In the painting I see a mantel with a clock and two cylinders sitting on top; I also see a mirror sitting above the mantel. Inside the mantel a locomotive is protruding from the wall. The locomotive is in the foreground and the mantel is helping the locomotive look that way. The mantel, clock, and cylinders are in the middle ground of the painting. The mirror and wall are in the background. The locomotive creates atmospheric perspective by casting a shadow across the mantel. So does the clock by having a reflection in the mirror. The detailing in the mantel uses linear perspective by lining up with the vanishing point. Details in the wall also use linear perspective. The artist uses perspective to focus the viewer's attention by making the
4. Space- Perspective is demonstrated in many ways. This artwork takes up almost the whole canvas. The horses on the edge look like they were maybe even squeezed in. All of the characters in this artwork look to be congregated to the middle of the painting, besides the villages in the distance. Linear perspective is used in the placement of the villages in the background and in all the men and horses, which are grouped in the middle of the screen. Looking at the features in the painting I notice the use of overlapping and vertical placement, which both imply depth. The horses overlap each other as well as the gentlemen and other elements of the painting. The brown horse’s head overlaps the black one hiding its mouth. The villages and hills in the background appear to be very far away (diminishing size); they look smaller and distant from the rest of the main aspects of the painting.
This is a picture of my BIC card and is what I get as a Medi-Cal recipient, and the other picture is my new insurance card. I chose this picture for government health programs because the department of Health and Human Services are where they provide Medicare and Medicaid. The department of Health Care Services is where they administer Medi-Cal, which is what I have. It is the nations largest Medicaid program and many Californians have it. It pays for almost half of all births in California, and a little more than half of all the revenues in California hospitals. Medi-Cal, which is what I have offers essential health benefits similar to what Covered California offer. When I visit the doctors or is taken to the emergency room, my expenses are
The picture I drew represents the scene in Part III of 1984 where O’Brien is torturing Winston and trying to get Winston to see and believe he sees five fingers instead of four. For Winston’s appearance, I decided to have his eyes droop and also emphasize on his wrinkles, so the exhaustion of the constant torture is conveyed on his face. Additionally, the letters ‘BB’ (Big Brother) and the number five are shown in his eyes because he finally believes he sees five fingers instead of the four O’Brien is holding up. The letters, ‘BB’, are drawn in his eye to signify that Winston is finally capable of serving Big Brother the way the party deems fit since all his individual thoughts are starting to decay. Furthermore, the letters ‘BB’ are also
As for my Visual Analysis Task, I have chosen to write about this image on the left. This piece was recently created by Shepard Fairey a street artist. This was made in response to the election of Donald Trump- known as the President of the United States. ‘We the People’ features portraits of Native Americans, African Americas, Muslims, and Latinas portrays in Fairey’s trademark style with slogans such as “Women are Perfect” and “Defend Dignity”.
The painting, House by the Railroad, by Edward Hopper was completed in 1925. The house he painted was in the style of a Victorian house. The house was built next to railroad tracks. He painted House by the Railroad with oil based paint on a canvas. The artwork is a twenty-four by twenty-nine inches in a frame. When I look at this painting, the first thing I think of is where is it located? It looks like it is in the middle of nowhere but then again it looks like it is in a town because of the railroad tracks. The house is built next to the railroad tracks but there are no trees. The house contains several windows which I think would be neat. In this painting, he uses vertical and horizontal lines. He used vertical lines for the columns of the house and parts of the house. He also uses horizontal lines for parts of the house and the railroad tracks. Many of the lines Edward Hopper painted were medium size. The painting is painted with several figures lined up. If you look at the front of the house, you can tell that it is square on top of another square. The one on the bottom left is also a square but it is bigger. The picture and the lines are very soft. The lines in the picture never seem to overlap each other. The way the sun is in the picture makes it look absolutely beautiful. The sun could be either rising or setting by the look of the artwork. House by the Railroad was painted in the United States. Edward Hopper painted this picture after he came back
Perspective lines occur also in the background of the painting in the upper right in the trees getting smaller as they descend into the painting. This painting is an example of linear perspective. All lines converge at a vanishing point.
The technique most artists use to project an illusion of the three-dimensional world onto a two-dimensional surface is called perspective. Objects are painted smaller the farther away from the audience is supposed to be, and are painted bigger the closer the audience is supposed to be. A vanishing point is helpful in creating perspective. This technique helps to make up a sense of depth in a piece of art. In Autumn on the Seine, Argenteuil, perspective is created by the body of water that is in the foreground of painting. This body of water is going off into the distance in which you cannot see it’s end. In the background, there are
Three dimensional art was accomplished during the early southern renaissance by the use of the technique linear perspective. Linear perspective is type of perspective in which the relative size, shape, and position of objects are determined by drawn or imagined lines converging at a vanishing point on the horizon. An artist with the name of Masaccio created a new movement in Florentine painting with his fresco, or a painting done in watercolor on wet plaster on a wall or ceiling, Trinity. The artwork gave an illusion of a stone funerary monument and altar table set in a framed niche on the wall. The use of the vanishing point located at the eye level of the viewers of the church allowed for the viewers to see the art as if they were looking
This is an anti-smoking advertisement geared towards parents of young children. The advertisement is overall plain and simple; it gets straight to the point when you look at it and utilizes a dark theme. This anti-smoking advertisement is trying to evoke a sense of “parental guilt” into parents who smoke. The way the advertisement is able to do this is through the use of an optical illusion, use of text and the use of negative space.
The Dark Age of Greece refers to a period of time where all knowledge of Mycenae construction, painting, sculpture, reading and writing disintegrated due to Dorian invasion. One form of art that continued through the period of the Mycenaean downfall was the art of pottery. Pottery, more specifically vase painting, was the beginning of an illustrative development in Greek art and was considered a durable form of art because it ensured the survival of artifacts for long periods of time unlike other forms of art. The emergence of independent city-states within Greece took place around the 8th century, which in turn led to the formation of colonies to facilitate trade
The concept of linear perspective is simple to understand. There is a horizon line, which is the point where the sky meets the ground. There is a vanishing point, which is where all the lines of the painting run inward to meet the horizon line (Exploring Linear Perspective).
A man and woman are walking over the bridge while a dog is walking toward them, and another man is gazing out in the water. In this painting I have three orthogonal lines starting with the first one on the top corner of the building on the left side. This line then follows across the roofline, down through the man walking’s neck, through the woman’s skirt. This line then finishes on the cement and ending on the shadow of the dog. Orthogonal line two starts at the end of the bridge railing on the bottom right side. The line then continues down the railing, crossing through the old man in green and through the woman and man walking near each other. This line will end on the building in the left corner and right above the buggy by finishing on the building. The third and final line starts along the sidewalk on the bottom left side, leading up the sidewalk and going through the man’s coat, head and hat, while ending on building in the middle of the painting. The vanishing point leads us to the man that’s walking’s head while he is looking away at the water. This vanishing point pulls the focus of the painting on the man and also the women next to him on the bridge.
Write a description of an object as you are looking at it. Then compare the written description with information you can obtain by looking at the object or at a picture of the object. Is it true that “a picture is worth a thousand words” How does your comparison of written and visual representations relate to the discussion of propositional versus depictive representations in this chapter?
The blue rectangle running the left side of the painting, heavily tinted in green, creates the image of a wall or curtain besides the window. The lighter colors rectangle on bottom, almost seems as a part of the wall, but the slight tilt hints to a table or dresser top. On top of platform are an random assortment of objects,
Claude-Joseph Vernet made a painting that brings your attention to the foreground. In the front, there is a boat being boarded. Some of the people that are not boarding the boat are standing by the sea. In the sea, some boats are sailing off in the distance. One of the boats in the distance is a large boat that gives the illusion of being three-dimensional. The form gives this illusion because of the reflection in the sea. If you look in the lower-right, you can see the light from the sun illuminating the sky. This light is hidden behind a large mountain that also has a three-dimensional form. There is also lots of texture in the painting. Some texture is seen in the mountains and ground giving a rough look, and some is seen in the sea in the form of ripples. On top of the mountain in the lower-right, there is greenery that has an illusion of being light and feathery. In that mountain, there is an arch that makes the other side visible. In the far distance, you can see a faint
