In the book Tuck Everlasting by: Natalie Babbitt the characters Winnie and The Stranger consume the same information, but use it very differently. Winnie uses the information by keeping it a secret because she understands why it needs to be protected. Some quotes to support this are “She loved them. They belonged to her.” (43) “That feeling- it tied her to them [...] but there were new threads now, tugging and insistent, which tied her just as firmly to the Tucks (as to her family)” (50) These quotes show that Winnie is friends with the Tucks and wouldn’t betray them because of her “ties” to them, ties of trust and loyalty. Winnie's firm bond with the Tucks assists her to decide to keep the Tuck’s secret. The stranger uses the information
Doing the right thing isn’t always black and white. Sometimes both options have advantages and disadvantages. Sacrifices must be made on your end in order to improve the conditions of others. Charlie could have told the police about Laura Wishart’s death but he knows it will get jasper arrested. “‘’Why didn’t you say anything to me? That really hurts, Charlie.’ I hold out my hands. ‘I couldn’t. I wanted to, I really did. But I made a promise to Jasper…’” (270). Charlie wanted to tell Eliza or his parents or the police or anyone at all. He could barely bare to carry the truth of what had happened, and it weighed him down. However, he still found the courage to keep the secret
In general, people should start learning facts and gaining true information before they try to put puzzle pieces together to insure that feelings will be spared. If Elinor and Marianne had legitimate information, they would have been spared the embarrassment of knowing about their interest
Every character has their own dark past which they to keep hidden. But in the novel Yolen shows the readers it is always better to come out of the wardrobe then to stay hidden and not be found. Becca’s editor Stan says, “I
“Faith includes noticing the mess, the emptiness and discomfort, and letting it be there until some light returns” (Anne Lamott Quotes). Unbroken, book by Laura Hillenbrand, shows the truthful of this quote. The novel is about Olympic runner and hero of the war Louie Zamperini. He survived a lot of inhuman and cruel harassments during WWII, simply believing and hoping for better times and victory of his country. By Louie’s example, author shows how faith can help to survive even in the most hopeless, wild, terrible, difficult and hard situations that can face people during their lives.
Many people has secrets but only some secrets are worth keeping. In the novel Tuck Everlasting, written by Natalie Babbitt Winnie Foster meets a family called the Tucks, she soon finds out they have a very important secret and they are depending on her to keep it. As a result of Winnie meeting the Tucks she learns that there are some secrets that no one should know about.
During the rise of women’s rights movement in the time period of 1940 to 1975 they have been discriminated by inequalities of gender roles. Although women were proving to society that they work just as hard as men, they still were not treated as equal. In World War 1 and 2 a majority of men were gone due to the war so women took over but were still rated as less than a man. Along with this the the nineteenth amendment came to place giving women the right to vote. This was their time to accomplish more things that they wanted which is to be able to decide and do things and not be left out based on their sex.
Throughout The Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford, I sympathized with Keiko and Henry the most. Although both are minority races, they are discriminated against differently. Keiko identifies as 'American', but that does not seem to matter as her family and the rest of the citizens of Japanese descent are whisked into armed, prison-like camps by U.S. officials. I can relate to her since I have been discriminated against because of my ethnicity. It seems easy for some to make stereotypes about other races, especially in a time where everyone is looking for somewhere to place the blame. For example, the discrimination is evident when Keiko and Henry try to buy a record- Keiko is not even acknowledged because she is Japanese.
Quote 6: “He felt his consciousness slipping, his mind losing adhesion, until all he knew was a single thought: He cannot break me.” (296)
Secrets are most of the time used to hide information from someone that could be detrimental to someone. Sometimes it is to cause emotional harm and ridicule. Then there are secrets that are used for pure joy and excitement. We all have many secrets whether it is to surprise someone or gossip that has been given through gossip or slander. The essay “In the Early Morning Rain” by Jennifer Boylan, she has had a secret that led her to have life-changing thoughts that ultimately led her to fully accept who she was. If it was not for her accepting who she was as a transgender female and not allowing her feelings to overpower her, this essay would probably not exist. If I was to rewrite her essay, I would write about how to deal with secrets that someone may have. In my writing my main points would include but is not limited to, how to combat a secret, seeking help from someone that can be trusted and could help with that secret, and finally, embrace the feeling of being free from that secret.

The one trait of personality that Teddy and Sibyl share is the kindness. The kindness is evidence in both, Sibyl’s treatment of Seymour and Teddy’s behavior. When Teddy 's sister tells the young boy that he “is the stupidest person [she] ever met” (176), Teddy kindly defends and reassures the young boy. In his journal it is discovered that all Teddy writes about are small kind acts that he wishes to do for other people: he wants to find and wear his father’s dog tags because he thinks it will “please him;” he wants to write a condolence letter to someone who is ill, and he wishes to be “nicer to [the] librarian” (180-1).
Hoff uses the characters of Winnie the Pooh to show how things can be spoiled and lost but he also used
One of the biggest differences between the movie and the book was the age of Winnie. In the book she was a young girl of ten and in the movie she was fifteen years old. This most likely was a choice of the movie makers because it decreased the age gap between Winnie and Jesse and allowed for a romantic element, which the movie expanded into a large part of the story. The love scenes did not push the movie into an inappropriate realm, but adults should be cautioned that kissing and cuddling all night are portrayed and possibly should be discussed when viewing with pre-teens. Babbitt describes Winnie as, essentially, having a crush on Jesse, but it was a very innocent relationship. Jesse, too, was taken by Winnie and encouraged her to drink the water when she was seventeen and they could spend an eternity together. The book explains that Jesse gives Winnie a bottle of the water, giving a very physical symbol of the monumental choice that she must make. The movie, inexcusably, omits this. At the conclusion of the book, Mae and Tuck, not Jesse as portrayed in the movie, return to Tree Gap after many years, discover the gravestone of Winnie, realize that she never partook of the water and exclaim, “Poor Jesse”.
Albert Camus creates a series of characters in The Stranger whose personality traits and motivations mirror those that are overlooked by the average man. Camus develops various characters and scenarios that are considered rude and unpleasant, but because it has become common, society accepts it as norms. Camus incorporates atrocious personality traits of the characters, variety, consistency, and everyone’s fate through the creation of the characters.
The short story “Where is Here” by Joyce Carol Oats introduces us to a very complex character, labeled the stranger. The author uses the method of indirect characterization, which results in the reader making their own assumptions of the character. Indirect characterization includes some of the following: stranger’s appearance, speech, actions, private thoughts, as well as the reactions of others. The previously stated categories are the things we will analyze and draw conclusions from.
