed the same thing. American propaganda created false images to make people scared of enemies overseas. Fascist and communist nations’ propaganda contained racist and misleading information to dehumanize the enemy and create hatred toward them in order to promote a communist government.
Nutria dig holes into river beds and the banks of ponds, wearing away the rocks and sediment. Rain and nutria work together because while their burrows weaken the land, rain also causes which weaken roadsides, dams, and dikes to fall. Rain can also work against nutria, because it can make the burrows collapse. Another way nutria affect the Pacific Northwest is they ruin the land by eating a fourth of their body weight each day. Since coypu eat a lot of roots, they dig to find the roots then eat them, which again, weaken the land around trees. Also, nutria strip the bark off trees making the area that was girdled, or the spot where the bark was removed, and above, die. Coypu cause erosion that destroys the land in the Pacific
When Odysseus tells his version of his travels with the Phaeacians, Odysseus gives a very detailed account of his confrontation with the Cicones. This story includes how upon his return from the Trojan War, Odysseus raids Ismarus, the land of the Cicones, along with his crew. To the surprise of Odysseus, the Cicones retaliated with a very robust fighting force, a force that was much more powerful than Odysseus’s crew. Odysseus characterizes this fighting force as too strong to be human, and thus deduced them to be godlike beings. When Odysseus recounts this story, he states “Fresh from the horizon they advanced - charging as packed as flowers in the spring … Zeus had given us disaster, my comrades and I damned to suffer punishment after punishment”
But the pidgeons are neccassary there a symbol letting you know that your alive them and the sun beaming down on your head I think the two work together secretly to annoy us seriously cause you don’t have one without the other when the sun is down you see no pidgeons at all its like they go to an other land but the moment the sun shines its face on the buildings the pidgeons are up and ready for a new day. I’m sure Houston isn’t the only place pidgeons like to call home but every city is different. I cant say that I have seen pidgeons on the outskirts of downtown like in town outside of Houston its like they are only attracted to big buildings and a lot of people with noisy cars and special
In the late spring and summer, their diet consists of seeds from grasses, salamanders, snails, ground beetles, and more insects. They also eat swallow grit to help with the variety of
Ground squirrels can be found in usually dry open areas most particularly in grazed rangelands, pastures, or grain fields (Salmon, 2016). They usually avoid areas such as the dense woods or thick chaparral. These animals are herbivorous and their diet is consisted of plants, seeds, grains, and nuts depending on the season (Salmon, 2016). These include green grasses, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, as well as fruit trees like apples, peaches, and oranges. They can adapt to their environment by using a burrow system where the dig 2-4 feet beneath the ground and there they sleep, rest, store food, and above all protect themselves from potential predators (Salmon,
According to the dictionary, colonialism may be defined as the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupy it settlers, and exploit it economically. Colonialism between the 1870s and 1900s had a massive impact on African communities. Therefore, I am studying effect of colonialism because I want to find out its impacts in order to understand the transformation it brought to the African continent based on our readings, films and class discussions. As present, the African continent continue to face serious economic, social and military challenges, even after attaining their political independence from European colonists. In this essay, I will demonstrate that colonialism broadly and adversely affected the socio-economic and military status on the African continent.
