A recent current event that is shown in media is the shooting of a Virginia State Trooper at a Greyhound bus station. This tragedy occurred Thursday, March 31, in the afternoon around three p.m. A Virginia state trooper was said to be talking to another individual, the suspect, and then the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the trooper leaving him with serious life threatening injuries. After the suspect shot the trooper other State Troopers began firing their weapons on the suspect. This tragedy ended with the suspect dead, Virginia State Trooper with serious injuries, then later died and two female civilians with not so serious injuries from the gun shots. Virginia state police do not know why the suspect pulled out his gun on the trooper and why in a bus station where many are surrounding and can get injured. Police also found out that the suspect has a long history of crime and gun use. Although there is many different …show more content…
Many stories are written in a positive or negative way to make a event seem in a negative or a positive way. Each news source has a way of tell how an event happened whether it is true or false information. Most of the time a news station hears about an event occurring and tries to be apart of it by telling the story but the source does not always have all the details so it is not credible. Usually by the day after the event occurs is when the media is a little more accurate with the details, but not one hundred percent yet. If one does not check different news sources for the same event to check the informations, the source can mislead the person and give false information. A news station like Fox News believes in personal responsibility and limited government, where ABC News believes in government actions for equal opportunity. With having different view neither source will be exactly the same because both have different ways of writ ring and
On the afternoon of March 12, 2015 I responded to the call of shots fired and two people injured near the Ferguson, Mo, police headquarters. When I arrived I noticed to officers were laying on the ground, I called for EMT’S and backup. Then we sealed of the perimeter, so we can work to provide proper medical attention to the officer’s. Then we proceeded with the investigation. I then examined the crime scene looking for any evidence or clues I could find.
In October of 2015 in Palm Beach County Florida a young African American was shot to death though he had caused no harm. After performing at a concert, Corey Jones was headed home and while traveling on I-95 his car broke down and he was stranded on the side of the road. While stranded he contacted his brother to notify him of the situation. He then contacted roadside services and sat patiently waiting for them to arrive. Officer Nouman K. Raja dressed in plain clothing in an unmarked vehicle pulled up to Mr. Jones’ car noting that this is taking place between the hours of 2:00 and 3:00am. Mr.
My first article is entitled, “Detroit Cops Unharmed After 'Fierce Gun Battle ' with Suspect,” posted on December 1st at 4:46 Pm. According to journalist Katrease Stafford, three police officers were on a routine patrol when they found a vehicle on the side of the road that seemed abandoned. The officers pulled up behind the car to investigate, finding a man standing near the vehicle. The police approached the man in an attempt to ascertain whether or not he was in need of assistance when another man noticed. He drew a pistol and opened fire on the three police officers, who took cover and started shooting back in defense. The unnamed man had a history of violent crimes, having been recently paroled for second-degree murder. His gun jammed after firing five shots; he was taken to the hospital after being hit by a bullet fired by one of the officers. The police have not yet revealed his name and are looking into the encounter more thoroughly.
Have you thought about what you want to do after high school i have thought about it over and over. After hard thinking I came to conclusion what i would want to be. I would want to be a Arkansas State Trooper. The history of the Troopers, is that on march 19th it was approved that arkansas had a state police department.
All three sources took either a neutral, minor, or highly biased position where the CBS article, the “Our Families Are Under Attack, So We Rise Up” article, and the “No Release for State Dreamer” article. While it is the essential job for the media to stay neutral, these mass media outlets are the ones that harbor the responsibility for perpetuation of misinformation due to their chosen pieces of research and evidence that they decide to integrate into their articles for all of the media to
The Columbine High School Shooting allowed for us to see flaws within our police force. Throughout the Columbine shooting, there were many errors made by police. The police didn’t know the killers were dead, so they looked all throughout the school for bombs. They also feared that “the fallen bodies had been booby-trapped with explosives” (CITE), making them move slowly. These missed calculations impacted the lives of many. Dave Sanders, one of the teacher fatally injured, was in the science room bleeding out. The police knew this but didn’t arrive “until nearly 3 pm. When they arrived, they found more than fifty students with Sanders, who was barely clinging to life. A paramedic tried to stop his bleeding, but it was too late. Sanders died
The first article I read was “Wounded Manhattan Beach Police Officer Recounts Chaos in Las Vegas.” The article was about police officer who gets shot at the Las Vegas shooting while trying to save people. The shooting was at a concert and nobody heard the gun fire till someone was shot. During the shooting there were multiple victims. A lot of people died, but some just got wounded. Even though the police officer got shot he still wanted to help out and did. Many lives were saved including his.
It is heartbreaking to see videos, pictures and hear of the cruel, unjust stories of police brutality in today’s media; however, it has become a common occurrence all over the world. One of the most recent police brutality case stories is the Ferguson case. The Ferguson case occurred on August 9th, 2014 when Michael Brown, an African American male, was shoot to death by a white, male police officer in Ferguson, Missouri. Brown was suspected of a strong-armed robbery minutes before his death. The story caused an outrage in the media when Darren Wilson, the police officer who shot Michael Brown, was not indicted on November 24, 2014. Riots took place all
Undoubtedly the most controversial topic in the recent past is police involved shootings. Although not specific to a police officer, the Trayvon Martin case in 2012 gained national media attention surrounding Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law. The case of Michael Brown Jr. sparked the 2014 riots, protests and civil unrest in Ferguson, Missouri when shot and killed by Officer Wilson. Areas of the country witnessed the same response by large populations supporting inaccurate facts and circumstances involved with these cases. An instant gratification society coupled the court of public opinion and widespread media coverage yielded disastrous results in many of these cases. Community relations are hugely impacted while investigators attempt to
Before cable news, the mainstream news networks were the only channels where many people get the news. All three news networks talk about the same event happening currently, but not all will have the same details and have different information and sometimes that information is not truth or correct because these news sources want to be the first ones to get the news on air for people to view and at times leave out the main focus of the occurrence. ABC, CBS, and NBC are liberal bias and at times misinterpreted the news and give false information. According to an online timeline of the television in the
My two media sources are alike by reporting the same news or showing the same pictures. They are also different in many ways. Some News media groups use false images or wording to make the story more interesting. The difference between these two is Fox Articles has told fake stories before, Although CNN has been exposed of reporting fake news, It is less likely for it to happen again.
From emergency personnel, to retail vendors, to educators and students, to government or military employees and members of the general public, anyone could potentially be involved in an active shooter crisis situation. As active shooter incidents are becoming more frequent in recent years; being prepared to effectively respond when faced with such a crisis situation can save lives and help a city to better prepare for and respond to such crisis situations (FBI major findings, 2014, para. 1-2). According to a recent FBI Active Shooter Incident Study (2014), “individuals actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in populated areas (excluding gang or drug related shootings)” are considered to be active shooters. The purpose of this paper is to analyze how the city of Aurora, Colorado handled the active shooting crisis that occurred on July 20, 2012. This paper will explain the crisis situation and discuss the communication responses that ensued on that day.
One community that stands out the most for the conflict between law enforcement and their community is Ferguson, Missouri. On August 9, 2014 Darren Wilson, 28, a white Ferguson police officer fatally shot Michael Brown, an 18-year-old African-American male (McLaughlin). This case started one of the biggest uproar the nation has ever seen between community and law enforcement. When the incident first occurred there were many pieces of information missing to paint a scenario of how and what occurred between Brown and officer Wilson. Apparently Michael Brown was walking home late at night when officer Darren Wilson and Michael Brown got into a confrontation that lead to Wilson shooting Brown, the case goes
It is commonly known that media coverage of anything controversial can be faulty, and biased. ABC News and CCN News could cover the same story, in different ways. This is amplified in cases that affect different audiences (as in age, race, financial class), because certain stations are aimed towards a certain audience. A great example of this is FOX and FOX Latino. The two stations, though sister stations, have very different approaches on certain topics, one being illegal immigration. FOX tends to be very biased, while FOX Latino gives direct facts.
Unfortunately in this day and age, if any news reporter or television show give the public any information on anything, it is automatically consumed as fact by assumption. We all would like to believe, “why would they lie to us”, well there are many, many reasons why a station would make false claims, report false news, and over exaggerate any claim made out there. Why? Because nobody is held responsible. It boils down to this, just like any asshole on the internet can post a blog hiding behind a computer screen, television can in essence be used the same way. Do we really get to talk to the people behind Fox News, History Channel, or MSNBC face to face, person to person and ask
