A question that has been debated for a very long time is, are zoos good or bad for animals? People have there opinions, and they back up their opinions with facts, facts that are true, but there are always facts for each side of the argument. Zoos have been around for over a hundred years and they have been adored and despised by many people. In the United States alone they have about 180 million visitors a year. Something about see animals in real life draws the attention of society. These articles i'm going to talk about on the positives and negatives of zoos display the nature of zoos that value their animals, and those that don't, and also with the problem of HAC (human animal conflict).

One illness is zoochosis, which is abnormal animal behavior this refers to animals behavior in a psychotic way, and because of this some animals need to have therapy or be put on a special drug. Surprisingly lots of zoos put their animals on drugs and medication. Another illness similar to zoochosis is ABR(abnormal repetitive behavior), this refers to strange odd looking behaviors animals develop because of stress, boredom, and depression. What's making this worse is some animals, for example dolphins, are made to do unnatural behaviors for show purposes, like doing tricks for an audience like dolphins and whales do. These illnesses are a major problem in all zoos.
The last topic is about animals called surplus animals. Surplus animals are unwanted animals that zoos have no reason to keep. There could be no more space or they provide nothing for the zoo. Zoos almost always have an overproduction of animals. So the shocking truth about what they do to these surplus animals is that they do a few cruel things like they can kill them, sell them to people for different reasons, or they might even feed these animals to other animals in the zoo.
