Was the war with Mexico justified?
I do not think the war with Mexico was justified. I don’t think the war with Mexico was justified because I don't think America had the right to take Mexico’s land away from them. America has justified the war with Mexico with the idea of Manifest Destiny, how it was God’s will for the white Americans were to take over the North American continent, and how most Mexicans were Catholic, and the idea that native americans were godless savages and didn’t deserve the land. I don't think these reasons are reasonable for taking land from Mexico. Also, another reason to wage war on Mexico was that the Mexicans have “passed the boundary of the United States, has invaded our territory and shed American blood upon American
According to Charles Sumner, from “Objections to the Mexican-American War”, he states, “Our (American) Newspapers excited the lust of territorial robbery in the public mind.” This quote shows that even a state legislator from Massachusetts admits that the United States stole land from Mexico. In another quote from Charles Sumner’s “Objections to the Mexican-American War”, he states “Certainly Mexico might justly charge our citizens with disgraceful robbery.” This evidence shows that the United States already stole land from Mexico and that it was unjust to go to war with
One reason the Mexican War was not justified, was because the americans stole mexican land. American settlers only saw it as being part of the bigger plan of manifest destiny. In document D There is evidence of the american fault. For example: The mexicans had only recently gained their independence from spain as did many other latin american countries; so they had only recently gained their territory before it was to ripped from them again by America. Also, american slave owners wanted to occupy Texas to expand the slave holding territory.
On the fateful May day of 1846, America, under President James Polk, declared war on Mexico. By the end of the war in 1848, Mexico lost nearly almost half its territory to the United States. Do you think this was justified? Taking another’s land through 2 long years of war? Is it worth it? I believe that Polk and Congress’s decision was wrongful for the following reasons: Polk had provoked war, [American but Amerishouldn’t] and finally the United States was committing a robbery by stealing Texas.
One reason that the Mexican-American war was not justified is that the Americans took land from Mexico. The annexation of Texas is an example of America taking land, stated in Document C. That was very wrong of the U.S to do at the time due to security and legal reasons for Mexico. Then Americans tried to take more land from Mexico by sending troops to near the Rio Grande River. As a security measure, the Mexicans decided to attack the American soldiers, killing 16 of the Americans. This shows that Americans were not justified for going to war with Mexico because Americans decided to send soldiers to invade the undisputed part of land between Texas and Mexico.
How would you feel if you were invited into another country to become a slave. How would you feel if you had to produce crops and create a country that didn't even have the same beliefs as you? Did you know that in 1821 Americans were invited by Mexicans to farm and make money. Did you also know that Mexicans anti-slaved Americans that weren't even catholic. Yes, the United States was justified in going to war with Mexico because Mexico invited America into Mexico to make them slaves, to make them farmers, and make their country wealthier.
The Mexican American war was justified because Mexico was the one to take the first
The Mexican-American War was incorrectly named; it was not simply Americans vs Mexicans, but a war between opinions. America’s war with Mexico: a war for land, for the sake of Manifest Destiny, or perhaps, a war to be started and ended in victory by… a thief. This war was supported and criticized by Americans and Mexicans alike. Manifest Destiny was a belief that it was God’s Plan to for America to expand to the Pacific Ocean, and a very controversial belief, at that. Before this war of opinions, the US already created a tense relationship with its neighbor by providing aid to the Texas Rebellion, and later annexing Texas. The United States was not Justified in going to war with Mexico because Texas was signed over, with no extra land, America was obviously itching to go to war, and settlers agreed to become Mexican citizens in the first place
One reason the Mexican War was justified was America’s “Manifest Destiny”. At this time, America was really big into religion and relied on God for what they should do with everything. Their “Manifest Destiny” was to expand westward. They believed that God wanted them to do this, so they did it. The Americans needed a guidance,
War isn't just about blood and bullets, its about fighting for what you believe! The U.S was justified, in my opinion in the 1800's because of many important reasons that happened between Mexico and the U.S throughout that key year. So, if justify means to for it to be right or correct, do you think its right for the U.S to go to war? As in my opinion of the war, I think the U.S is justified because how Texas is now annexed, how the Mexicans treated the U.S, and last but not least, Mexicans attacked the U.S.
Imagine a school yard bully terrorizing a child half his size. This bully was demanding the child’s lunch money despite the fact that he already had enough to buy a lunch. America acted like the bully and Mexico was the small child. The United States of America, fresh off the annexation of Texas were destined to go to war with the rival nation of Mexico. However, America lacked significant reasons to go to war with Mexico. The question many present day historians are asking is “Did the United States have enough reasons to go to war with Mexico?” The answer is no. Due to the fact that Manifest Destiny is wrong, the Undisputed Territory is undisputed, and America had no regard for Mexican law, America was not justified in going to war with Mexico.
The Mexican - American war was an unjust war, it cost the U.S. money, men and was a plot grab up some cheap, easy land. War is a money eating, killing monster that human ignorance has allowed to grow and feed on our greed and wants. In my opinion, war is only justified if two circumstances occur. Circumstance one; Your country is attacked. Circumstance two; A treaty or deal is dishonored. Now going off these two reasons one may think I would be fine with the war, and I was at first until The United States invaded Mexico and forced them to sell California. The United States General Zachary Taylor refused to take his troops into Mexico because of how unethical the invasion was. 13,786 men died, because of territory that could have been settled
“General Zachary Taylor arrived at the Rio Grande” (Velasco-Marquez 327). The General and his troops were at the Rio Grande, which was deep into Mexico. They were practically invading! “In the eyes of the Mexican government, the mobilization of the US army was an outright attack (Velasco-Marquez 327). Since the army was already deep into Mexico, the government of Mexico took it as an attack. The Americans acted like a bandit, stealing from Mexico (Sumner 329). America tried to steal Texas, a huge body of land, from Mexico. The Mexican government had to protect their borders (Velasco-Marquez 327). Using this reasoning the Mexican government was completely justified in attacking the American troops. This evidence shows the US was not justified in going to war because they invaded Mexico. In conclusion the US should not have started a war because they invaded Mexico
The Mexican war was led by the disagreements between America and Mexico. The president at that time was James Knox Polk, who was the 11th president and he believed that God wanted America to take the western part of North America. So James Polk would either buy it or take it.[When James Polk asked if the western part of North America was for sale Mexico said no.Later, when Mexico and America were fighting on where the border was, James Polk sent troops to patrol the Rio Grande river to where he believed was the border between Mexico and America and while they were patrolling Mexican troops killed and injured the troops because the Mexican troops thought they were invading their country.]I believe the U.S. was not justified in going with Mexico.
The united states was justified in going to war with Mexico because the United States wanted to reconcile with Mexico with nonviolence but Mexico didn't respond the same way. Another reason is The united states provided all types of support that the citizens needed. A third reason is that the United States wanted a better protection for the country that Mexico couldn't provide.
Directly related to my sense of normalcy is what I consider safe, and how I define my safety. In “Nothing to Fear?” I described one of my most vivid experiences with a homeless man, and how terrifying that had been for me. My initial analysis credited this solely to my physical location. While it may be busy in the summer, my home town is still pretty small, and not very diverse.
