I have worked at Walgreens as a pharmacist technician, but never had an experience working in a hospital pharmacy before. During my rotation, I noted that nearly everyone admitted into hospital have an acute condition that justifies the admission. The conditions also tend to be more severe or unusual, which leads to a greater variety of medicines being used. Also, in the hospital a doctor or nurse is not hesitant to contact a pharmacist when they need advice and pharmacists are accessible.

Over the weekend I went into a different Walgreen’s, and I observed one of the management team members. If I had to grade their professionalism with the interaction I had, I would give him a five. I gave him that score for many reasons but the main reason was because he has a positive attitude but in a professional way, and his communication skills were awesome. As soon as I walked into the store I was greeted and asked how I was today, and if I needed any help. I did have some shopping to do, so I told him I would find him if needed. I was shopping around at the school supplies and it was a little messy and I wasn’t quite sure of the price, so I went and found the team member. He was very kind as in to helping me with the pricing, and rang me up for my items. The whole transaction was wonderful, we held a conversation and it wasn’t awkward. I feel like he went above and beyond for his customer service, but I feel like it was natural and not forced which is part of the reason I gave him a five. Looking back at the article from figure 1, the team member had 9 of the 10 soft skills with the short interaction I had with him. I say 9/10 because I didn’t know about the flexibility portion just because it was a short interaction.

During this week, I have gained a lot of knowledge about the basic fundamental aspects of the institutional pharmacy setting. Prior to taking this course, I did not know as much about the hospital pharmacy setting because I only worked at a community setting. On the first day of class, Dr. Azab taught us how to connect the dots and learning the different traits involved in information transferring. I believe that it was very helpful and beneficial in learning the significant qualities that a pharmacist must have in order to effectively help others and patients in the best way possible. As a pharmacist, you have tremendous roles to contribute in the hospital setting, varying on what interests you the most. In order to be a good pharmacist, you have to acquire and master important attributes so that you can make an overall positive impact on the field. Intelligence is the capability to learn and understand different things and being able to cope and deal with new circumstances and difficult situations that can occur throughout life. As humans, we should always try to become the greatest and to meet high goals in life and not be mediocre. There are common factors that are involved in determining intelligence in which we discussed during class it includes the following: intellectual quotient, emotional quotient and spiritual intelligence.
