Video Games A video game is an electronic game that involves human interaction to generate visual feedback on a video device. The word video in video game means any type of display device that can produce two- or three-dimensional images. The electronic systems used to play video games are called platforms; examples of these are video game consoles and personal computers. Platforms can range from small handheld devices to large computers. Some video games can become popular and over a few year decrease in use. Video games have gone on to become an art form and an industry. Video games can also have many positive and negative effects on children, both mentally and physically. The input device primarily used to manipulate video games is called a game controller, and varies across platforms. For example, a controller might consist of a button and a joystick, while another controller may consist of two joy sticks and several buttons. Early personal computer games would require a keyboard for gameplay, or more commonly, required the user to by a separate joystick with at least one button. Modern computer games allow or require the user to use the mouse and keyboard simultaneously. A few of the most common game controllers are gamepads, mouses, keyboards, and joysticks. In the recent years, additional methods of input have emerged such as camera-based observation for video game consoles and touch-sensitive screens on
Would you believe the trial of a man that committed: 137 murders, 35 accounts of grand theft auto, ran over 42 pedestrians, totaled 35 cars, had 5 accounts of rape, and one account of manslaughter while driving intoxicated? That is a hard case for anyone to think it was rational. Better yet, what if the case description explained that all of the above crimes were committed in just two hours’ time? Anybody who thought rationally would think it was impossible in any real life situation, and they are exactly right. I am not talking about something in real life, but something maybe… even scarier, and that is the engaging nature of video games. Video games these days are very vivid and create engaging sequences of real life action that go above and beyond what anyone would have pictured even five years ago. The amount of work gone into video games is very impressive; creating detailed, rich, environments of: London’s downtown bay, the jungles of South America, or the beauty of Chicago’s china town. The graphics and scenery are only half of the impressive technology gone into video games. Gameplay itself is very unique and provides high action, quick decision making skills to survive in the unique three dimensional worlds. However, this quick, decisive, gameplay does not always promote the best learning environment. With gaming becoming such a real life experience, it has found its way into violent video games such as Call of
The increasing popularity of video games has raised some concern in society. The question as to whether or not this concern is justified has been raised a multitude of times. However, it is reasonable to believe that video games’ impact on society is not a negative one as there are many beneficial aspects to gaming, there is no solid proof of issue with video games, and they are enjoyable.
The video game Pong was introduced in 1972 and can be considered the beginning of the video gaming industry. Unlike the game Pong, the controversies surrounding video games today are not quite as simple. Certain media outlets often portray video games to be bad for individual’s health and behaviour. There are still some people in the world that believe video games are contributing to the decline of today’s generation. However, video games and their industry are much more beneficial than they are perceived to be. Today the video gaming industry employs thousands of people worldwide. The video gaming industry has grown to support other industries. In the 21st century, the video game industry produces
Video games have been around since the 1950’s. The first computer game was called Chess and there was no “video” to be displayed. The program was not even powerful enough to play the full game. The first computer game to use video was called XOX, or Noughts and Crosses, a form of digital tic-tac-toe. Since then, video games have rapidly grown in popularity and improved the play style and graphics. Some graphics in video games that are currently being released look realistic and the gameplay is smoother. Also, video games today are no longer confined to a desktop computer. There are now gaming laptops, consoles (Ex. GameCube, Xbox, PS3), handheld video games (Ex. Gameboy, 3DS, PSP), and you can now play games on your smart phone anywhere you want. The most popular ways to play video games are on computers or on consoles. PC gaming (computer gaming) and console gaming have been at a “gaming war” for yeas on which is better to play video games on. Both PC gaming and console gaming offer entertainment and a journey into a fantasy world, however, each offers a different way of gaming for the player. Depending on which system is chosen can determine the cost of the system and the upkeep, the way it is played and the special features each have to offer.
In recent years there have been plenty of cases of music, people, games, etc, being used as scapegoats so authorities can jump to conclusions about violent events and blame these as the main reason for such an event to take place. To give people an answer that may not even have any supporting evidence. Nowadays violence in video games is up to the level of killing people as the norm with many popular titles having this apart of the game. In many games that is the one of the main features that add together to create the game. Some game titles that include violence and killing are ‘Call of Duty,’ ‘Halo,’ ‘Grand Theft Auto,’ ‘Mass Effect,’ ‘Battlefield,’ ‘Counterstrike: Global Offensive,’ and ‘Doom.’ All of these games main storylines include the need to attack and kill to progress forward (Mainly with guns). But does this create a bad effect on people? Is this making people more likely to be violent? Even kill in real life? This is the particular ethical issue that violence in video games is having. The argument to prove if video games are really a cause of anger and if they cause a more aggressive and again violent person just by playing. In the world there are over 1.2 billion people that play video games, which is about 44% of the online population (comScore data cited by Spil Games). With majority of games including some form of violence, ranging from being very gentle lego fights to full on gore and guts in 18+
According to several studies, women are now making up a significant portion of the gaming demographic, but the industry hasn’t done much to make them feel welcome. During the last decade, the mainstream video game industry has seemed to operate under the same apparent assumptions: girls don’t play big action games, boys like the sexualization of girls in video games and won’t play as a female character unless she is heavily sexualized, and that girls play video games for the attention of boys. These assumptions are what allows the gaming industry to continue to focus on their male players, particularly young men, despite the fact that the number of women playing games today may someday soon rival the number of men.
Even since the first GameBoy has appeared on television and magazines, video gaming has flooded the game industry. The classic game of Pong where two players control a console which allows them to use a flat white line on the screen to play a game of tennis was the first arcade game to ever receive a universal acclaim. The first gaming console was introduced in 1967 by a German born television engineer who invented a gaming console that connects to the television, called the Brown Box.
Video games were originated first in laboratories by scientists. “This first idea came from their imaginations in late 1940s but unfortunately it did not reach the people as they were confined only to laboratories. This situation was observed till early 1970s until arcade games became popular. Then later on a new start-up named “Atari” unleashed a new
A video game is “an electronic game in which players control images on a television or computer screen” (Merriam-Webster). Video games have been entertaining and challenging gamers since the Game Boy to modern console games. Despite the simplicity of the definition of video games, a video game, especially ones containing violence can have a large effect on the gamer. Because of the realism and advancements in the video game industry, video games can influence the player, and can make the gamer more aggressive, even if the game is not a violent video game. Even though video games have grown in popularity over the past decade, some have not been too popular with parents, for the reason that they are too violent. Violent video games affect

For over 50 years, video games have been around the entertain men and women of many different ages. Many of the original gaming consoles have changed or evolved over the years. From first person shooters or 3D adventure roll-playing games, it has changed over the decades through their consoles. In October of 1958, a man by the name of William Higinbotham, created the first video game system, so it has been told. It was a simple game of tennis, like the 1970s game of Pong. Nintendo Co. Ltd., ranked by IGN (Imagine Games Network) as the best video game developer of all time created the first Pokémon game in 1996. Ever since that day, Pokémon has grown to be one of the biggest video game franchises in the world, selling over 260 million copies and next to only the Mario and Super Mario franchises. Personally speaking, Pokémon has been a monumental part of my childhood, and I keep up-to-date with it even today. Pokémon video games are played on an international level and catching Pokémon, which is a huge part of the games, is considered a worldwide sport for gamers. But catching Pokémon is not as easy as it sounds; in fact success in this “sport” requires a vast knowledge and understanding of Pokémon. And of course, the catching of Pokémon would not be complete without the use of mathematics and calculations. My rationale is to determine how the catch rate works and what in-game factors affect the catch rate.
