The introductory lines of the poem,
‘Tyger Tyger, burning bright 
In the forests of the night’, introduce the character on which the poem is focused; the Tiger. The use of repetition (‘Tyger Tyger’) creates a mysteriousness surrounding the Tiger by adding a chant-like atmosphere. ‘Burning bright’ could be seen to imply the fire-like orange fur of the Tiger, referring to its appearance, while possibly implying the inner fiery energy/ power of the Tiger. The setting of the Tiger, ‘in the forest of the night’, intensifies its power and mysteriousness by having the fire-like burning while still being elusive. The symmetry of the Tiger refers to the one of the characteristics of divine beings, along with being a seen as an artistic form of beauty. …show more content…

This introduces the other character of the poem; The Creator of the Tiger. It also presents the central question: what immortal Creator could capture the magnificent form of the Tiger? The ‘immortal hand or eye’ symbolizes creation and sight evoking relations a creative God. Framing signifies capturing the power of the Tiger and containing it in its form, or can mean defining boundaries and implying limitations. The mysteriousness and power is enhanced by the description “fearful symmetry”. The word “fearful” enhances the power and mysteriousness of the Tiger which in turn implies the same about the Creator.
“And what shoulder, & what art. 
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?”’
 This stanza carries on the question concerning the Creator and what/who it might be, supported by the word “and” linking it with the last stanza. The “shoulder” implies the bodily strength needed to produce a beast like the Tiger and that that is what the Creator contains. Along with the Creator’s strength and power, skill is brought forth with the mentioning of the word “art”.
“Tyger Tyger, burning bright 
In the forests of the night, 
What immortal hand or eye 
Dare frame thy fearful
