Despite being one of the oldest rock bands that are still active, AC/DC is still famous and well known among generations. The band has been around for more than 40 years and has been globally recognized as one of the most influential band to the pop culture of rock and roll. The band has a history of rotating members, yet the band is able to retain its famous characteristic in the music: energetic, eccentric, and raw.

     Kurt Cobain the singer and guitarist of the 90s band Nirvana which was an alternative rock band from 1988 to 1994. Cobain was born in the town of Aberdeen Washington. Aberdeen is a rural white trash town that borders Seattle the birth place of “Grunge”. Before them at record stores there were special sections for alternative music, they popularized it. However many grunge bands were around such as Mud Honey and The Melvins.

The Beatles were one of the most influential music groups of the rock era. They were able to conquer and influence pop culture with their music. Initially they affected the post-war baby boom generation of Britain and the W.S. during the 1960s, and later the request of the world. Certainly they were the most successful group, with global sales exceeding 1.3 billion albums. During the sixties, The Beatles using revolutionary ideas in their music inspired a generation of young adults across the globe to look at life from their perspective.

The Grateful Dead, the most popular so called underground band of all time. This band has underwent many changes, some good and others bad throughout their thirty or so years of performing. I plan to prove that a band that has remained together for thirty plus years isn’t as easy as many would assume. In fact I would have to say the “down” times in the band almost equal the outrageously great time they had. Despite all the down times the amazing music of the Grateful Dead always made it possible to bring smiles to empty faces anytime anywhere. Even now that the bands figure head (Jerry Garcia) has passed on, the family that he created (Deadheads) and left behind will never forget him or his music.

The grunge music of the 90’s might be a product of the times and changing of opinions, it still has a strong presence and legacy in the modern age. Music critics can argue about whether grunge music’s effects on rock music were positive or negative but the main point is that it did affect the music, fashion, and cultural world in a huge way. The grunge movement affected not only the music world and but the overall society of the 90’s and every decade that followed. Grunge emerged from Seattle in the late 1980s. This genre of rock and roll helped create a bridge between mainstream 1980s heavy metal–hard rock and post-punk alternative rock. Eventually, grunge faded—partly because of the death in 1994 of Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain, who had become a generational spokesman. Some people say that “grunge music ruined rock and roll” when in reality it gave way to new forms of the genre and helped bring harder rock songs to the mainstream audiences of the time.

Their career started in early 1987, when Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of the group, and Krist Novoselic, the bassist met in high school and decided to form a band. They needed a drummer, so Aaron Burckhard joined them. They went through a series of names, some of which are Skid Row, Pen Cheap Chew, Bliss and Ted Ed Fred, until Kurt finally thought of Nirvana. But names aren’t the only thing they changed quite a few times. They had at least five drummers until, finally, Dave Grohl came in 1990.

In February 1992 he married Courtney Love, and his daughter Frances Bean Cobain was born shortly after. In Utero, Nirvana’s second album, was released in 1993, and was more open than Nevermind. Despite all the success, Cobain’s heroin usage grew. He attempted suicide on March 4, 1994, but the incident was deemed an accident. On April 7, 1994, Cobain shot and killed himself. He left a note to his wife and daughter that ended “I love you, I love you” (personal communication, April 7, 1994).

Kurt Donald Cobain was born February 20th, 1967 in Aberdeen, Washington. Son of Wendy Elizabeth and Donald Leland Cobain, Cobain was born in Grays Harbor Hospital. Ever since Kurt was a young boy, he has always had an interest in music as he started singing at 2 years old. At age four, he was writing songs, singing, and playing the piano. He was also listening to rock and roll at this age such as “The Beatles” or “The Ramones”. Cobain’s parents divorced at the age of nine and both of the adults remarried shortly after. Kurt has said in interviews that this had a very dramatic effect on him, even going as far as changing his personality. He had always dreamed of that perfect family, and since his parents decision stopped that from happening - he held a grudge.

If I had to think of one word to describe the Beatles, it would have to be iconic. Their style and innovation is something that has really stood the test of time and remains unsurpassed. They were ahead of their time, they were experimental, and their music is timeless. The Fab four’s music speaks to all generations. The variety in which is displayed throughout their albums is what I admire most about the Beatles. Each record has its own unique sound; there really is a song for everyone. It is impossible to talk about the progression of music without mentioning the Beatles. They sit atop The Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Artist of All Time list, and for good reason.
