What is a pediatric surgeon? Well, pediatric surgery (peds surgeon) is a medical field dedicated to surgical healing of kids from 0-18. A pediatrician will provide care, perform procedures and observe recovery (Book Source). To go into more depth they repair biochemical defects, diagnosis dissect tumors, perform organ transplants, and correct endoscopic related issues. Most importantly they provide comfort and reassurance before and after the operation. Being a surgeon is a lot more then performing a surgery, you can’t just cut into a person, fix them, and then repeat. It isn't like fixing a car or a machine, it’s a person, a human, and in this specialty, it’s a child. Therefore, when entering the medical field, there are some characteristic
treat, and help prevent children’s diseases and injuries. Pediatricians are also known as, Baby doctors, Adolescent Medicine Specialist, General Pediatrician, Medical Doctor (MD), etc.. Pediatricians care for infants, children, teenagers, and young adults. Some pediatricians specialize in pediatric surgery or serious medical conditions. A pediatrician is concerned with the physical, emotional, and social health of children from birth to young adulthood.
Matthew Brennan from he Health and Pregnancy Center of WebMD says, “Pediatricians are physicians who specialize in the growth and development of babies, children, and adolescents” (WebMD). Pediatricians are responsible for assuring concerned parents that their precious child is on the correct track for a long and healthy life. While researching more on the tasks of these doctors, I found that they mainly examine the child before coming up with a diagnosis. A typical examine consists of checking their ears, reflexes, throat, etc. I had also learned that pediatricians are the first to examine a baby who is just born. They must be sure the new baby is breathing and responding correctly (WebMD).
“As a surgeon you have to have a controlled arrogance. If it's uncontrolled, you kill people, but you have to be pretty arrogant to saw through a person's chest, take out their heart and believe you can fix it. Then, when you succeed and the patient survives, you pray, because it's only by the grace of God that you get there.”-Mehmet Oz. One never considers themselves able to accomplish something great until they meet someone great who has already acquired insight of the world from the other side, the side where all of the talented men dwell. A young girl does not grow up dreaming of becoming an oral surgeon; she dreams of traveling and seeing the world outside of the walls of her small town. I had already had my fair share of adventure, having more surgeries than my mother had by the time I was three months old. I had what specialists call Van der Woude Syndrome. Basically, I was the 1 in 100,000 babies in the world who happened to have this genetic disorder. A key characteristic of Van der Woude Syndrome is a cleft lip. With that being said, I had many surgeons in my lifetime, but one man stuck out. Maybe it was because it was one of the biggest surgeries I had, or maybe, just maybe it was because God had put him in my path to inspire me for greatness.
I, Roel Navarro, expect to assume the role of a Cardiothoracic surgeon also specializing in pediatric surgery. These type of careers require the most rigorous training and only a specific amount of special people are selected. Therefore, people who seek career paths in surgery need to be well rounded;in addition, should also be able to lead and be perfect on their thought so they shall make no mistake during surgery or surgical procedures.
Pediatric anesthesiologists are specialist that treats children from the newborn period through the teenage years, years 0-18. A pediatric anesthesiologist is a fully trained anesthesiologist who has completed at least 1 year of specialized training in anesthesia care of infants and children. They usually work alongside pediatric surgeons in an operating room.
“Long before the growth of modern medicine, before the wizardry of pharmaceutical drugs and the miraculous dexterity of surgery, men and women were seeking the source of illness and the elixir of good health. (Smolan, Moffit, Naythons 9)”. Surgery has been in the world’s history for thousands of years. There have been many things in the past that have brought humans to where they are today in the medical field of surgery. Men and women of different ages and ethnicities have had many years of schooling and practice that help them in this difficult profession. Many lives have been saved from this constant practice and more are to be saved in the future. Surgery first started thousands of years ago, and has changed throughout the Middle Ages into

Countless high school students aspire to become neurologists or surgeons, but tend to disregard the incredibly rewarding and memorable experiences that Pediatrics presents. Pediatrics focuses on solving issues that pertain to children, and attempt to solve these problems using critical thinking developed over decades of training and education. For those who wish to follow the medical route and make an impression on the younger generations, pediatrics is a wise, fulfilling life choice.
Surgeons treat any injuries, diseases and deformities through operations. A large number of surgeons usually choose to perform general surgery, a lot of surgeons choose to specialize in a specific area. Surgeons examine patients, perform and interpret diagnostic tests and counsel patients on preventative healthcare. Some examples of the specialties that surgeons do are orthopedic surgery which is the treatment of the musculoskeletal system. Neurological surgery which is the treatment of the brain and nervous system. Reconstructive surgery which is to perform or treat structures of the body affected by defects, abnormalities, trauma, infection, tumors or disease. The last one I’m going to name is cardiovascular surgery which is the treatment of the heart and the profession I want to pursue.

The rapid beeping of the alarm reverberated down the hallway. In a split second, every nurse and physician sprinted toward the sounding alarm, frantic to get to the room. It was the rapid response alarm. A patient had gone unconscious and the family had sounded the alarm, desperate to help him. Minutes later, with the alarm still echoing through every hallway of the inpatient floor, an ominous voice came over the hospital intercom and said, “Code blue, 324. Code blue, 324.” It was no longer an unconscious patient; it was a patient in cardiac arrest. Now nurses and physicians from all over the hospital flocked to the room, anxious to save him. After nearly thirty minutes, the patient was conscious again, and as I stood there in my volunteer
