Although the album did not stop Bush’s re-election, it “was both a harbinger and beneficiary of the Bush administration’s plummeting approval, selling steadily through 2005” (Pareles, Jon. “The Morning After ‘American Idiot.’”). American Idiot sold 267000 copies in the US and was number 1 on multiple chains, like Billboard’s top 100. The awards, critical acclaim, and general popularity amongst the public “shows that a quality record that contains a well-thought-out message can still appeal to a broad market” (Newman, “A Smart Start For Green Day”).
Nickelback is a rock band that started in 1995, in Hanna Alberta, Canada. They were originally called the “Village Idiots” but later changed there name to Nickelback in honor of their bassist Mike Kroeger who used to work at Starbucks and frequently said “here's your nickel back” it may be an odd name but was very catchy because in 1996 They made their first sorta album, it was a seven track “EP” called Hesher. Before they released the Hesher EP, they performed lots of covers of songs from bands like Led Zeppelin and Metallica, they were big fans of rock. Which was what inspired the band to go into that genera.
Aerosmith has impacted rock and roll in their music and it helped them a lot in life being a band member and a citizen. Aerosmith started off as a rock and roll garage band that became popular, but disbanded because of drug problems that then regained their popularity and became successful in their career.
Aerosmith helped many people especially after 9/11 with a concert for the benefit of victims (Lowe, 2004). Aerosmith has made a come back from nothing with really good music. They are also very big influences on the music world. Them coming back from the dead and their really good music brought them a memorable legacy. Aerosmith is a major influence on many bands one reason could be their music another could be that they came back from the dead. Aerosmith may have had a seismic impact, but they had influences of their own too. Their interests fostered by the British Invasion groups, Steven Tyler in New Hampshire around the 1960s played in a band called Chain Reaction, that opened For the Yardbirds, the Beach Boys, and The Byrds (“Aerosmith”

When people hear the genre “rock and roll,” they often think of performers like Elvis Presley, AC/DC, and Aerosmith. Those bands have provided the foundation for rock and roll, but the newer bands have to carry over from the bands of the 1960’s, 70’s, and 80’s to the bands of the 1990’s and the 2000’s. The new generation of bands has just as much, if not more, popularity than the bands of the older generation. Bands do not gain popularity just by showing up to rehearsal, though. Gaining popularity can take years of making music, and sometimes establishing credibility takes more time than other bands. The more popular bands that have many fans are bands like Three Days Grace, Alter Bridge, and Avenged Sevenfold. These three bands have had
Their albums became top hits on many popular billboards such as Rock and Roll Top 100. Their songs teach lessons such as how people can come from stupidity and nothing to the king of the hill in seconds. GNR had received plenty of hate and disrespect but it only brought them closer and made them better. They continued what they loved to do and did not complain about it. GNR grew up from nothing, put a few tunes together, and made music that changed rock and
Among these accusations was the fact that Green Day was a supposedly punk rock band with a major record label, an ironic twist on the anarchy and independence that so many punk rock bands represent. Billy Joe Armstrong actually commented on the group’s status as a punk rock band by saying “…we’re this big band now. We’ve made a lot of money. We’re not punk rock anymore… You can take us out of a punk rock environment, but you can’t take the punk rock out of us”. Although some avid punk rockers may argue that Green Day is not a true punk rock band, it is indisputable that Green Day created popular music that received high ratings.
One of my favorite band is Linkin Park, their songs with me through my middle school life. Linkin Park is a rock band from California, they are considered to be the most successful Nu-Metal band. Linkin Park has 6 members, the lead singers are Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda, the bass player is David Phoenix Farrell, the drummer is Rob Bourdon, the guitarist is Bradford Philip Delson and the DJ is Joseph Hahn.
rock world was changed by the rise of alternative music, but the band overcame that
The band has sold over 75 million records worldwide. This proves that they were one of the best-selling music artists in history and since the band’s breakup, they are often considered as one of the greatest artists of all time. Two live and two studio albums have also reached the number one place on the Billboard 200 chart.
As their story continued, each band’s sound and style took different paths. This in turn gained both bands each a different kind of fanbase and amounts of success. Metallica was an easy pick because they are currently the most successful metal band in the world in terms of awards and money (http://www.metalinjection.net/editorials/5-reasons-metallica-remain-the-greatest-band-ever). It will be interesting to find out how a non-commercial genre like metal can achieve commercial music-like success and status.
Flash back to October, 1997. The punk rockers who call themselves Green Day prepare to release the much anticipated follow-up album to Dookie, Nimrod. Every kid between the ages of 10 and 20 is ready to pounce on the album when it hits stores. Every one of my friends begs their parents to take them to the store on that cold Tuesday morning. The older kids ditch class to get in line at the local Best Buy. The album sells 80,000 copies in the first week and over 2 million before the new Millennium .
Over Linkin Park’s entire career, they have won over sixty awards ("Linkin Park Awards."). Their success was kick started by their debut album, Hybrid Theory, which contained massive radio hits (Leahey). Linkin Park went through many changes in order to get to where they are now. The band was eventually signed to Warner Bros and proved to be worth the investment. There are numerous ways to determine the quality and worth of a band and their success. Although Linkin Park faces few alternative-metal rivals, they can easily be considered the best rock band of the 2000s due to their numerous awards their substantial amount of sales.
