If a young child makes a small snowball and lets it go down a hill, it rolls down and begins stick to other pieces. The snowball grows and shapes into something wonderful. The originally small, little ball becomes so much more than the child ever intended or can ever imagine. The most beautiful things grow this way, from a little seed into something great. This is life. All the small things can become something great and wonderful and so much more than we could possibly hope for. How can this beauty be described in something greater than love itself? My parents are a lovely, younger couple, who have made it through thick and thin just to find their way back to their undying charm. How can such people be? How could a match this perfect ever meet? Through the small things, the distasteful pieces in life we hope nothing will come from and that we can forget. My mother still replays this story to me as if it happened yesterday. One day, she had gotten into a fight with her mom. What else was she to do but leave? So, she did, and since she wouldn’t be eating with her family for obvious reasons, she went out for a pizza. She pulls up to the dirty curb of Dominoes and goes inside. She orders her food and thinks that’s the end of her trip. …show more content…
Until I finally give up and decide to watch the documentary Vegucated. Okay, I can dig it. I was already a vegetarian, but I had absolutely no intent to go vegan. How could someone ever give up the delicious ooey gooeyness of cheese? Cheese on anything was my favorite food. As I watch, I think ‘wow, these people are a unhinged’. I watch as bird after beautiful bird is crowded, seared, injured, and murdered. I watch as beautiful young cows moo for their freedom, that will never come. Okay, maybe they’re not as crazy as I thought. And before I know it, I am one of them! I only ever watched the video because I was incredibly bored and wanted to avoid doing anything productive, then it completely changed my life.
The Frontline film Separate and Unequal discussed about creating a new school system; however, there are opposition by others who wants to maintain the current school system. If we look at the perspectives of the two groups, it is understandable in why there is support and opposition from the people of the city. The supporters of the new system wants a system that can provide better opportunities for their children without any violence. As the film claimed “the school was not teaching and were only babysitting the children”, which was likely a reason why there was a need for a new school system. With the chaotic and uncontrollable situation in the current system, many supporters have push forward the idea of a new system in a new city. From
In his directorial debut, Jordan Peele steers away from his comedic reputation to make the suspenseful thriller that is Get Out. The film is very intriguing and keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat throughout from start to finish as you follow Chris Washington, a young african american man, who travels with his white girlfriend to her family’s house when he uncovers a dark secret. For the typical fan of horror/thriller, it's a must see.
That mocumentary Razzle Dazzle directed by Darren Ashward and the documentary First Position directed by Bess Kargmam effectively explores the world of dance in numerous different ways. The characterization throughout each film is tremendously different as they focus on different personalities and physiognomies. Though the film techniques on both Razzle Dazzle and first position both share similar camera angles and features throughout the films. Both the documentary and mocumentary paints a dazzling picture of the struggles and triumphs of dancers who have dreams. The theme of competiveness runs throughout Fist Position and Razzle Dazzle in different ways.
The first discussion video and Barry Schwartz believe if you limit choices, people will tend to make a better decision while being happy with the choices they have made. However, Malcom Gladwell has an opposite view, since he believes if you give people choices and varieties to choose from, they will select the reasonable choices based on their standard that will be beneficial to them.
In his 2017 horror film Get Out, Jordan Peele not only makes his director debut, but delivers a particularly insightful view into the state of racial affairs in modern America. The stories narrative follows an African American man named Chris, who goes to visit his white girlfriend's parents at their rural home only to uncover a horrifying plot in which the girlfriend and her parents are in fact racist and have been abducting black people and using their bodies in medical experiments involving the transfer of consciousness. On a surface level, the plot of the film has the ability to come across as quite simplistic in scope, an obvious labeling of privileged American whites as racist; however, a deeper analysis reveals careful consideration to
The Stories We Tell is a documentary film directed by Sarah Polley. The film follows the story of her family up to the discovery of Sarah’s true parentage from an affair that her mother had in Montreal. The film uses contrastive organizing to present various viewpoints on the life of Sarah’s mother, Diane, through interviews. One interesting aspect of this film is that it tells the story outside of the directors perspective but it is ultimately centered on the directors life. Sarah is interviewing the friends and family members of her mother but she never actually answers any questions herself or describes her accounts of her childhood or the discovery of her biological father. She remains investigative and unsentimental. The Stories We Tell
Film- Precious Knowledge Precious Knowledge is a documentary that takes place in Tucson, Arizona and focuses on how the Unified School district wants to completely ban the Mexican American Studies Program. In the film there were many scenes with examples of rhetorical appeal. I believe that the way the film was set up since the beginning had an impactful and direct emotional appeal on the audience. For instance, in the first scenes of the film we have the opportunity to get to know the main characters in a more intimate level.
I had stumbled on a film titled Vegucated about 6 months ago. It was much like the very well known documentary Food Inc except it focused more on uncovering what really goes on inside a slaughterhouse and dairy farms. The reason I bring up these movies is because they steered me onto a new lifestyle, and that was going vegan. It was hard at first for many reasons. One being, I enjoyed eating dairy products, and the other being how would I get protein from non-animal products. In the beginning there were a few times I cheated and had to have some meat
Veldhuis, Konijn & Seidell states “many models in mass media are artificially shaped into thin, idealized standards using computer software. Such thin-ideal exposure is likely to result in body dissatisfaction, objectified body consciousness, and body comparison with media models, especially in adolescent girls with lower self-esteem (Veldhuis et, al. 2014 p.157).” In addition, Veldhuis, Konijn, and Seidell believes that adolescent girls should receive information about the thin body ideal and how the photographer takes photos of the models and edited the pictures to make them appear thinner than normal. (Veldhuis et, al.

1 in 6 Americans do not have enough to eat. Many face poverty and are “food insecurity”. Many are concerned about where their next meal is coming from and how they’re going to get it. One documentary film, duly named “A Place at the Table,” examines hunger in the United States by highlighting the lives of three different people across the country. The three lives focused on in the film are all very different.
Like the majority of teenagers today, I was just browsing YouTube when I stumbled upon a video that has since changed my life. “Earthlings.” The documentary revealed how millions of animals are mercilessly slaughtered in factory farms. Just watching such brutality- void of any type of humanity- was immobilizing. Somehow I made it to the end and came across copious recommended videos, including “Forks Over Knives” and “Cowspiracy.” While they weren’t as graphic as the first, they were definitely informative. After watching these documentaries, I decided to go vegan. This decision wasn’t made lightly, and it wasn’t just for myself. Veganism has long been disputed over, but animal rights activists, environmentalists,
Part 1 - In American author's 2009 book, The Help, the primary thesis is the relationship between Black maids and white households in Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960s. The story is really told from three perspectives, Aibileen and Minny are Black women, both maids, and Skeeter is the nickname of Eugenia Phelan, daughter of a prominent White family. Skeeter has just finished school and hopes to become a writer. In general, the relationship between the Black maids and the White employers is six sided: On one side we have the White employers who have three views: 1) Their personal and private beliefs that can range from extreme scorn and bias to kindness regarding race; 2) Their public persona that must have the "proper" attitude about Blacks and "the help," and 3) Their employer attitude, which is condescending and parental. The Black view also has three segments: 1) Their personal and private beliefs that usually range from understanding not all Whites are the same and an extreme love and empathy for the White children for whom they care; 2) The public persona that is deferential, polite, and stoic to their White bosses; and 3) Their attitude and view among the Black community, which usually separates the "poor and ignorant but rich" White souls from the Black view of family and common sense. All in all, the relationship is contentious, phony, and based on economic advantage.
All of the films we viewed for this unit were very eye opening. One my favorite of the bunch was definitely Into the Wild. Chris’s journey to find absolute freedom by escaping civilization and becoming more in tune with the wild or nature was very intriguing. One point of the film that really stuck out to me was his decision to burn all of his money. He say that money make us more cautious. I believe that money does make us more cautious in everyday life. We as a society rely way too much on material things and are always trying to have bigger and better things. With wanting more we have to rely on money because with out it we cant reach our goals. I agree with Alex because I feel money does make us more cautious in everyday life. We need if to succeed and to move forward in our society. When Alex paraphrase Thoreau “ Rather than Love and fairness, give me truth”. I feel like Alex want to
‘The Matrix’ is a film about a simulated reality in which humans are programmed to a neural interactive simulation. The film is very similar to the bible due to the way that it has used symbolism to present situations and scenes. The Gospel of John and some scriptures from the bible were taken to compare to the film to show similarity and relevance. There are themes in which the Bible and the Matrix have in common and these are ; evil is living in the ignorance of truth, resurrection and the truth. The first theme that will be discussed in ‘evil is living in the ignorance of truth’ and this shows similarity to the Genesis 3 story when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit. The second theme is the truth and this shows relation to the gospel of
