There is no doubt that Henry Ford had a strong impact on America during the Progressive Era. His Ford Motor Company revolutionized mass production and consumerism through his development of the assembly line. However, many people were opposed to the routinized unskilled labor he employed that caused many of the workers to be easily replaceable. Despite this, Henry Ford still contributed heavily to society. Ford employed thousands of workers at salaries that were unprecedented for that day to those who he thought qualified for them thereby redistributing his own fortune and improving the lives of the lower class. The gospel of wealth describes how “people of great wealth… had not only great power but also great responsibility to use their riches

In 1891 a group of Creole professionals in New Orleans formed the Citizens’ Committee to Test the Constitutionality of the Separate Car Law. They hired Albion Tourgée, a Reconstruction-era judge and social reformer, as their legal counsel. As plaintiff in the test case the committee chose a person of mixed race in order to support its contention that the law could not be consistently applied, because it failed to define the white and “colored” races.
Congressman Fred Upton is the Republican representative for the sixth district in southwestern Michigan. Being this, he is responsible for the interests of Berrien, Kalamazoo, Cass, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties, along with most of Allegan County. This specific area of Michigan is extremely agricultural, and is the home of many farms that date back for generations, thus many of Upton’s focuses are on not only the agricultural side of policy, but the citizens that work the ground themselves. That being said, Congressman Upton is very focused on the ins and outs of national policy as well as the local.

Racial gerrymandering is also a conflict to the XIV Amendment of the U.S. Constitution because the district maps in Virginia’s case favors whites over African-Americans, giving them more votes in legislation of districts. African Americans don’t have an equal representation because of how the districts were drawn. Although the African-American population in Virginia isn’t much compared to the white population, that does not mean that the number of African-Americans should consist of one commonwealth representative. This exemplifies how African-Americans’ chance to obtain such a political position in Virginia is unfair as a result of gerrymandering.

Detroit, once the New York City of its time, nick named the “Motor City” as it contained one of the leading car manufacturing centers of the automobile industry. Is Scott Fitzgerald’s, The Great Gatsby truly one of the greatest love stories of all time? Or his love story overwhelmed by unrealistic sequences and fantasizing? In his article, “The Serious Superficiality of The Great Gatsby,” Joshua Rothman vehemently denies the presupposition that The Great Gatsby is about love and father states that many characters and sequences in the novel are unrealistic. Other critics who would argue that the novel is about love are too dogmatic in their beliefs. Supported by a preponderance of evidence from the book itself, Rothman’s claims that The Great Gatsby is about fantasizing rather than love and that the story itself is unrealistic are indeed accurate.
