There are two different “stances” a person can take when riding a skateboard. The nose of the board is the front and will be thicker and longer than seen in the tail. The tail of the board is considered the back and is thinner and shorter than the nose. If a skater rides with their right foot forward (near the nose) this is called a “goofie” stance, while riding with the left foot forward is called a “regular” stance. The normative belief then is for the skater to use their back foot to accelerate them forwards by pushing of the ground. The first step to conquering the board is to get over come your fear of riding. This has to be one of the most important steps because if you don’t get over your fear you will most definitely fall on your butt or even worst your... face! Now do you really want to fall on your face or butt? Yea that what I thought. But the most easy way to conquer your fear is to get on a board on a flat street and have a friend push you down the street. Once you are comfortable with the board the next step would be to find your balance. The most simple way of doing this is... just standing on a board on a flat street/drive way and just stand on the board in till you have found and achieve your balance on the board.
