According to the US census bureau, a birth is currently happening at a rate of 12 seconds. With the increase in population growth, this is subject to many economic issues as well as the limited amount of the Earth’s resources. This is why China adopted the one-child policy which prevents any one couple from having any children in the excess of one. If someone in China decides that they want to have another child, in addition to one it will be aborted. If the United States doesn’t take preventative action and educate themselves on the effects of having unplanned children, the government shall take on the control of implementing laws against have numerous amount of children. This contributes to the ongoing issue of overpopulation. If humans are …show more content…

To prevent the right of freedom from being taken away, we must result to better habits that will save lives and the state of humanity. Everyone should take in account of the adverse effects and the things we may lose if the baby-having trend continues. It’s more than right of freedom being taken away, but the things we use to function as a society. It should be an initiative taken by the government to educate those who are not aware the effects of people excessively having children. In good essence government control may be the end result to alleviate the issues that may arrive if the continuing of planned or unplanned births remains
Real life examples of overpopulation are China, Brazil, and India in specific Guangzhou, China, Tianjin, China, Beijing, China, São Paulo, Brazil, and Mumbai, India which all have populations over 11 million. Practices across the world to prevent and educate on overpopulation include Offering sexual education for all students to prevent over reproduction, making contraceptives more widespread and easily obtainable, and creating more awareness for the dangers of overpopulation, these practices aren't always available especially in developing countries such as India, South America, and China. One popular policy in China is the One Child Policy where the Chinese government regulates the number of children parents can have with certain policies that give incentives to having only one child. Another example of over population is Chancellor High School which could benefit from its own one child policy. The tactics used in the movie are a little more harsh and inhumane than their real life counterparts. Early we discussed how we could easily reach a population size close that of the movie, there's no underlying reason preventing the creation of more crude and harmful methods to prevent or contain overpopulation in the
The world’s most populated country, occupying a population approaching one and a half billion and contributing to approximately twenty percent of the worldwide population. A country named the People's Republic of China. During the late 1970’s, the overgrowing population of China was reaching one billion, causing problems for the society and government. Chinese citizens were living in extreme poverty and starvation. As a means to rectify these issues, the Chinese government introduced the One Child Policy. This regulation permits couples to have one, and only one child in order to diminish the extremely populated country. The One Child Policy is incredibly controversial, in comparison to many government law and regulation affecting moral and
Using propaganda to help the people of China to be aware of family planning has significantly help decrease China’s population. According to an article written by Davis Kingsley called “The Political Impact of New Population Trends”, by using propaganda China has help pushed its people to accept and embrace the One-Child Policy even if they have to resort to stretching the truth (pg. 7). By using drastic measures to help decrease population growth China has implanted deception to its people. According to Kingsley, the most shocking information that China’s health officials have given its people as to why postponing marriage is a good decision. Kingsley discover that China’s health officials state that intercourse before the age of mid-to late-twenties is detrimental to the development of the body (pg. 9). Though the use of propaganda to implement the One-Child Policy is significantly decreasing China’s population growth, the use of deception in China’s propaganda message is an unethical way for the government to play with its people ignorance and faith in the political system.
In October 12, 1999, the world's population has reached to 6 billion people. about only 12 years later (October 31, 2011) the world has gone up to 7 billion. Many people on the planet are worried about the world population going too high. They fear that too many people would result in starvation and quick depletion of resources. Some people believe that we should have some type of law that would limit the number of children we can have in each family. Something similar has come true in China about 30 years ago. In September 25, 1980, China's One-Child Policy has been created. This policy keeps parents from having more than one baby with the exception of twins, triplets, quadruplets, and so on. Parents may also have
The primary reason for over-population in the US is due to illegal immigration. This is a very serious issue discussed almost every day with the government, on the news, and in the newspapers. It’s hard to say what the actual number of unauthorized immigrants are since they reside in the country under cover or illegally. Once here, they seek out employment, mainly as day laborers. Once the head of household has migrated and has an income, the rest of the family members follows. The wife’s later give birth to a baby who becomes a legal citizen. This is then causing an influx in the school systems and classrooms, therefore, depriving children of the right to education. The overcrowding in classrooms is contributing to
Since its implementation, the One Child Policy has dominated fertility rates as well as alleviating the increase in global population. China’s policy proved to be an idealistic approach at preventing population increase by restricting the reproductive rights
In 1948, China banned birth control and contraceptives because it wanted a larger population. In1930s-1960s, China’s population was growing faster than the food supply, which reached a population of more than 800 million in 1970s. In 1973, China started to promote birth control with the slogan, “Late, Long, Few” and introduced the one-child policy six years later. Forced abortion was the punishment to punish the ones who did not obey the policy and often, families chose to pay the local officials to “set them (the second child) free”. However, one-child policy is very
There are a lot of societal issues in relation to the One-Child Policy. Some cases include kidnapping of women and children and even the abortion of unborn female fetuses. But without these measures being taken, researchers say that by 2020, the consequences would be a shortage of 30 million women. Therefore, the Chinese government officials insist that these measures are necessary to the country.
Over population has been a global issue for decades. Many countries have attempted to battle this issue, but none as intensely as China. One Child Policy is a population control policy implemented by the People’s Republic of China .The One Child Policy is seen as being one of the most significant and talked about social policies ever implemented in the world and most importantly China. Although the One Child Policy seems like an extremely harsh and a controversial method, China’s One Child Policy has been proven to have a great effect on the lives of nearly a quarter of the world’s population for a quarter of a century (Hesketh). The purpose of the One Child Policy was to give China a solution to help the economy grow quickly and to gain a
Our world has grown and evolved for millions of years. In the past, there was a time when offspring was needed to continue our legacy, but with many factors involved that changed. The chaos caused by the government: poverty, injustice, death, illness, a decrease of necessary resources, and a reduced mortality rate, which came with the improvement of medical facilities are only some of the factors that created change from the past to the present. The factor that had the most impact on today's society is immigration. People from many different countries came to one single country, this being our home, America. We are in the youngest country of all, and our image as a country portrays a place where opportunities are given to every family and individual
From the beginning of time, mankind has been faced with problem of the not being able to have many children. In the bible times many people think that people should be able to have many children. In China many people had a problem about how only being able to have only one child. Many believe from the beginning that the one-child policy would never work. The one-child policy has has been very effective throughout time. The practice of one-child policy in China has positive impact because it causes more job opportunities, results in less environmental problems, and leads to better health.
The issue of overpopulation severely affects China’s society, and the need for population control is needed to overcome economic problems. The number of Chinese living in poverty are shocking. The causes of poverty are numerous, but its major reason is overpopulation. Over the decades, demographic trends in poor areas reveal higher fertility, and higher growth. Poor areas have higher rates of early marriage, early childbirth, and multiple children. These areas also have higher rates of disabilities and disease and lower levels of education which make people living in poor areas in disadvantage by knowledge about contraception. China has plenty of poor areas that need a better educated population, leadership is essential in China which is another reason to support controlled population growth by enforcing China’s one-child
The one child policy in the Peoples Republic of China has recently been lifted to allowed families to freely have two children rather than one. This policy, introduced to China in the late 1970’s, was due to a massive baby boom which had taken place in the 1960’s. In the early to late 1950’s the Chinese government had encouraged its citizens to produce children at a rapid rate in the hope of building a larger work force (Managing Population Change Case Study: China). In order to counteract this boom, the 1970’s Chinese government implemented the one child law in the hopes of slowing the birth rates of the rapidly growing population of China. Other positive effects of this law would not only be a lowered population in an extremely overpopulated populated country, but it would also allow more families access to free child care, health care, and education. Although this law sounds fantastic and was placed with a positive out come in mind, the exact opposite effect took place.
In the past twenty years, total fertility dropped by more than half in China (Cunningham, 2013). The Chinese regulations in place focus more on birth control rather then new social equality. This strategy depends on strongly enforced policies set by the government, determining how many children a Chinese family can produce. Chinese law provides a compulsory limit on reproduction that is punishable by law if an individual exceeds the limits set. The strategy of strict laws with penalization is also combined with an economic incentive for reducing births.
Steven Sinding is the retired director general of the International Planned Parenthood Federation. These authors discuss how population growth and birth rates are too high which can cause poverty, unemployment, overcrowded schools, and political violence. One solution to the overpopulation problem is the implementation of voluntary family planning programs. They respond to critics of family planning programs. They argue that family planning is beneficial and necessary. This source was found by searching “overpopulation” on the JSTOR search engine.
