“Runaway Kanye West”
A year before this song was released Kanye West had his famous moment when he interrupted Taylor Swifts VMA acceptance speech. After that moment he was tortured by the media and hated by many. The following year he performed this song “Runaway” at the next VMA’s. I believe it was an apology to women he had hurt and disrespected, Taylor being one of them, and showed how lonely and vulnerable Kanye is. I think it impacted the way people view Kanye, and affected a culture of men as he describes as “douchbags”, and “scum-bags” and how men in society need to change. It is a Kanye West song, so the quality and production of the song is made very well. Kanye is not know to have less the perfect producing on his songs or his album.

He admits that his woman is a "good girl", but he's still addicted to the "hood rats" even though he knows their attraction to him is almost certainly totally shallow and all about what he could provide for them if they took her place. To me there's a lingering sadness in this song about the loneliness of that fact he can't really connect, so he drowns himself in money and random girls, and feels helpless to change that fact. I absolutely love Kanye, but was shocked that he wrote a song that revealed so much
The song I picked for this homework assignment is called Runaway Love by Ludacris and Mary J. Blige. The song is describing the hardships of three young girls and their struggle to survive. Finally, the girls are fed up with the lives they are forced to live and decide to pack up their things and run away. I think this song can relate to many aspects of sociology that we have learned in class. Some examples shown through the song are poverty, education, healthcare, marriage and family. All three girls’ different stories and struggles they face.
In his spoken word song “I Love Kanye”, West pokes fun at the media’s egotistical perception of himself. He raps, “What if Kanye made a song about Kanye? // Call it ‘Mr. Old Kanye’, man that’d be so Kanye // that’s all it was Kanye, we still love Kanye // and I love you like Kanye loves Kanye…” (I Love 1). This is evidence that Kanye isn’t the blind, egotistical, out of control superstar. Kanye West is just like everyone
To their surprise, Drake won't budge. I personal like this song, because most people in the world will look you right in your face and smile but inside they're the people who don't want you to succeed in life. Then we've the people that will tell you, you'll never be nobody. But you as a person you can't let people stop you from succeeding in life, and once you've met your goal, you've to prove them wrong that tried to bring you down, and didn't believe in you that you're somebody, and you can do anything that you set your mind to do. Nobody can stop you from doing what you want to do. This song is basically proving people wrong and that's why I personally like this
Throughout Kanye West’s prolific career, he has possessed an intricate sound that has separated him from his hip-hop counterparts. After the immense praise he received on his breakout album, College Dropout, it was no surprise that Kanye West would perform at the same level on his second album, Late Registration. West presented an innovative and soulful sound to the hip-hop industry, earning individuals’ ears and hearts. With lyrics that discussed themes of poverty, drug abuse, and domestic issues and samples that provided a sense of nostalgia, Kanye West was steadily transforming into a political icon far beyond the means of his hip-hop artistry. With such empowering and sincere lyrics, Kanye West served as the voice of historically marginalized people, whose voices were seemingly unheard before. In the song “Drive Slow,” West’s guidance and empowering message remained evident, as he joined forces with GLC and Paul Wall to create a soulful song that offered assistance on how to overcome barriers in life. Through the use of suggestive details, figurative language, and vivid storytelling, West utilizes the automobile culture to assert how individuals can achieve success of every field of human endeavor through constant efforts in the right direction. In addition, he also attempts to convey that one must “drive slow” in a car in order to appreciate the environment that consists outside of the automobile. West creates a double entendre of the word “drive slow,” expressing that
Another figure that appears on this music video is the country singer Taylor Swift, who was the eye of controversy when Kanye West interrupted her after she won best female video award (MTV 2009). First question that needs to be asked after Kanye crashed the stage of the awards is WHY?. What made him feel that way, in which he takes those minutes of fame away from younger Taylor Swift. We could think all he wants is attention but it is more than that. Mr. West feels that he has the right to tell others what is good and bad since he “clearly” know the answers.
According to Merriam Webster’s Dictionary the definition of voice is “the ability to sing.” This is probably the most important criterion because an audience doesn’t want to listen to a song that contains a horrible voice. This song is a perfect example of two amazing voices. Drake, a famous hip-hop and rap artist, and Rhianna, another famous hip-hop artist, sing this song as a duet. Their voices fit perfectly in this song because they both have a serious tone in their voice to relate with the situation the song is addressing. For example, this song couldn’t be sang by two singers that have a high pitch happy voices because the message that is being portrayed is more of a serious tone rather than a happy tone; therefore, these two singers voices fit the part very well.
Kanye West has proven himself over time that he is much more than just a producer. With each new album he releases, he constantly pushes the boundaries of music influencing artist across all genres. Kanye has an ever evolving sound that changes almost year to year. Kanye West’s Yeezus album is an album that takes a much darker and more minimalist turn in his discography. This approach to music makes Yeezus a much harder album to listen through because it is not filled with nice, polished sounds. Having the album made this way makes us look over what the message of a song and the album are. Among many rough songs one the most popular on the album was Blood on the Leaves. Blood on the Leaves samples from another song called Strange Fruit sung by Nina Simone which is a very political song talking about gruesome lynchings that happened before and at the turn of the century. With help from the sample, West uses the pain of lynching and drug abuse to compare with the break ups he goes through.
“Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you…I’ll let you finish. But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!” (West). Most people if they don’t know anything about Kanye West, they know this quote. When anybody hears his name everybody always has an opinion. Some people love him, while a lot of other people hate him, each for a variety of reasons. Though most people only see the arrogant and egotistic side of Kanye, the more important side that people don’t always see is the hardworking musician. In order to fully understand Kanye’s motives and to fully appreciate him, people have to know how he got to the point he is now today.
The tone of “Runaway Love” is sad, depressing, and it opens the eyes of the listeners. These characteristics seem to go along well with the song’s lyrics. Although Ludacris only uses a few poetic devices, they enhance the tone of the song. People who read the lyrics to Ludacris’ song can tell that he is portraying a very serious story.
In the first verse, West introduces a woman who has her problems with materialism. To elaborate on her condition, Kanye uses a pun by stating:
Kanye West likely seeks reinforcement and loves attention, negative or positive from individuals he does not know, or is not familiar with because of his constant need for attention. He acts the way he does due to his thought process and erratic personality/ personality disorders.
Based off the lyrics, the song is all about how Beyonce truly feels deep down inside. The message behind
Or perhaps the real artist, Taylor Swift’s purpose is to show the audience how ridiculous is the media image that has been created on her. It is a warning for both boys and girls, primarily those who are hoping to attract love from boys that love is perpetuated by its tortuousness. It is painful if boys will lose interest, that is Swift’s warning. The song revolves around a message for girls: do not be a daydream dressed like a daydream; do not be a nightmare dressed like a nightmare; do not find out what kind of a girl he wants and be like that forever, do not be heaven, do not be nice, do not be magic, never be too plain or perfect and good. You can also add torture to love and bring darkness to light, it is all about the
Artists tend to showcase a slower tempo for the song if it dealt with negative views of drugs because it is important to raise the awareness. Kanye tries to usher the ideas that money and education shouldn’t be the only objectives of life, so it shouldn’t be so important. Because it is unimportant, why express it with such detail in a slower pace? The music and lyrics therefore are contrasted with a purpose. The tempo is created with a bass guitar and drums. Add these to the already established acoustic guitar and female vocals and the beat sounds very complex. This suggests that the issues are also complex; they cannot be easily understood and solved.
The song implements on the hardships a mother will face for the growth of their son because love is what keeps them going. The love a mother will have for her son means that even though they don’t have a father figure around to show them how to grow up, they will always have their mothers to teach them the way of life through a woman’s perspective. In the song, “Dear Mama”, Tupac mentions, “For a woman it ain’t easy trying to raise a man, you always was committed” and he is able to foreshadow the hardships his mother had to face while Tupac was growing up without a father. At the age of seventeen Tupac, was always caught up in drama with his mom. Since Tupac was young he got involved into the hustle and was left in the streets where he basically had to risk he life every day. He never realized that being pushed into the streets would make him think about his mother or even worry about her. Tupac reflects upon the behavior he had during the time and how much stress he would add on his mother’s shoulders, but little did he know that his mother would be there for him regardless. Tupac Shakur’s mom was committed to his son and no matter the troubles he caused and faced she would be there for him to either help him out or at least hear him when he was not feeling good. She was a single mother on welfare, but she always tried
