I have never considered myself a writer. I honesty would try to avoid writing if at all possible. My weakest subjects throughout school have always been reading and writing. I would dread having to sit at my computer and attempt to produce a paper. I only would read required material for class; reading was never fun for me.
These quotes sum up my experience in this class. This class has helped me improve my writing. It has given me some confidence in my writing. Through this class I have also learned many methods to use to further improve my writing. Prior to this class, I never enjoyed the required reading. I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Terrorist’s Son. I have begun to look for other books and stories to read and to gain knowledge from.
At the start of this course, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had a goal for myself to improve and learn skills that would make writing less daunting for me. I have learned so many things about my writing that I didn’t think much about before. Another goal I had was to break the cookie-cutter mold that was set upon me throughout high school. During the process of revision, I discovered many things about myself as a writer and techniques that have been effective for me in the writing process.
The assignments in this class have shown me that I’m a better writer than I initially thought. The assignments have where I have improved, areas where I still need to improve, and how skills developed here can transfer into other courses.
Throughout the course of this semester, I have learned so much about writing. I used to think writing was my best skill in terms of school, but after taking this course, I realized I have a lot to learn still. In high school English was always my highest grade because of my writing, my writing in my SAT scores was always the highest, and last semester in ENGL 1301, I got a high A in the course. But this course has challenged me as a writer to think outside of the box and be more academically smarter in terms of writing. The journals have helped me write about things that we like more than the other assignments because it gives us more freedom and flexibility about what we can write about. These journals are being used as a tool as practice
This class has taught me multiple things other than improving my writing. I learned how to work with different people for a common goal, which was to complete our project and pass this course. However, things didn’t go as smoothly as I had expected, all of my partners were taking a few different courses and time was crucial to us. Summer school being a fast session did put us up against great obstacles but in the end we all prevailed and completed our portion of the work.
While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved.
This course has helped me enhance my writing abilities and display the rhetorical purpose of my essays. Coming from Lebanon, this course has definitely been a challenge, yet I believe I have learned a great deal this semester. This course encouraged me to engage in ideas of my own that I discovered throughout my writings. The articles I have read challenged me intellectually allowing me to view a writer’s perspective on a specific topic. The engagement with my classmates and the feedback given during this class gave me the opportunity to extend my thinking abilities. The two main techniques that I have learned this semester is; identifying the purpose of my writing, integrating evidence from my articles and supporting my statements.
In this course, I enhanced my reading and writing skills. Reading and analyzing stories allowed me to become a better critical thinker. Beside, Learning to review and identify errors with the help of my peers and my instructor improved the quality of my writing. Also, I gained valuable practice in evaluating the credibility of sources that I would include in my writing. Finally, I also want to thank this class since I become more confident in my writing and my reading abilities
When I first decided to take the class I didn't expect much from it, except for writing tons of essays each week. My expectations were not high because I knew it was another core class I had to get through. However, my expectations were completely overturned after taking this class for a semester. Instead of writing essays each week we had free writing, a walking journal, interesting articles to read, and most importantly lots of interaction with our peers. This class was nothing what I expected and I was really surprised how it turned out to be one of my favorite classes I have taken so far. I have learned so much about improving my writing and grammar, authors, techniques in writing, and even how to cope with stress and organize my thoughts back in order. I learned all about polemic and dialectic writing as
Overall, I am enjoying the relaxing atmosphere in this class. When I entered this class, my writing was too unorganized and have many grammar problems, but I am happy to point out my mistakes, in order to improve this aspect of my writing. And the reading of this course gave me something to think about my own life, how I should engage in oral conversations with others and how to shape my thoughts and opinions. This course is a very helpful experience to improve writing skills, and I also learned some valuable tools, based on what we did read, how to form my opinion in the future.
I have been a student at San Jose States University for second years, English 1A was my first regular English class, and over the course of my stay I have grown and learned a lot. As Hospitality major, I do not know whether need my writing skills for future job, but I know the great experience in English 1A class would help me to improve all my writing weakness.
I am writing about my classes which included quite a few writing assignments. Among these classes, Geography 300A was a seminar style class which included only writing assignments. There are two lessons that I learned from my previous writing class. The two lessons which I took from my previous writing class would be learning how to paraphrase and learning to compare and contrast same articles by two different authors. I am going to write about the lessons I learned in my previous writing class.
Even though the writing was never my forte, I am trying to put continuous efforts in order to get accustomed to the world of writing and eventually produce something which I am proud of. Since writing classes are labeled as some of the most difficult lower-divisions by college students, this idea has already induced a lot of fear in my mind towards this particular subject. This is to an extent that it affects my reading ability towards articles assigned in the writing class compared to the text I read for my entertainment. For instance, for the assignments where we are expected to critically analyze the text and provide responses, I tend to overthink a lot and eventually I fail to pick up the overall message from the article because I was too busy searching for details I am neither expected to know nor expected to use in my assignments. To elaborate on this, when I am reading the text, my brain is comprehending the meaning of each word in the sentence, however, it fails to establish a connection with the sentence prior and subsequent to the sentence because it is too busy trying to decode the details of that particular statement.
Thanks for being my first writing instructor when I enrolled into college. Yes, there were bumps here and there for me but after your encouragment and advices on how to revise my writing, I can tell that I have improved from day one. Now I will continue to improve my writing and use what I learned in this course to better improve in my next course. Once again, Thank You Mr.
Looking back over my most recent English classes, I have learned many things about me and my writing. The most recent English class I had was English II with Coach Cates my sophomore year. I feel like this class did not help me as much as it could have. Even though I believe I did not get the most out of my most recent English class, I did learn a few things about my writing. My latest English class helped me discover some strengths, weaknesses, and difficulties I have yet to overcome in writing.
Writing is always something that I needed to spend a little more time at. I was much better answering math problems than I was writing a paper or explaining a book I just read. In my college writing class I felt that I was always given a challenge. The book “ The Book Thief” that I read was quite lengthy and had a lot of symbolism in it that took me a while to completely understand. The papers that I had to do in my college writing class were also a lot more challenging than the ones I had to do in other classes. A song that I would use to explain my experience with writing and college writing class is “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus. I would use Miley Cyrus’s song to explain my experience with writing and my college writing class because there is always going to ways to improve myself as a writer. When I do any assignment in my college writing class I am always taking a chance with it. Writing can be taking in so many different ways and there is not real right answer, most is just personal preference. It is also a process that can be quite lengthy; it is not just a simple one-step process. It requires a lot of editing and having others give feedback about it.
