What Is Atticus Finch Courageous

Courage is something that all people have inside, they just need to use it. When someone is courageous, they are forced to show that they are strong and can do things that others do not want to do. In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, the father of the two main characters is Atticus Finch. He is asked to be the lawyer for a black man, Tom Robinson, who was accused of raping a white woman. He has to go to court tell the truth despite all of the racism in Maycomb while continuing to raise his children. Throughout all of the rough times, Atticus shows that he has the courage he defines for his son because he fights and stays strong no matter what comes his way. Atticus shows courage by standing up to the men and telling them that they were not going to harm Tom Robinson. A load of men came to jailhouse and tried to kill Tom. Atticus’s children “were taking a shortcut across the square when four dusty cars came in from the Meridian highway, moving slowly in a line. Heck Tate asked Atticus to come shoot “Tim Johnson had made up what was left of his mind...He had made two steps forward, then stopped and raised his head...He [Atticus] brought the gun to his shoulder. The rifle cracked. Tim Johnson leaped, flopped over and crumpled on the sidewalk in a brown-and-white heap” (Lee 127). It takes a great deal of bravery to shoot a living thing. Atticus displays tremendous courage because he shoots a dog. Even though it is a mad dog, killing something must take a strong personality. Atticus had to shoot Tim Johnson because Heck Tate was afraid of missing. Atticus is a symbol of courage because he shows that no matter what the situation is, he will come through even if nobody else
