What Are The Economic Differences Between North And South

The American Civil War was the bloodiest war ever in the history of the country. The war which started in February 1861 and ending in the spring of 1865 saw 642,427 Union and 483,026 Confederate soldiers die. The Union consisted of all 6 New England states as well as: New York, California, Nevada, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Oregon, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. The Confederate states included: Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. The battle between the North (Union) and South (Confederates) was caused by numerous disagreements and opinions, one of the main reasons being the economic differences between the North and South which lead to insurmountable disagreements about the way the country should be run. The rapid growth in the population as well as the industrial growth of the North caused a separation between themselves and the South. The main reason for the population growth was due to immigration, the South depended on the use of slavery, which may have been a cause as to why the immigration growth in the North was far greater than in the South. The North was against it, hence the increase in immigration population. In fact most norther worker and immigrants opposed slavery because they felt it was an economic threat to them. The South on the other hand was in favor of slavery due to the fact that they had a large number of plantations and felt that slavery was the best source of labor to help the plantation owners make money to support the southern states, since most southern whites were poor their dependence on the plantation owners was strong.
