The United States already had an overpopulation problem. Now that the population is growing even more we have more cities and states being overpopulated. According to Support U.S. Population Stabilization (SUSPS), if our population trend continues, we will be able to add enough population to create another New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Francisco, Indianapolis, San Jose, Memphis, Washington D.C., Jacksonville, Milwaukee, Boston, Columbus, New Orleans, Cleveland, Denver, Seattle, and El Paso - plus the next 75 largest cities in the U.S. - by 2020. According to Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), low-ranking countries have high population growth and high ranking countries have lower population
Government is defined by Oxford Dictionaries to be “The system by which a state or community is governed”.
Let’s first discuss what is considered to be overpopulated? Overpopulation is “The condition of having a population so dense as to cause environmental deterioration, an impaired quality of life, or a population crash” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary.com, 2011). The growing rate of population in America is becoming exceeding extreme and dangerous. “The rate of
The exponential population growth of the human species has created a mass debate for centuries. A great speculation exists that involves the sustainability of the human species, along with other species, into the distant future. Over the years, as the numbers steadily rise the governments of several countries limited the number of children per household in order to limit the exponential growth of the human race. Some scientists believe that the world will inevitably make the novel “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley, a living reality. Which concerns some readers because if the government dictates how the population increases, it will also dictate all other actions as well, stripping citizens of their individuality.
The primary reason for over-population in the US is due to illegal immigration. This is a very serious issue discussed almost every day with the government, on the news, and in the newspapers. It’s hard to say what the actual number of unauthorized immigrants are since they reside in the country under cover or illegally. Once here, they seek out employment, mainly as day laborers. Once the head of household has migrated and has an income, the rest of the family members follows. The wife’s later give birth to a baby who becomes a legal citizen. This is then causing an influx in the school systems and classrooms, therefore, depriving children of the right to education. The overcrowding in classrooms is contributing to
The notation of what is a nation has changed greatly over time in Latin America. Two groups that exemplifies that are the asian and indigenous population of Latin America. Both groups were categorized differently throughout time and from each other. Countries in Latin America brought the asian population as labor. This resulted in the asian workers being classified as solely foreign labor not a part of the nation. Later the asian population will be seen more as an outside group than true members of the country causing great tension between them and the “natives”. Most recently, the population has been more accepted due to their “mother country” becoming a world power. Similarly, the indigenous population notation of what a nation is has
The United States is the third most populated country in the world. This country holds about 4.5% of the world’s population. The U.S. population is currently estimated to have 308.7 million persons. This number is more than double of the population from 1950. Besides the fact of the population has doubled its size, the population has also become qualitatively different from the one from 1950. As noted by the Population Reference Bureau, “The U.S. is getting bigger, older, and more diverse.” The growth of the population is the result of the trends over time in the relationship of increased births, decreased deaths, and increased net immigration.
Back in the year 2014 the percentage of immigrants living in the U.S. was 12.9 percent and this number has been doing nothing but increasing. As a result of that it means that the population is increasing as well. An increase in population means an increase in the government spending, which is hurtful to the economy. In order to provide citizens with social services and benefits it cost a lot of money. In fact according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities last year the government had a 485 billion dollar deficit most of which they got from borrowing after they had spent 3.5 trillion dollars. Out of the 485 billion dollars 11 percent went to Safety Net Programs, 18 percent went to Defense and International Security Assistance, 24 percent
Year after year the substantial numbers of illegal immigrants coming to this country are increasing and causing tensions on population numbers all throughout the United States of America. Across the country immigration is account for majorities of several state 's population growth due to many factors but in the state of California especially, “when all factors are weighed, immigration accounted for an incredible 96 percent of California 's population growth from 1990 to 1997. Largely because of immigration, the U.S. Census Bureau says the state will have nearly 54 million people by 2025.” (Motavalli, 4). Ranking in the top ten in total population throughout the country, the drastically increasing issue of overpopulation in California is
In the article Overpopulation Is Still the Problem, Alon Tal (2013) claims that overpopulation remains the number one problem facing the world today and discusses various problems and possible solutions. Tal unveils the falsely assuring news stories refuting overpopulation as a problem. He particularly dissects Ellis Erle’s assertions, in the New York Times, concerning China’s seemingly magical works of technology. Erle comes to the conclusion that China’s amazing technology has and will always be able to keep them out of any problems regarding overpopulation. Of course Tal is able to rhythmically rebut Erle’s claims by explaining that, “Anyone with a teaspoon of historic sensibilities about the country 's environmental history might want to mention its long litany of famines which occurred precisely because carrying capacities were consistently outstripped by a growing population”. Tal then goes on to explain other problems linked directly to overpopulation in China like the food crisis from 1958-1961 which led to the starvation of over 20 million people. He also discusses the Chinese one-child policy describing it as “tough medicine” although the application of the policy was flawed he depicts how it has prevented the next round of famines. Tal ties the China population problems into the rest of the article which is mainly about how quickly the world is growing and what we need to do about it. He presents distressing facts like 1 in 8 people in the world suffer from
Overpopulation is an issue that many persons fail to bring attention, but don’t know the underlying effects that it can have on the United States itself. The hardships of overpopulation, affects the economy, the available of resources, and also the success of the future generations to come. Without much thought, someone may have children not knowing that it can affect the livelihood of the future generations who plan to land that job or that position they were aspiring to get. There are those individuals that continue having children, knowing that they are not financially capable of supporting another innocent child. In result this negatively affects the quality of living. If there are more births, it foreshadows that there are more jobs to be created, which causes employment hard to acquire, nevertheless, causing the economy to make a turn for the
Global population; it’s what has been mystifying and engaging our human geographers for centuries. In fact, the various stages of the demographic transition have shown what the population is acting as now, and how it will change in the future. Starting right here in the United States, we are having a very successful time maintaining a small growth population. Our 1.83 child per woman ratio is slightly below the zero growth 2.03, but our population continues to grow because of our governmental decision to approve immigration into the country. Because of this vital decision, it allows our population to continually grow. Now, back to the demographic transition stages. The United States is currently in Stage 4 along with many other Developed European
Overpopulation is not a problem that America is facing alone. Our entire planet is becoming vastly overpopulated. As a country we need to think about how this will affect our county in the years to come. According to www.census.gov, we admitted over 900,000 legal immigrants and an estimated 300,00 illegal immigrants last year alone. If we do not enforce stricter control of our boarders and enforce a tighter screening process then by the year 2050, our estimated population will be 519 million people. That is 95% greater than today’s population. This devastating number can be easily controlled by enforcing a tighter screening process and putting an immigration cap into place.
There are many factors contributing in the population explosion in India, and the increased population has led to many others consequences. Anyhow, steps are taken by the government of India to control this predicament.
A bigger population comes with a higher demand. If you haven’t noticed, hundreds of houses and recreations are being built all over the country to sufficiently satisfy the growing population. The increase of buildings, roads, and other man-made constructions results in the destruction of natural habitats that belong to living organisms of our ecosystem that can soon become endanger and eventually die out of extinction. If this continues, adequately sized natural environments will no longer be accessible and those growing up in the future of the country will not be able to appreciate these natural resources and beauty that we strongly rely on ("World Population Awareness."). The U.S has quickly became a high consuming nation and at this rate, these raw materials and natural resources we heavily rely on to satisfy these wants and essentials will soon be scarce. Of course there is also the risk and damaging of air quality even more
Immigration is projected to be the most significant contributor to this increase in population. Birth rates are projected to remain stable and death rates are projected to increase slightly. These statistical changes in population were constructed on the basis of the current immigration flows and policies. Certain states in the U.S. have experienced spikes in population from immigration that are greater than some peripheral countries. This massive growth in population will have adverse effects such as scarcity of resources, heavy traffic, overcrowded educational infrastructures, increased crime rates and increased environmental pollution. The Pew Research Center stipulates that official projections have tended to underestimate real population growth through projections. According to the American Immigration Council, The U.S. currently has a worldwide cap of 675,000 immigrants annually; the population growth projections and adverse effects discussed thus far were constructed in consideration of the existing limit on immigration. There have been years in which this cap was widened; The Council of Foreign Relations claim that “The United States granted more than one million individuals legal permanent residency in 2015, nearly two-thirds of whom were admitted based on family reunification” (Renwick & Lee, 2017).
