Out of all of the founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin in my opinion is the one who had the greatest impact on our nation and still has a great influence on our nation today. Mostly people are familiar with Benjamin Franklin from his head being on the front of the 100 dollar bill, but there’s more to him than just his face being on the 100 dollar bill. He made a huge impact on us and not everyone realizes it, but that’s how he made it on the 100 dollar bill. Not only was Benjamin Franklin apart of founding our nation, he was also scientist, diplomat, businessman, and philosopher. Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17th, 1706 in Boston, Massachusetts to soap maker Josiah Franklin and his second wife Abigail Folger. Benjamin Franklin was apart of a big family and he was the 10th child out of 16 siblings. His siblings names were Jane Mocum, James Franklin, Anne Harris, Joseph Franklin I,  Samuel Franklin, Sarah Davenport, Mary Holmes, Hannah Cole, Josiah Franklin Jr, Ebenzer Franklin, Peter Franklin, Thomas Franklin, John Franklin, Lydia Scott, Elizabeth Douse, and Joseph Franklin II.  When Benjamin Franklin was younger his father wanted him to become a preacher, so he sent him away to a grammar school when he was only eight years old. Less than a year later, the family went through some financial struggles so he had to be transferred to Mr. George Brownell’s school for writing and math. After money, supplies, and soldiers began running low the Continental Congress chose Benjamin Franklin to negotiate a French alliance. Benjamin Franklin played many roles in the American Revolution had previously introduced the Albany plan which later became the groundwork in writing the Articles of Confederation (first constitution). He also testified against the Stamp Act and helped draft the Declaration of Independence in 1776. Later in 1776 he went to France as an American delegate and successfully got French help in the Revolutionary war effort.

There were many founding fathers of the constitution. Men who significantly impacted and shaped our government. Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, James Madison, and Benjamin Franklin are a few. However, we will focus on Benjamin Franklin because he contributed a great amount to our government. The Declaration of Independence, American Revolution, and the creation of the Constitution are his contributions to the government.

Benjamin Franklin is quoted saying “They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”(Franklin) This quote is in regards to the British government that were giving the American Colonists no say in their freedom. There was a compromise of liberty in turn for safety that the colonists were giving up. Franklin saw this as foolish and consequently uttered this quote in the rebellion of the Crown. He was a strong believer in fighting for rights and freedom; eventually, he helped in writing the Declaration of Independence tearing America from the King.

During the American Revolution the colonists used propaganda to convince other colonists to become independent from the British. First, the Boston Massacre was a way for the American Colonists to make the British look bad. This propaganda was an engraving that showed the British shooting at a crowd of the colonists with some dead on the ground. This was used to show everyone that the British came and attacked the colonists and weren’t helping them and was trying to make them look bad. Since the colonists didn't like this British this was a way to get more people on their side. Next, Benjamin Franklin created a propaganda to make the American colonists come together. I believe that Benjamin Franklin had the biggest impact at the Constitutional Convention, so many different things that he was apart during this period in time, its hard to to say that he didn't have the biggest impact on the convention. Even though at the convention they had George Washington and James Madison Jr, Benjamin Franklin had to be the wisest person to walk into the convention with his age and his experience throughout his life. In his elder years, Benjamin Franklin was a wise and experienced man whose words were to be respected in any debate.
