Meshal Alhelal High Int. 02- Hansen September.04th.2015 W1D1 Using Cell Phones in the Class Today, most of the people around the world have their cell phones. The era of technology shows us a new device which changes the history. This technology has been developed for several years until they produced it. A Cell phone changes a lot of things in our daily life. Some people spend a lot of time on the cell phone which is something not good. We can see most of the people around us are still doing that. In many places such as working place and studying place. Using cell phones is the worst thing can do it in the class. Using cell phones should not use during the class is the worst thing. When you are in the class you come for learning not for
The author goes on to say that most people, including the students are accustomed to using their cellphones frequently, and it has several negative effects on their education, additionally it has a destructive influence on their health, so it makes the life, sleeping, and working very difficult, and also complicated.
Tap Tap, Tap. Students are constantly using cellphones in class when they should be paying attention to important materials in class. Some schools have banned cell phones. Some schools are taking advantage of cell phones and trying to them to open new possibilities for new learning experience. A cell phone is a piece of technology that can have a positive and negative effect. For example you can use it find out what you need to study. It depends on the user. Cell phones can also be used to cheat and then you wouldn’t be learning anything, except how to cheat. Do you really think that we should allow these with children that don’t know how to use them correctly? I wouldn’t. Although cell phones can open new opportunities to learning, we can not assume that students will use them for academic reasons. Therefore, cell phones are not the best thing to have in school, they shouldn't be allowed in school to ensure a good environment for the future generations of mankind. The negative effects from cell phones can distract kids from the subject they are learning in school, reduce the amount of respect students show teachers, and make schools less empathetic. The only thing that schools will get from allowing cellphones in class is nothing but trouble.
Cell phones being used in classrooms, is a problem because when teenagers use their phones they are try to multitask or trying to switch back and forth. The problems with these are that when a teenager uses his/her phones they can?t think deeply into what they are learning and they could possibly lose where they were at while on their phones, which results in a poor grades (Schoenberg). We all should care, because smartphones slow down our learning. Some students just don?t care about their grades, because they constantly think they are missing out on something (Airhart).
Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school 's most easily accessible phone was on the complete other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could 've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the usage of cellular devices in educational facilities. Both Cameron and myself believe that cell phone usage is of extreme convenience, and has academically beneficial
I understand the fundamental risks involved in terms of lost productivity, but with the sheer percentage of people who already use them discreetly, I feel the risk is mitigated. Since numerous students use cellphones in class, I feel it’s important to take true advantage of them for learning opportunities. Through cellphones, students can, for example, research facts applicable to a lecture and use them to foster debate, edit their work through the use of e-learning resources and programs such as Word Online and Google Docs when commuting, and use cellphone apps such as RemindMe to be made more aware of deadlines. There are inherent flaws with cellphones, but I believe there is great educational value with them if implemented into the curriculum. As for those without cellphones, other personal electronic devices such as laptops and tablets work in this instance as
Most schools around the country allow students to have cell phones for safety; however, most schools do not necessarily allow students to use mobile phones during class time according to “Do Cell Phones Belong in the Classroom” by Robert Earl, a partner in a strategic consulting firm in Arlington, Virginia, has served in the federal government, in the defense industry, and in the Marine Corps. He is a Naval Academy graduate and Rhodes Scholar and has spent many years observing public school classrooms. The article “Do Cell Phones Belong in the Classroom?” states that lack of preparation for a class has been just one negative consequence these cell phone users experience (Earl). Cell phones are known to be a distraction in all types of situations. For instance, after the teacher has given the lecture. Or has even started helping students. Sometimes even he or she will start writing on the board. Students see that as an opportunity to take their phones out and send an instant message to friends, watch a vine, listen to music, or tweet. After some time, the teacher will notice the usage of cell phones. By that time he or she gives out a warning about the use of cell phones, the phones will disappear with unwilling obedience until the next chance is presented. There needs to be more discipline in a classroom and students need to be inspired and motivated by wanting to learn. “ Percent of teens who take their cell phone to school, school policy, 2009” shows
Many teachers believe that cell phones don’t belong in a classroom because there are several disadvantages. An example maybe a student who uses a cell phone in class has no intension in listening or paying attention to the teacher. This student has a short attention span who cares about socializing more than his/her education. Cell phones can be very disruptive; they can invade people’s privacy and can also be used as harassment or bullying. The usage of cell phones is creating a huge problem particularly when they are used in school.
The article “How To Get Students To Stop Using Their Cellphones In Class”, written by Anya Kamenetz. covers the idea that several students’ own cellphones. In general, when they are awake, they approximatively use them eight to 10 hours a day and check them an average of every 15 to 20 minutes. Afterward, a professor at the University of Colorado conclude after observation that the use of the cellphone in a class period causes of distraction, lower level of sleep and lower grade. Another group of professor come up with the same notification that more than 75 percent of undergrads reported texting while in class, and that in-class texting has a negative impact on their grade. In order to help the students to understand
Over the ages of time, there has been a questionable invention, several considered to be a disaster, but the worst by far is the cell phone. A cell phone is not the worst because it doesn't always work or its design, but rather it provokes problems with distractions, is ruining communication, and contributes to cyber-bullying. Though viewed a cellphone is a helpful tool that most people have access to, it has produced more negative effects on our health and well-being rather than improved ourselves, and our society.
The usage of cellphones has affected some student’s learning and it has affected the schools. The grade schools have not enabled their students to use telephones in class since telephones gain their attention from their lessons leading to devastating teaching. Young children who convey their telephone to class damage the school control and their telephones will be picked up by the instructor. Cell phones have substantially more capacities and applications which prompt a greater impact on school’s education. Roman adds in her article that “Television, computers, tablets, and phones all influence the amount of time a child spends studying for school.” This means that if there are children using technology instead of studying it can affect their grades in school because instead of using their time wisely they are using it to harm their learning. There will be more students bringing home bad grades due to not going over their notes and learn the material from school.
The usage of cell phones is increasing dramatically in the world today, especially among the student body. The principal’s idea of banning cell phones from the school has to be one of the best ideas yet. Why does a student even need to use a cell phone during school? The usage of cell phones in a school or a business can only lead to disaster. Students could be texting friends the answers on tests, talking on the phone and not paying attention and miss an announcement, or they might talk or text and hurt another individual verbally or physically.
In today’s society, college students spend a lot of time on their phones in the classroom, rather than paying attention in class. “Students are more distracted than ever. They tend to check their digital devices, particularly, their smartphones, on average of 11.43 times during class for non-classroom activities.” (Schaffhauser) Students do not pay attention, their grades go down, miss the lesson, some students even do it because they are bored and trying to make the time go by faster, sometimes your professor will call you out. “College professor have fallen into two camps: those who believe cellphones, laptops, and tablets should be allowed in class, to assist with instruction and to model responsible usage of the devices, and those who believe the devices should be banned, to eliminated distractions.” (Gose) Students are get digitally distracted by texting, checking their social media pages, or even playing games on your phone.
With technology advancing quite rapidly through the past few years, things such as cellphones and laptops are becoming quite common within the university classrooms. With this advancement of technology also comes many drawbacks to its usage within a classroom. Many professors are okay with the use of cellphones in the classroom, but often students will abuse this privilege and use their phones excessively. University students, throughout their university experience will begin to have an academic decline due to the phone use they incur on themselves. People using technology in class not only distracts themselves, but can distract other students who are trying to focus and work, as well as being disrespectful to the professor teaching the class. Due to these circumstances, professors should begin prohibiting the use of technology, more specifically cellphones, in their classrooms to improve student academics as well as attention. This will not only assist the students in the long run academically and for their career by teaching them proper social interaction, but make the professor feel more positive about teaching the content, as their students will not be distracted by phones.
Unfortunately, cell phones have become one of the biggest challenges instructors face in college classrooms as these devices have become a pervasive part of young people's lives. What used to only make phone calls and send text messages, now does our emailing, sends us Facebook and Snapchat notifications, and plays music. Additionally, our cell phones are not only used for personal activities, but for school and work life. We want to be reachable in case of an emergency, but the constant stream of notifications has led our productivity to significantly tumble down. Recently, I noticed that in many of my classes, even though the professor says there is a “no phone” policy, many students are scrolling through their social media feeds or responding to a text rather than paying attention to the lecture of the day. I admit to using my phone constantly during class, which often has led my grades to suffer poorly. Rather than paying attention to the lesson, I was checking on buzzing notifications of entertainment news and random trivia. Because I was not listening to my professor earlier in the day, I had a difficult time trying to complete the homework assignment. Thus, in an attempt to be epistemic temperate, for the last two days, I tried to not use my phone during class lectures and study time to measure my productivity.
Through the years, small devices such as phones, cameras, music players, and tablets have been appearing to make human life easier. The cellphone is one of those devices that every year presents drastic changes in the whole term of technology. Thus, these changes in cellphones have been transmitted in how the teachers are transmitting information and how students are behaving at class. Furthermore, cellphones are also creating a new environment in classrooms, more dynamic and more useful. According to Drury (2012), students can use their cellphones in class to a variety of tools such as taking pictures and notes, recording videos and sounds, and sharing some information by messages or texts (para. 3). Therefore, more of this factors that students can do in those days would not have been possible without the appearance of the cellphone. In spite of the fact that opponents believe that cellphones are working as distractors in classrooms, these devices are providing several advantages not only not only in classrooms but also in the entire world for students, teachers, and people.
